When Gradient Tool is active, make holding Alt switch to Eyedropper tool
If we hold Alt when Gradient tool is active and there is a stop selected, we can click with Alt in Swatches to apply it to the stop (although no cursor feedback or hint signals it can be done). Besides this function, Alt+click is used for nothing...
Use it to temporarily switch to the Eyedropper tool. This is a standard approach in many apps, it’s fast to learn, and just convenient.

Export EPS with latex
The open source Inkscape has the feature where you could edit any text as latex in the EPS-file after exporting it. This makes all scientists and other users of latex mega-happy. This is the easiest way to format the text to fit the latex document, and to add nice math writings to the figure in the blink of an eye, instead of the tedious work of writing the correct font and special math symbols in Illustrator.
Could Ai please add the feature of generating something similar to what is documented here: http://tug.ctan.org/info/svg-inkscape/InkscapePDFLaTeX.pdf ?
I believe this is easy and quickly…

Ability to create Layer masks in Ai that can be used in Ae
I would like to have the ability to create masks in Illustrator that carry over to Ae. It would make the process much faster and more streamlines to build it all in illustrator before I transfer over to Ae for animation.

your default workspace is completely off point of the tools illustrators need close at hand
hey, folks, I've been using Illustrator continuously (and intensely) since 1987. Every time I make a transition to a new Mac and load a fresh copy of the Creative Suite, I'm frustrated by the task of rebuilding the essential palette of tools that need to be close at hand in Illy for max productivity — color, stroke, character, align + pathfinder, layers . . . your out-of-the-box defaults have it all wrong. Makes me wonder: do any of you people actually use this product for making stuff in the day to day? And good god, please stop with the scrubby…

Text accessibility checker
It would be great if adobe design tools provided a built in checker or warning system for type that does not meet the 4:5:1 standard for contrast. Currently I have to use third party tools to verify that the colors have enough contrast. Would be great if I could do that right in that app or if a warning popped up similar to overset text.

Dimension tool style presets
The dimension tool gives alot of style options for the arrow size, line thickness, offsets, etc. It would be great to save presets that could be switched from a dropdown list in the dimension tool options dialog.

Thanks for logging the request anyway. Upvote it still if you find it useful.

Illustrator 88's pen tool worked better than this one
Please, please... does anyone at Adobe actually draw with the current pen tool? This is the main tool in your toolbox and it hasn't had a good flow since Illustrator 10. You should be able to draw and use modifier keys to change to the +, - and ^ with ease. Instead, the cursor flashes and gives you one teensy moment when any of those are available resulting in additional points being placed when you might, for instance, be trying to remove a point. The direction handles get in the way of reaching points. Segments are…

Expanding Intertwine creates too many identical copies and doesn’t optimize them
If you expand an intertwine object (with the global Expand: Object command, since it does not have its own specific Expand), the one with a lot of zones, you get a ton of overlapped clipping containers with a reordered copies insides, one per each zone used.
While technically it’s OK, the amount of copies can be just absurd.
Some copies are identical and differentiate only by the location of their clipping masks. Perhaps Ai should track these copies and clip then not with separate masks, but a single compound path mask, when possible? The degradation is not so…
12 votesIntertwine now tries to optimize the number of clips created when expanding.

Please revise the new tool to simplify paths once again
Hello, the new tool to simplify the paths will be great for many people. But I draw my lines deliberately blurred. With the old tool I always set the value to 98% or 99%. But even if I set everything to maximum in the new tool, the paths will be really smooth. But I don't want it to be that smooth. Please rework the settings again. The paths should look blurred, but have as few anchor points as possible. With the old tool it always worked great. Many thanks
Gabi

Enhancing the Convert to Shape Effects
The Rectangle, Eplise and Polygon tools had been updated with dynamic properties in CC 2014.
That will be huge to have these properties added to the "Convert to Shape" Effect and to add the Polygon and Star tools to the "Convert to Shape" list.
It will allow more Advanced Appearances and Graphic Styles.

