Save now takes longer in updated 2020 version
When I save, even a blank document, it takes Illustrator a lot longer than the previous version to save.

Certainly not fixed. This is killing our design department. Illustrator is updated to the lastest version. Working on 2019 macbook pro, catalina 10.15.1, 2.4ghz 8-core i9 processor, 32gb of ram, amd radeon pro 5500m 8gb, Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB.

Takes over a minute to prepare the file for save, then another 5 mins to actually save the file. What was wrong with the old method? This does not seem like an improvement, I can't believe they actually thought this was more productive than the previous saving method.
I'm lucky to not be paying for this (company does) but anyone paying the ridiculous prices being charged must feel so betrayed. It's almost as bad as Apple slowing down phones because they felt it was up to them.

Since I m using illustrator 2020 instead of 2019, I cant work in it anymore, it is impossible, every litte thing takes minutes. Why?? How to solve this?? It really is a problem since files in 2019 kept crashing. So I had to switch to 2020. My computer should be able to handle both programs, that can not be the issue.

My computer CRASHES when I try to package a relatively benign file. And then when it doesn’t crash, it hijacks my computer for 10-15 minutes at a time. Aint nobody got time for that, Illustrator!! Correct yourself please, it’s 20effing20 and we pay an arm and a leg for this ****!!

I have a 4000 computer and it takes 1 hour to save 9 pages. RIDICULOUS
I should not pay the cloud this month until fixing this problem. Who pays my time here???? -

It is interesting to note that I still run macOS Mojave 10.14.6 due to exorbitant accounting software upgrades and I do not have the same saving issues like many here. I did through before the illustrator upgrade but now all good. I am running Illustrator 24.1. I'm not too sure how this helps anyone but thought I would mention it.

I am using AI 2018. It often takes me 20 minutes to save a 30mb file... This is very frustrating.

Has taken 2 hours to save a 35mb file! Ridiculous and really slowing down everything else on my Mac at the same time!

UPDATE: I modified my File Handling Preferences per the post below (by Anonymous) and it seems to be working well. Anyone know if and when these preferences should be turned back on?

This is maddening. I agree, it's still doing it with 24.0.3I too thought there was something wrong with my computer. Going to try some of the suggestions below. Unreal. Way too much unbillable time waiting around.

Is anyone else just have overall issues with Illustrator? The program is constantly glitching, flickering, freezing and crashing on me. I've upgraded and replaced my computer 3 times over the last 3 months and I'm still having issues. It seems to get worse a few days before an update. I recently downloading v. 23.1. I so I can use it instead of v. 24.0.2 to open older files. These issues are really impacting my productivity as 85% of the design work I do is in Illustrator. Something that normally would take me 20 mins to do is now taking me an hour.

Just make the older versions available again! This is ****! How could you release a software that can't even save??? If you're working on a large project it gets impossible to save! and yes, I disabled the BG saving.

It's not fixed with 24.0.2. Exporting JPGs is horrendously slow and annoying. I'm so sick of you Adobe! Every single time you manage to do something stupid and cost us time and annoy us beyond believe. It was a time when companies payed beta-testers BEFORE release, now we are paying you to be your beta-testers. Your sorrys and hopes just don't fly with me anymore. Fix the damn thing!

Why does it take so long to save documents??! Pointless and time consuming, in an industry where time definitely equals money. Adobe is infuriating for taking what works and then reinventing it to make it worse. Like having a car and adding square wheels simply to be different.

I am now fed up. Just a small document in Illustrator 24.0.2 and it takes about two minutes to save before I can close the document. I want to roll back.

This is still not fixed in 24.0.3. I just want to be able to quickly hit CMD S and then CMD W to save and close without a stupid "Illustrator is currently saving…" dialog box that does not have a "Do not show again" checkbox for some insane reason. Can you just release stable new versions of software that people don't instantly regret updating to? We don't need any more useless features. We need it FAST and STABLE.

Save speed is simply awful AND speed to open AI files is awful.
Really need this fixed. It's now affecting my work. Also, i find Illustrator is actually hanging. I have really not experienced stability issues in 2+ years.
These last few Illustrator updates have really been a big step backwards.
On another note, Photoshop 2020 is working fine (quite solid actually).Running CC 24.02 64-bit
Windows 10.0.18363 64-bit
Running on separate Samsung Pro M.2 drives for both my main work and scratch disks. -

Adobe needs to leave all the CC stuff alone and go invent a car or something. Your software is at its end life. Stop adding **** and breaking your apps just to justify the subscriptions.
