  1. Make custom layers outside of artboards visible in Trim View

Sometimes when using Trim view I do want to see other items shown. Like Notes or measurements that are outside of the artboard, But I still want the preview of Trim View to hide bleed and artwork that extends beyond. I wish that inside the layer Options Settings. there was a checkbox to show in Trim View, so items on that layer are still visible when trim view is active

  2. Artboards do not snap to whole pixels

When the snap to pixel option is turned on and I use the Artboard Tool dragging the corner of the artboard results in random decimals.
Say if my artboard is 512x512 and I drag a corner out it will now be dragging at every pixel but with a random decimal rather than a integer. this decimal will be the same at every snapped pixel until I let go. at this point if I move it again a new random decimal will be added.

These two screenshots show issue values. take not it is random and the X and…

  3. Make the eyedropper appear with the Brush / Blob Brush tool selected by holding the Alt / Option key

With the Brush or Blob Brush tool selected, make the Eyedropper appear by holding down the Opt / Alt key. This would allow colors within the document to be sampled just like in Photoshop, without having to keep selecting from the swatches.

  4. warp tool - bloat tool

I have several suggestions on this tool :
1 - warp tool and bloat tool should have the same sensitivity. Now, with the same intensity they react extremly differently. I often have to open the dialog box, which is laborious so :
2 - Find a way to adjust the tool without opening the dialog box,
ALt + click = change the size
Alt + Shift + click = change the size proportionaly
Alt + Ctrl + click = change the intensity and voilà!
3 - Is there a way to keep my tool setting, because it is very laborious…

  5. PDF stroke and fill shape should be imported as a single object, not two separate objects

PDF stroke and fill shape should be imported as a single object. Currently Illustrator parses such shapes as two objects: fill, stroke. This behaviour can be seen when exporting as PDF in Illustrator (without AI editing capabilities) and importing it again.

Note: This seems to be caused by incorrect handling of B and B* PDF operators (fill + stroke in one object).

  7. Eyedropper tool in Recolor Artwork dialog is not available

In the Recolor Artwork panel, there is no eyedropper tool at the top. There is only the word "Reset". Why is this happening?

  9. Smart Guides: prioritize artboards, respect logical hierarchy

This situation has been frustrating for many, many years:

    • I'm zoomed out to a level that makes it tricky for AI to understand what I want Smart Guides to snap to.

    • There are many elements in my doc that could be desired for that snapping, but they are a mix of paths, compound paths, placed media, and artboards. Many of these things are FAR away from the elements I'm trying to snap.

    • AI either doesn't have any perceived hierarchy or it prioritizes snapping in an obscure way, and it will attempt to snap to those far away things instead of…

  10. Intertwine needs a better way to display order operations rather than hiding them in a context menus

It’s not clear we can chose methods other than 'swap order' for cases when a freshly created intertwine zone has several possible solutions. Illustrator draws and edge around the current zone (quite poorly signaled, which is a different topic: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/45845602-make-intertwine-edit-mode-telegraphed-better), but then a single left-click just swaps and immediately ends editing the zone.

The fact we can click on the highlighted segment with a right mouse button and choose an order is not very obvious... because — let’s admit it — Illustrator can’t do context menus very well and we are not used to have anything really 'contextual' in…

  11. Gradients don't snap to grid or to Smart Guides

I can't believe I haven't posted it, but the search says so.
Since CS4, I guess, when the cool and fancy gradient annotator showed up, the Gradient tool had lost it's ability to snap to grid. WHY? Do you think nobody needs to snap gradients? I need, at least.
It should also snap to Smart guides!

Everything must snap to grid, when Snap to grid is enabled.

Beta Build 29.6.142 now partially supports Gradient Tool snapping with Smart Guides enabled, but for the starting point only at the moment. Snapping to grid is not supported as well, and gradient stops won’t snap at all. There is no dedicated option for the tool to control the behavior as well.

If you noticing anything else while testing this (please do!) — kindly make a comment.

  12. New Tool Idea: "Drag Draw"

I've developed a novel way of drawing vector shapes using a delayed "drag point" method which at first seems counter-intuitive, but is actually closer to the way people draw with pens and brushes, because the drawing point is distanced from the moving point by a controlled amount (as if drawing with a chain), smoothing out the resulting line. My working demo was built in Javascript and can be observed in the attached video, but would be much more powerful within Illustrator and Photoshop. The tool I created allows me to export SVGs and gives me the ability to…

  13. Old Dogs New Tricks - "Stop modernizing mode" or "stop teaching new things mode"

I've been using Illustrator since the 1990s and can use tools with my eyes closed and with keyboard commands like second nature. What trips me up every time I use it these days is it is constantly changing with little tweaks and updates! Insessant tool tips to teach me how to use the most basic of tool features!

Can I please have a feature to
    1. Turn off tool tip prompts and teaching features
    2. Turn on 1990s mode or 2000s mode or 2010s mode makes the tools organize and perform as previous feature sets.

  15. Respect clip groups in pattern brushes

We can put a rectangle with no-fill and no-stroke under a tile art of a pattern brush to tell Illustrator about the bounds we want to use.
Also, we can clip the tile art with a copy of this rectangle.

When used together, this allows to create a tile which is clipped and uses the bounds we expect... Well, almost — the preview of the tile in the dialog is going to be wrong, but the preview of the brush itself and the way brush behaves is going to be correct.

But without the bottom copy Illustrator won’t respect the…

  16. Angular Smart Guides for everything, similar to those Snap to Glyph has

There is a lesser known Snap to Glyph command in context menu, which allow you to snap to any live glyph under cursor. It requires Smart Guides and Snap tp Glyph commands enabled (and Snap to Grid disabled).

Once you enter the mode, the chosen glyph is highlighted with a rectangle, and you are able to construct new art relative to points of this live glyph, as if it was outlined.
These guides are green, similar to normal Glyph Guides, but some guides are unique to this mode, like the 'angular' one — which allows us to build on a…

  17. Blend Tool Default Settings

I use the blend tool primarily to create specified steps between objects. The tool always defaults to smooth color spacing. It would be great to be able to set a default spacing mode. In fact, it would be even better if the properties panel showed blend tool options.

  18. Panelize Blend Options, Offset Path, etc.

In pre-2020 Illustrator versions, the Path -> Simplify tool was a window. Post 2020, it got changed into a live panel which, when opened, doesn't halt the focus and lets you change settings while you move around the artboard with the Hand tool or Zoom in or such.
It is sadly the only "classic" Object tool that got this treatment. Other tools, especially Blend Options, Offset Path, Envelope Distort with Warp, etc. would benefit greatly from similar panelisation. It's not a great user experience that I can't zoom or pan while I'm trying to offset my path.

  19. Don’t force creating a dedicated layer for Swatch Info objects

When we create a Swatch Info object, a new layer named 'Swatch Info Layer' gets created automatically. I don’t need it. I want to be able to choose if I need this layer, and what name it should use. My layer structure is something I prefer to have control over, and the way Ai thinks I need to have a singular group this creates in a separate layer is insulting.

Same goes for Dimensions — why do you think I mustn’t choose the layer’s name?

  20. Symmetric Curve while using Pen Tool

As in Corel Draw if we are using a "Three point curve tool" we can make it a symmetric circular shape curve by simply pressing the shortcut "SHIFT" key.
I think it should be in illustrator with the pen tool. We could make it circular by pressing any shortcut key. as most of the time symmetric circular curves are required instead of simple smooth curves.