Disintegrate Tool
Just like we have Crystallize and Wrinkle tools, can we have a tool along with it to disintegrate the edge of a shape? Thanks a lot

Add reference point locator for symbols
Symbols only have registration point. Fine, store it. Use it as default for scaling-rotating and so on. But why I can't set reference point for transforming it as I want, and as I can for EVERYTHING else?! What, AI can't calculate it's left top coordinate or what? Why can't I flip it over the left edge, for example? Why can't I even COPY it's top left coordinate?
Shh, calm down.
18 votesThis can be done with Transform panel’s flyout menu — disable 'Use Registration Point for Symbol' option.

Reshape Tool’s markers don’t conform the Anchor Points, Handle, and Bounding Box Display Size' parameter
Reshape Tool is a rather hidden tool within Illustrator’s toolbox.
It never received any updates (as many other tools) in last decades, and got even worse thanks to one specific improvement.Illustrator today allows to increase size of anchor points, handle, and other control markers (referred below as just 'markers') with a dedicated parameter in the Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display section). It helps to transform and edit paths on higher DPI displays — a good feature.
...but Reshape Tool marks its control points with squares slightly larger than a normal point... a normal point of a smallest…

Bevel and Emboss effect
This is something i've waited for years and it's a feature that Photoshop had for decades, was introduced in InDesign 2.0. Even FreeHand MX featured it in 2001... but it never came to Illustrator.
When will we count with the Bevel and Emboss effect? Why not all the Effects InDesign has featured too on Illustrator?
It will add a great bang of options to AI...I let a screenshot of it on actual InDesign CC

Lock tools or pallets to the edge when using multiple monitors?
I'd like to be able to pin toolbars or windows to the inside edge when using multiple monitors. I like keeping my main display clear of obstruction and have my tool pallets against the "spine" between the two monitors on the secondary display. Illustrator only allows toolbar pinning to happen on the extreme left or right of all monitors... Please allow the ability to pin to the spine/seam of the monitors.

"Actual Size" should work with multiple monitors.
The new "Actual size" option on the view menu only works with the primary monitor. This should really work with multiple monitors as many AI users have more than one monitor. Please consider extending this feature. If you decide not to, then please display a warning to users stating that it's not actual size unless using the primary monitor as the drawing monitor.

Export plain absolute or relative SVG-Code - not mixed on as now.
Ai creates SVG-Code with both types of instructions: absolute (capital letters in the code) and relative (lower case letters in the code) instructions. For working with the SVG-Code, it would be better, Ai creates plain absolute or plain relative Code - perhaps the user can choose it before exporting. For my work with SVG, I programmed a tool to do so (in a second step after exporting of course), but it would be much better (and for all of us), if Ai would do it itself.

Add an option for the Transform effect to use visible bounds of a clipping object
Transform effect is one of the most powerful thing Ai has, compared to whole Repeats functionality. It’s versatile, it works with anything (unlike Repeats).
It has some flaws though, and one of them is the fact it always operates on the overall bounds of the objects, even if it is clipped. It can be useful for some cases, but most of the time we treat objects differently.
Check the image attached.
This combination of effect options applied to a clipped ellipse should produce a result like the green one at thee right... instead, the object is reflected from the right…16 votes -
'Expand' generates excess groups, clipping groups, compound paths and other unwanted vector garbage. Keep it simple!
Try expanding a brush or a 3D shape and take a look at the large pile of unwanted groups, compound paths and clipping masks Illustrator has generated for you. It just adds complexity to the file and makes the object appearance tricky to work with. See example ai file attached.
If you have Astute Graphic’s Vector First Aid plugin you can remove all that stuff and see just how simple and usable your vectors can be (I recommend it), Wouldn’t it be better if Illustrator didn’t generate junk in the first place?
Please make sure Illustrator only generates the…6 votes
