Illustrator 29.7.1 changes units to points and resets other values after changing Keyboard Increment value when Search field has text in it
Another paradox is that version 29.7.1 of Illustrator constantly changes the units from px to points after entering an new value in keyboard increment. Does it happen to anybody else?

現在最新のベータ版 (29.9.0 #6) で少し改善されていて、環境設定を開くと「環境設定を検索」にフォーカスしなくなりました。環境設定が壊れるバグは直っていませんけど。

In the current latest beta version (29.9.0 #6), there has been some improvement - the Preferences no longer automatically focus on the Search Preferences bar when opened. However, the bug that corrupts the Preferences settings still hasn't been fixed. -

Thought the last update may have resolved/addressed this but while I work on a document with the General units set to Inches it will change to Points and I can't seem to reproduce this with specific steps. Still unsure if it is related to the new search menu after hitting CMD-K or a specific window/palette I use like Stroke (which uses pt) but it just seems with enough time going from tool to tool on a document I will see the units get changed for the entire document and I will have to manually reset it until it happens again.
Would love to know if anyone else is experiencing this on the current build.
macOS 15.6
Illustrator 29.7.1I have another older iMac with an older OS and the issue appears to be happening there too.

This bug is quite severe and requires immediate action. Therefore, removing the Search Preferences bar immediately should be prioritized over attempting to fix it first.

Back to say that resetting preferences did not fix this, the auto changing units was a real pain yesterday. I suppose the silver lining is that if the search isn’t auto-selected in the next version, it’s far less likely you’ll accidentally input something and trigger the problem.

NOT fixed in Beta 29.9.0.6. The focused Search filed, however, is no more.

Press Ctrl+K and accidentally type 1 in the search field. Then, change the keyboard increment value. And, as a result, the units setting automatically changed from mm to pixels. Every time you go into Preferences and change these settings, the units settings change. Please be ridiculous, this is ridiculous. I am doing mm and it is turning into pointse on its own, I am going crazy. Not only that, when we press Ctrl+K, it should go directly to the keyboard increment, not the automatic search. Enough, how many years has it been? You're breaking something while trying to fix something.

I have confirmed that the Search Preferences bar is causing this bug.

Casey is correct, when text is entered in the search field and you click OK, the units are changed to pt the next time you go to Preferences.

I haven’t had a lot of time to test, but resetting preferences seems to have calmed things down for me. I was also having an issue with “Fill new objects with placeholder text” turning itself back on repeatedly, but that seems to be behaving now too.
Just don’t forget to back up your actions, unlike me!

I'm facing the exact same issue here. I'm running a similar desktop setup — Windows 11, Ryzen 9 processor, RTX 3060, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe — and using the latest version of Illustrator.
Every time I open the Preferences panel (Ctrl+K), the input defaults to the search field instead of the keyboard increment, which used to be the standard behavior for years.
On top of that, even after setting my units to millimeters, Illustrator keeps reverting back to points when I make changes.
It's honestly becoming unbearable for daily work. This kind of inconsistency in a professional tool is really disruptive, especially when precision and speed are critical.

No, I went down two versions, doing that fixed a new kerning problem which popped up today and it got rid of the search bar in the preferences so everything is fine now.

Have you tried resetting preferences to fix this issue?

I have this exact same issue. I use increments all the time, my units keep defaulting to pt.
However I just found it only happens if there is text in the search bar when changing the increments. I keep typing in the search bar every time i change increments on autopilot because the default used to be increments, which then in turn causes this bug to activate.
I'm using macOS 15.6 with illustrator version 29.7.1

I'm using Windows 11 on a high-end setup (Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 3060, 64GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD), and I’m experiencing the same issue. I work with millimeters, but every time I open Preferences with Ctrl+K, type something in the search bar, and adjust the keyboard increment settings, it switches back to points. This is critical for my workflow, and it's frustrating to have to constantly reset it.

I get why, sure, no problems.
Perhaps other users who had it could tell more. -

@Egor. Unfortunately I uninstalled this version about an hour ago cause it was impossible for me to work normally. But I use mac mini m2 pro 32GB / 1TB and Mac OS 13.7.6. Thanks.

Doesn’t happen from me at Windows 10/11... If my global units (in Preferences) are set to pixels, the units stay in pixels when I change the Keyboard Increment value... Can you please tell what OS are you using?
Can you reproduce it anew? A clear chain of steps (preferably in a video, to follow it exactly) would help to investigate it.
