I also assumed this new fix was a bug. Having -01 appended to the exported jpeg is essential to our workflow. I've downgraded to the previous version and hope this gets reverted soon.

90% of my work depends on exporting artboards WITH THE NAME THAT I GIVEN THE ARTBOARD. Please come back with the option to use the artboard names in the exported image files (jpg and png)!

I also agree that there should be a checkbox to opt in to the naming conventions of artboards if you need them. My colleagues and I thought this was a bug rather than an intentional decision. We had to downgrade back to an older version because we use these export settings as a major part of our workflow, and it would waste a lot of time to manually rename every export (hundreds everyday) On the other hand I can see how annoying it would be to have -01 added after every export when you don't need it. Surprised there wasn't a checkbox for this sooner to appease both sides.

I'd like to see Illustrator go back to the previous settings, and include the -01 to the exported file. Hope to see it change back soon. Agree w checkbox solutions below as well.

Adding artboard name to the filename is very important for my job and it is something I use all the time. It is strange how Adobe decided to bring this change without taking into account all those users that use it everyday. You could have an option for users that don't want it. But messing others people jobs is not pleasant at all. I hope you bring it back as soon as possible.

I support reverting Illustrator's behavior to add the -01 to exported, single-artboard files since many users seem to rely on this happening automatically.

I also agree with other commenters that a sticky checkbox added to export dialog window would give users the option to append the artboard name and may be the best solution.

It is the second consecutive update of Illustrator that has the same bug.

Naming an artboard and exporting file as psd with "use artboards" checked, does not add the name of the artboard in the end of the filename as it used to do.

But if I have more than one artboards, then it works.

I'd like to add that if I choose a specific number of artboard to export (one of two i.e.), it won't work either. It only seems to work when there are more than one artboards and export all of them at once.

Please Adobe, fix this bug because it is something I do all the time, sometimes with many artboards and others with only one.

After the latest update, Illustrator exports to an existing filename without a prompt. In addition it no longer appends the artboard number to filenames.

The way I've always understood how exporting works in Illustrator is, if you are not using multiple artboards and just working on a single artboard (not wanting to name the artboard and have it append to the file name), then you should be using the "Save for Web (Legacy)" option. The "Export As" option is for multiple artboards (appending artboard names to file names).

I've shared these 2 different workflow techniques with many colleagues over the years. There's also a 3rd export option – "Export for Screens", which has additional unique functionality as well.

Maybe for the less experienced users, the exporting options should be revised in a better way so one clearly knows which option to use for their specific needs. But one of these export options should have the functionality of appending artboard names to the end of file names, no matter if you're exporting 1 or more artboards at a time.

I understand it's frustrating when it breaks your workflow, but it just didn't make much sense that Illustrator added "-01" to every exported image even if you don't work with artboards at all (i.e, just use a single artboard and never rename it).

I see two possible solutions:

1. Add an "Append Artboard Name" toggle to the "Export" dialog. The toggle should be auto-enabled and set to readonly whenever there's more than one artboard present and "All" or "Range" with a range >1 is selected.

2. If there's only one artboard present and the artboard was never renamed (name = default), never append the artboard name. In any other case, always append artboard names.

This change affected my workflow at work. For a while I thought it was a bug, there was no notice that explained the change. An option should be given in settings to revert this. Thanks!

I really wish this function coming back. Or at least make a check box to use the name of the artboard on your exported file name!

This function is important for many designers (adding the name of the artboard to the file name) when exporting, which sign artboards specifically to preserve the file structure when presenting or sending to a client. please return this function, which has been in illustrator for many years! There are other ways to export for people who don't like it.

This is creating so many extra files on my server for when I start with one artboard then add more after the fact. It even asks if I want to update the one without the artboard name in the file, but it doesn't do anything. Of all updates, this is the most nonsense one for me.

I agree completely with the previous comment. I use this functionality to create multiple sizes/formats of a design which used to result in a nicely organized and named set of materials. Most of the Artboards in my setup requires a unique dpi or file type so I can’t export multiple at once.

This was not the best change to make for Adobe Illustrator's "Export As" function. There are 3 ways to export. If a user doesn't want to have the artboard names added at the end of their filenames, then they should be using the "Export for Screens" or "Save for Web (Legacy)" options, not "Export As".

The "Export As" function is (or I should now say 'was') helpful for naming each of your artboards with specific important labels to distinguish them apart from each other, and then have Illustrator automatically add those labels to the end of the file names. And sometimes you have to "Export As" 1 artboard at a time to set different export parameters, depending on the content in each artboard.

Now that this function has been removed from the "Export As" function, that means all 3 export options do not have this capability, which is adding more manual time and labor for everyone, to now have to manually type those artboard names into every exported file name? Not efficient.

This definitely was not a good update. Especially since it was originally posted in 2017. Having to name your artboards and have them exported as an file extension off the main file name is a huge asset. I agree with K.Chaplin comment. I believe what should have happened and should happen is that there is an "OPTION" setting either in Preferences or the dialog box when exporting. Not just eliminating it all together.

Yes, there is no way to customize or toggle it, and I think it was a miss and should be reconsidered.

Adobe turned off the ability to export a single artboard with its artboard name because a user complained about how difficult it was to have to go rename their files to remove the "–01". Sadly it was a popular feed apparently and Adobe just deleted the ability in the newest update for it to happen instead of giving us a choice to turn it on or off. I've seen many posts to turn it back on all over the internet, but according to contact - you HAVE to go through these stupid forums in order to make noise for them to listen. In order to turn it back on for those of us designers that 'get' the point of it - we have to go downgrade to the last version of AI. All they had to do was make it an option to turn on or off. Then everyone is happy. How hard is that???
