Set default artboard name as file name
Is it possible to have a setting in preferences to set the default artboard name as the file name?
Generally I name all my artboards the "file nameCMYK" or "FilenamePantone" for exporting later and it's just a tedious extra step to have to go in and name EVERY artboard what I've already named the file instead of just tacking on a delineation.

Show artboard user-assigned names and numbers when exporting/saving
When saving as a PDF (and other similar activities) the dialog box will allow you to filter to certain artboards using their numbers. However if you're using lots of artboards it can be difficult to know which artboard to select. I usually have to go back through the document, activate the artboard tool to see the names, make notes of the number, and then resume my export/save. How about adding the user-assigned name along side the artboard numbers in the dialog filter. Or possibly have a list of artboards (like the artboards panel) and simply check boxes for…

Live Free Distort
I would like to see the "Free Distort" effect be extended to work on the actual object, not going through a tiny dialog box that feels like I'm trying to apply it to a postage stamp. It's really difficult to apply a distorted shape to a larger area when I am guessing if a 1-pixel move of a tiny handle is going to make a difference or not. It would be amazing if four independent handles were on the actual art and allow me to move the corners exactly to the spot I want to place them at. It's a…

Set "Registration" (and/or other library color) to Dimension tool
I would like the ability to set the size color in "Registration" on the lines and text. Unfortunately currently (version 28.1) it is possible to freely set the colors but it is not possible to set the Registration color or other colors present in the document samples. This would be very useful for me when printing color separations for different uses.

Option to auto-sharp an anchor point when using the pen tool.
By default when making a anchor point with the pen tool it gives you a curve anchor(2 direction handles). I request that we have the option to make it a sharp anchor(1 direction handle).
Currently in order to make a sharp anchor you have to go back and select the anchor again. This is a slow method if you only draw in sharp anchors. By having this new option it will be lot faster and easier to draw in this style.
3 votesYou can do that by holding Alt right after you click the first point with the Pen tool and releasing it after you finish dragging the handle out. This creates legitimate corner point with one hadle.

[Script HELP] Import file to artboards and flatten transparency
Hi, I'm looking for a script that can IMPORT files (AI, PDF, EPS) by inserting these files, or multipage PDFs, onto multiple illustrator tables in a connected way.
Then let me select eg. from table 1 to 5 (of 200) and apply a preset registered in the CONVERT TRANSPARENCY panel. Can someone help me?

Align to object on ANOTHER artboard! yeah yeah!
Aligning to an object on another arboard would be really great + needed, for AI users.
In addition to functions like, align to key object and select/edit similar shapes,
It would be so so great to be abled to align an object, to another object, on another artboard! In short:
Aligning objects to the position of other objects on other artboards.
Without having to move objects to the same artboard 1st, or copy their x/y values, just for alignment. Some thoughts/notes:
Implementation,
With artboard rules activated, of course. This seems to be a similar function to the ones that exist:…5 votes -
Add the Make Compound Path icon back to the Properties panel
A couple years ago, there was an icon (below the pathfinder tools) that appeared in the properties panel when you had multiple items selected - Make Compound Path. A subsequent update removed that tool from the properties panel. Release compound path is still available right there in the properties when the selected object happens to be a compound path. Some people suggest just using the pathfinder Union to make a compound path, but it's definitely not the same thing as making a compound path (pathfinder union on non-connected items makes a group, not a true compound path…

Allow to reposition buttons in the Align panel
Recently Ai Beta added the Full Align button in the Align panel, following this request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34796770
Works perfectly, great icon for it too — my only extra beg is that the order of the align buttons can be amended, so I can drag them into an order that works for ease of use :)

crashed and erased my project file? from two hard drives?
Just letting you know I just updated AI and it just crashed and the project file I was working on (that I had saved to two separate external hard drives) is nowhere to be found now, it didn't show up in my recent files and now I have searched where it was saved on both hard drives and it is completely gone. Awesome. So I guess my request is that if illustrator crashes make it to where it at least doesn't delete the project completely, and autosave backup would be nice but I'd really rather not have to start projects…

