1. Don’t tell me I can’t save a document because it is saving

   I'm going back to the 2019 version. There are no benefits that I can find to using 2020. First of all, there's the issue of it telling me every time I try to do save-close that it can't close the document until it's done saving it. YES, I KNOW that - I simply don't want to sit here and wait on it, I've got other things to do.

   And on top of that, none of my fonts look pretty and clean like in 2019 and every previous version of illustrator.

   I WON'T be going back to 2020 until you can prove to me it's actually better.

2. Snap document window to artboard size

   In Photoshop, when you have a document open you can drag the window bigger/smaller, revealing the 'canvas' around your document.

   If you then use 'CMD -' or 'CMD +' to zoom in or out of the document, the actual document window snaps back to the size of your PSD.

   Illustrator acts differently - if you zoom in or out, the document window itself remains the same size - you just see more of less of the document's canvas around your artboard. It's a pain, as if you have several documents open that you want to be able to see at the same time, you have to individually re-size the document windows of each so they fit on screen at once.

   I can select 'View > Fit artboard in window' (or CMD + 0) but that doesn't resize the window - it just resizes the artboard to fit... it still leaves the window as wide/tall as it was. I guess I want to do the opposite.

   What I'm after is a way to 'fit' the document window to the size of the artboard.

3. Enable multiple paint bucket selections at once

   I use the paint bucket feature quite a bit on architectural drawings. One area of every drawing I work on has thousands of very small areas ... and I currently have to zoom in to make sure I fill every tiny closed area. It would be great if I could select a whole area (that included hundreds of smaller closed areas that I wanted to paint all the same color) ... and then color them all at once. This would save me (my company) 100 hours a week or more. Hope you can add this feature!!

4. Make symbols work in brushes

   When you save symbol as brush, it stops being symbol.
   This makes impossible live update of the brush, when brush changes as soon as you make changes.

   Making symbols stay symbols in brushes seems to be the easiest way of having such a behavior in AI.

5. Automatically push guides to a single layer

   It'd be great to have an optional feature that pushes every newly created guide to a dedicated guide layer. I think many people work with an extra layer for guides on top of their layer stack to toggle visibility and lock, and manually collecting all guides gets tedious.

6. As a user, I want to be informed when I am importing a 16-bit image that they are not supported and need to be converted to 8-bit

   Since AI devs don't seem keen to add 16-bit functionality to AI, at the very least, support your users by informing them that they are importing something that AI cannot display correctly.

7. Rearrange expanded layers without collapsing

   When a layer has sublayers and/or it is expanded, it is currently impossible to drag a new layer below the expanded layer without collapsing it because the new layer is automatically made a sublayer of that expanded layer. The opposite works - new layers can be placed above even when not collapsed. Being able to see desired sublayers or content and arrange in both directions would be ideal.

8. Move Hidden Layers with Parent

   I can't Move Hidden layers, groups, and objects if they are part of a group. Even if I click the targe icon, nothing hidden selects.

   Sincerest apologies to those familiar with the workflow in Illustrator but coming from photoshop it is mind-boggling that a Parent object does not move its children along with it just because they are invisible.
   Photoshop handles this exactly as one would expect and moves hidden items. Just because I can't see it doesn't also mean that it behaves as if locked.

   Context: when building a character for Character Animator a very complex grouping structure exists for every part of the body, and then those parts are duplicated for left and right profiles, and for whatever other body positions are needed.
   Making everything visible to move these complex groups and then turning them all off again to make new art is extremely time-consuming and prone to error over the number of layers that will be turning on and off in Ch.

   Am I completely wrong? If so please show me a better way.

9. [MINOR BUG] Drag fx from the appearance panel unto objects... it doesnt work

   Dragging a 'completed' effect: from the Appearance panel unto a new object ( to recreate the same effect ) doesn't work using the hand grab tool.

   I want to be able to drag effects that I've already made - from one object and reproduce them unto another...

   please try to do that and see if it works for you - on your end.

10. Include Photoshop's Gamut Warning feature

    Photoshop has a great feature that, in the color picker, greys out any colors unavailable in CMYK. This makes choosing appropriate colors for a project much faster and easier. It would be nice if Illustrator had this same functionality.

11. Linked assets swap feature

    Being designing 748 cards for EDU purposes, I suggest a feature that will let us swap assets stored in the cloud libraries the way we do with symbols.

    The reason :
    Linked assets between documents is a very handy feature
    But symbols cannot store linked assets .
    And symbols can be swapped in their own libraries which is also very handy, but these libraries are not linked between documents.
    As linked assets can store symbols, if we could swap linked assets containing symbols, it would be a big time saving.

12. Flow chart connectors

    Basic flow chart connectors- making either end of a path object stick to the edge, middle or corner of another object surely isn't that hard programmatically for your coders? Leave it to us to sort out where the paths go if you like but this functionality seems pretty basic (and universally demanded) for the Illustrator user.

14. Add "Apply to all" button to Embedded Profile Mismatch window

    Please add an "apply to all" check box to the "embedded profile mismatch" pop-up. It is incredibly time consuming to click the box for every link in a document, especially when there are many.

    Please also add an "apply to all" check box to the "Photoshop Import Options" pop-up so the same settings can be applied quickly to multiple links when embedding.

15. STOP changing the behavior of the tools!

    I have used AI for over 20 years -- I've even been featured in books!! Why the F is the team changing the behavior of tools. IT AINT BROKEN and you're making it worse.

    Just in the last 5 minutes I've found that I can no longer rotate a text box and have the text rotate, as well. Now the text stays put and the box rotates. WHY?

    Also, when I save a new document (with it set to AI editable pdf) it's saving some other copy and the document that's currently open is still unsaved and untitled. How is that an improvement?? If I hadn't noticed, i'd end up losing work on this untitled/unsaved working copy.

    Those aren't the only issues, just the two most recent. What are you doing over there, Adobe?

17. JSON for ExtendScript

    JSON is a standard JavaScript data format. Considering how close ExtendScript is to JavaScript it is very baffling that common functions like JSON.parse and JSON.stringify are not supported.

    Support for JSON would be very appreciated.

18. Please give us a way to disable newbie help

    I know the "Tour" window goes away if you skip it 3 times, but this is professional software we should have a way to disable ALL automatic help features. Also this doesnt need to reset when a new version of illustrator is sent out.

19. Keyboard command for "Find and Replace" Text or ability to add a Keyboard Shortcut.

    In Adobe Illustrator: Why is there not a keyboard command to bring up the "Find and Replace" dialog box or the ability to add your own Keyboard Shortcut to do this?
