"Apply to All" checkbox or "Replace All" button are missing AGAIN
Apply to All option for missing/replacing links is missing again in version 28.5. Now instead of being able to click that and replace all links I know have to do the relink step up to 30 times every print file.
Hello all,
The 'Apply to all' checkbox has been brought back in the Replace missing link dialogue.
'Apply to all' checkbox was removed when we introduced the 'Auto-relink' (search for missing links in this folder) functionality, as we though 'auto-relink' is going to take care of the 'replace all' workflow as well. But it didn't work as expected in few cases as pointed out by some of you.
Hence, with the latest release V29.2 (full roll out happens on Jan 9), we have decided to revert to the earlier experience whereby we are bringing back 'apply to all' checkbox and rolling back the 'auto-relink functionality.
Because of conflicts, both of these functionality cannot co-exist unless we make some significant changes to the relinking experience.
As we understand, 'replace all' was a important workflow for most of you, so we decided to quickly bring it back while working on the overall link panel revamp which is going to take sometime.
Thanks

Fix this!

Plus this proposal is just TOO DEEP. It’s a dropdown with three options! Why not a radio group with all three choices visible all at once?
I’d prefer to have these directly in the dialog BEFORE this one.
It’s a rather important choice, and pushing it below another choice, when we actively search for the file, won’t get noticed by many, even though some related options are already there... -
Not enough.
InDesign has a dedicated 'Relink to Folder' menu command — which basically works as 'Replace + Search ... in This Folder', but doesn’t require to have links missing!
Here is the request about having it — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/39739852-add-relink-to-folder-to-the-links-panel-as-in — and notice a free script exists to do it — https://github.com/sky-chaser-high/adobe-illustrator-scripts#relinkToFolderThen, we might need to replace selected images (linked or not) with ONE another chosen link (this is exactly what users are crying about now) — but without using the mentioned 'delete to trigger the dialog' workaround (it IS a workaround).
And here is the request about having it — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34174264 ! Plus, again, there is a free script to do it — https://github.com/dumbm1/ai_scripts/blob/master/ord/fastRelink/fast_relink.jsx !What about the cursed Libraries, Batch relinking FROM a library?
There is a request — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/31902295 . This time no free script, because Libraries is a barred bunker with no ESTK support (sigh). Why not giving dedicated menu commands for all of those, along with the redesigning 'missing' dialog?
So we have these command in Links’ menu:
Relink
Relink Selected
Relink to Folder
Relink File Extension
Relink from CC Libraries
Relink Selected from CC Libraries
Notice how it says 'Libraries' (like the panel is called and how InDesign spells it), and not 'Library'.
Notice Libraries are shoved into the bottom, because local is more important than cloud (and always will be), and that’s how InDesign handles it. -

Thank you for your feature suggestions.
I have a question, does the replacement option "Selected Instance of 'XXXX'" mean that I can select any link while the broken link dialog box is running?
Normally, you cannot select the link palette while processing broken links.I'm sorry if I said something wrong due to lack of understanding.
Also, I'm commenting using Google Translate, so please excuse me if I use incorrect English.

Yes, that change would be sufficient. Still don't know why you took away the old way of doing it. Adobe seems to make frequent changes to stuff that actually works and that we actually use, while adding many new features nobody cares about.

As long as it works.

That looks like it would work. Thanks.

Adam, this one is a pretty recent change... They had the option at some point, but then dropped, because were not aware of the 'replace with one image' trick we started to use it for. The problem with the actual mass relinking to existing links was an old one, true, but this particular report is not about it.
And it IS going to be redeemed, as I am aware, soon enough. Fingers crossed.

complaint for over a decade. They keep saying they’re gonna do something about it but we keep waiting. I wouldn’t hold your breath about this actually getting fixed anytime soon.

We've been posting complaints about this specific issue for MONTHS now, and Adobe has yet to address it. It is likely that they have no intention of restoring this functionality, because like everything Adobe, "we know best what our users want, we don't care what the users actually say they want."

Will the apply all or replace all checkboxes be restored in the next update? When can we expect this to be released?

Please restore the "APPLY ALL" or "REPLACE ALL" checkbox. This is a very important feature, especially for us packaging graphic designers who have to do assembly. For example, there are 30 boxes in an assembly and it is necessary to replace them with another box of the same size. We could do this with a single click using the "CHANGE ALL or APPLY ALL" command. What is Adobe's purpose in removing this command? Are we causing trouble for Adobe users? Is it to provide convenience to companies selling assembly programs?

Please restore the "Apply to All" check box. The functionality it provides is unlike anything that exists with the current version of Illustrator. Many times a day I need to replace duplicated images (sometimes 200 times per artboard) with a DIFFERENT named file. It was one click using the "Apply to All" but without it, I am forced to click 200+ times each time! Please bring back the "Apply to All" check box. All of us in the printing industry (and may others) will thank you for it.