Correct View > Snap to Grid shortcut from Cmd/Ctrl+" to proper Cmd/Ctrl+'
My request is a bit nerdy, but hey! I have been using Illustrator for 'ages' and one of the shortcuts is simply not correct. I always think it's cute, in a way, but still.
The shortcut to show or hide the grid is listed as Ctrl + "
This is impossible to achieve since you need the 'Shift' key to type the double quotation marks :)
So, I think it should be Ctrl + ' .
The shortcut to snap to the grid is fun in this light; it's Ctrl + Shift + "
So, I was wondering if anyone…2 votes -
A keyboard shortcut option for "Redefine Graphic Style" in the Appearance panel's menu
I have shifted to a very Graphic Style-focused workflow lately and find myself constantly hitting this menu item when I'm figuring out exactly what a Style should look like. I would like to be able to assign a shortcut to it.
It is currently nowhere to be found in the Keyboard Shortcuts panel. It is also one of the many, many actions in Illustrator that can't be recorded in an Action.
There's a lot of menu items in Illustrator's panels that have these problems and it would be great to have a general fix for all of them, but this…

Knife tool with Bezier curves like Pen tool
I like the idea of the Knife tool and I try to use it. It is worthless because it has no control... If it used Bezier curves or like the Photoshop's Polygon tool that would be awesome.
1 voteWhile the Knife tools definitely lacks precision (and there is a request about it), but there is a way you can use any path as a cutting path, the same way the Knife does.
Draw a path over the objects you want to cut, select it and use Object > Path > Divide Objects Below.
Please comments back if it works or doesn’t work for you.

2D Extrude
I would like a 2D extrude feature. For example...
- Draw a box and add extra points to it.
- Select every other set of two points (i.e. segments) and pull them so they extrude out (instead of bend - or have the choice of bend OR extrude), perpendicular to the line they're on.
Currently I have to duplicate and rotate and then merge... I'd rather like to be able to pull out extruded segments without having to do it manually.
Boom! great idea, thanks for adding my name to the next release with this new tool. If you don't understand this…

Give aligning options for Text on Path tool.
When using the Text on Path tool, it would be nice to have alignment/distribution options.
Aligning the first and last letter, center at top or bottom, and fit text around a shape.
They way it is now, you have to drop guides and align and distribute the text so that it is even.
It would be wonderful also to use the dropper tool to apply the alignment to new text. For instance, if I have an emblem and need to wrap several different texts around it, then once I have one the way I like I could easily apply that…2 votes -
Make it possible to have NO active Artboard
I often take screenshots of my work within Illustrator for Proofing purposes and more.. but when doing this I'm often stuck with the dark outline of the active artboard mixed in with multiple other images that do not have the dark artboard line. yes, often times I can simply hide artboards and get what I need, but other times what I'm looking for is only within my Trim view. So even when I go into Trim view and try to hide artboards to remove this dark outline, it does not. I recently learned that toggling to overprint fill turns the…

Pressing V opens "view" tab instead of switching to selection tool.
On Windows, when you use V to switch from pen tool to selection tool, some times it opens up the "View" tab instead.

Add a triangle to the shapes tool apart from the star.
I'd LOVE if there was a triangle tool other than using the star tool to make it easier and quicker. I make a lot of signs with arrows and it'd be SO nice. THX!

Show the exact location where snapping to grid occurs
Snap to Grid is underrated. Illustrator makes everything to make it uncomfortable to use: no constantly available indicator, clashing with Smart Guides, the general lack of customization (https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-feature-requests/suggestions/32403847-make-center-point-visible-while-dragging-art)...
And also it does not give enough feedback on WHERE the moved / transformed object snaps to, to which exact gridlines’ intersection.
Something just happens!
Look at the GIF — this 13.25×13.25 magenta square feels like it’s lagging, also I’m just trying to position it.Look at the second GIF, from Affinity Designer. Can you spot the difference? We can clearly see which point it snaps to, no…
