Direct Selection tool does not work on text anchors....
For some reason I can no longer select text by anchor using the direct selection tool. If I use the Regular selection tool it acts as it did before the update but the direct selection tool does not.
We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 23.0.2
Please refer to our knowledge base FAQ – https://illustrator.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1844590 if you face difficulty in update.
Or get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html

This bug seems to exist in 26.2.
Tested on Windows 10:1. Turn on 'Type Object Selection by Path Only' in preferences
2. Create a Point Type object
3. With the direct selection tool, try to drag the type object by its anchor point. -

Really Adobe? This is not fixed on version 25.2.1.
Try clicking and dragging on centered text with the hollow arrow.

This is still an issue. It's happening to me, which is why I came here in the first place. September 2020.

Anna, I haven't had this issue for quite some time. An update last year fixed it for me.

HI, I still have this problem with the latest Illustrator. I have version 24.2. Does anybody still have this problem?

Hi Abby.
Thanks for your message. Those are good tips.
The original issue (being unable to select text with the direct select tool) seems to be resolved with the latest update 23.0.4. Is anyone else still running into this problem?

I just found it! cmd + H to show anchors for direct selection tool and shift + cmd + B to show bounding box for the selection tool.

Has the selection bug been fixed or at least addressed yet as I'm running version 23.0.3 annd the problem persists slowing me down considerably. How do I revert to v23.1!!!!!

I have the same problem and it's driving me nuts!! I cannot select text with either selection tool and it's making me waste my time in workarounds.

Bug does not appear to be fixed. Suddenly, I cannot select text with either selection - not at all. I just installed updated CC two days ago. Text selection worked fine for two days, then tonight - no selection available, even after quitting and reopening, and restarting machine. Help!

Hi Judy.
On my system, the direct select tool works on everything except non-selected text anchors. I.e. if I click on the anchor and drag, it appears to move but the position does not change when the mouse button is released. However I see normal behavior if I select the text first, and then attempt to drag the object.
Are you seeing issues outside of this behavior?

This is still a problem! I literally can't click on anything with the direct select tool. This is a basic foundational tool!

This bug is NOT fixed. The direct select tool is still unable to move/drag text when the user clicks on a non-selected text anchor point.

This is unacceptable. I can’t do my job. The selection tools are so basic that they should not have glitches. I should not have to spend hours of my work-day to search sites for "where is my direct selection tool". And now I find this thread ... and find that I must take another hour out of my work-day to install your "pre-release" while wondering what bugs it will have. Time and money wasted. Maybe Adobe can email my client and explain why I’m more than a half day late in returning proofs that should have taken 10 minutes …

Happy it’s fixed. But 3 months to fix an issues with one of the main ways I interact with an app is too much for £50 a month. Goodby subscription. I’m moving elsewhere. Any one had good experiences with Affinity?

Well that was a long wait (or it at least seemed that way), but it's great to have this fixed! I see that it's not working for some, but it's working for me.
