Please remove the "The document [name] is currently getting saved. It will be closed after the save is complete." dialog
Or at least make that optional. It's a common practice to Command-S, Command-W, and now it's an extra step to hit "ok". If you don't click okay (or press enter), it just hangs there, not doing anything until you get rid of the dialog.
Either make the dialog optional, or handle it like InDesign, where the dialog disappears when the file is saved and then the window closes.
SO annoying with 2020 AI
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the feedback. Want to give an update that we have removed the dialog, and the new experience is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now, in case you want to give it a try. Now, there will be no blocking message, we will show a “soft message” which will auto-dismiss .
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

Mine is working properly now, no more message. Maybe Illustrator updated? It's now 24.0.3 and my OS is 10.15.2

It's driving me mad. Slows me down constantly. It worked much better before

So funny that it doesn't automatically dismiss, even after the file has saved.
You have to click "OK." Adobe is a joke!

Totally have this issue too: latest version of Illustrator (v24.0.3) on 2017 iMac running Mojave…almost every time I cmd+w to close a document it quits Illustrator. Super annoying as I've had to reopen the program about 15 times today.

Mac 10.13.6 / Ai 24.0.3 / I'm accustomed in Ps, Id and Ai to Save and Close a file using keyboard shortcuts - (cmd+s, cmd+w without pause). The program used to Save and then Close without any annoying pop-ups suggesting I've done something wrong. Now it shakes it finger at me, and often but not always, Ai will quit after closing the file, like it's storming off in a huff. Save and close should work smoothly and without complaint. It's become a huge annoyance multiple times a day.

Please add a way to disable this message, very disruptive to my work flow.

Finally Background Saving has arrived.
Backgroundsaving ist great. In PSD there is a checkbox for not prompting me again that the file will save and close after saving. So this dialog can be disabled.
But the background save process in illustrator don't have this checkbox.
Plz add that. so there is not always a click for the use when saving a file.

Sadly turning off "Save in Background" is not a solution. The proper behavior should be as it was in previous versions where the file is saved in the background and you can do whatever you like while it is saving including closing the window for the file being saved.

Saving a document and closing it to move on to another and a message popping up to say that illustrator will close the document when it's done saving, and then having the pop up sit on screen and stop the entire process seems really stupid.

Change the closing while saving dialog box to allow you to tick an option that says 'Don't show this again'
I work quickly and use the commands cmd+s and cmd+w and have lost hours of work by accidentally clicking the 'Close Anyways' option.

It's a completely bogus dialogue box. The only thing it possibly does is confuse the user into not saving anything. I don't mind waiting for something to save upon closing. Fine. It might be a big file. But interupting this action with a chance to not save any of my work is idiocy. And I concur with the "Close anyways?????" WTF we're not in middle school...unless that's where the current crop of developers are being recruited from.

"Close Anyways" – Anyways? It's Anyway! And, how about adjust the behaviour exactly as it is like InDesign, which isn't nearly as bad.

This is incredibly frustrating for me as well. Adds an extra step for no apparent reason.

I just updated to the latest illustrator 5 minutes ago, and it's already driving me nuts. Everytime I save/close a document (and I do this a hundred times a day) it now INSISTS on telling me that it is busy saving the document and it will close it when it is is done. Yeah, I already know that. I just don't want to sit here and wait for it to get done saving before I close it. I need to move on to the next thing I've got to do. Make this go away.

Thank you GFS_Ron. This solved the problem.

We disabled the "Save in Background" setting in Preferences > File Handling and Clipboard.... (also the "Export in Background")
-
GFS_Ron commented
We unchecked the "Save in Background" setting in Preferences > File Handling and Clipboard...so you can see the Progress Bar again

I was going to post about this. I'm working on a lot of files, and this adds an extra step that stops everything and asks me to click. Please go back to the way it was where it closed after saving.

Ditto. And the message isn't in proper English -- "getting saved", really? It's really a drag.
