Hey, I have a really bad issue since a few weeks. There are the facts about it:

Operating System and Adobe Illustrator Version:
- Operating System: Windows 10 Pro (22H2)
- Adobe Illustrator Version: CC v28.5

Steps before the Issue came:
1. Open Adobe Illustrator.
2. Attempt to open any Illustrator file.
3. If I repeat the process multiple times, the issue tends to resolve itself.

Expected Result:
- The workspace should display as usual with the artboard visible in the main preview window.

Actual Result:
- The workspace appears grey as shown in the attached photo.
- The artboard is visible in the "Navigator" panel but not in the main preview window.

i'm trying to open it but it shows pure blank

None of my work shows up (only gray background) unless I click “outline” view, then I can only see the vector outlines

Since the last couple of updates I cannot open a new file on Illustrator. The screen is black and I'm able to open a previous project but when I click to open a new project it doesn't even load or try to open a new file. Photo of blank screen for reference.

( new ) option does not work and i cannot create new documents. And when i open illustrator its just black screen until i open something that already exists.

Filip, can you still access menus?
If yes, try to disable Home Screen in Edit > Preferences > General.
Then use Ctrl+N or File > New to create a document.
Please comment back if it helps.

And sure this is a bug.

When i start Illustrator it opens as usual. But when its open i have this greyscreen and can not make new docusment or open anything. Pls help

When I launch Illustrator it is only a black screen and doesn't load. I have tried rebooting it many times and logging in and out of Adobe but it is still a black screen. After about 5 min of trying to get it to load the screen crashes.

Same here. I hope this fix this soon. On my end - i can only open from preset templates. But anything else doesn't open. Quite frustrating tbh. 2020 version was working fine on my end

Happened through several versions of Illustrator and just happened again in the new 2021 version. Macbook Pro 2012 Retina running Macbook display and external monitor. If I click on the tabs at the top to select different documents I only see the original file that was open when the problem started which is not necessarily the first opened file. I can see and work on the "invisible" files if I pull the tab away and float the window. If I try to anchor the tab back with the others all files turn gray so it appears to have something to do with the tabbed system. It is very inconvenient to keep closing all of my files and restart Illustrator. Sometimes it happens again within minutes.

When I try to 'Create New' or load an old artwork, the artboard does not generate. The screen either a) remains the same (see picture) or b) goes completely white. Nothing will generate on the screen. If I zoom in or out, nothing changes. If I create shapes, they don't generate.

for background color : Contol K - Preferences - User Interface - Canvas color -white

For Appear artboard: View - hide/show artboard

I tried most all the suggestions below then just restarted illustrator and that worked.

Try to resize the window, that's what worked for me. Just grab the corner and click to drag, the art shows up after.

THANK you for this!! I could not figure out how to get anything to show, resizing the window did it. UGH that was stressful lol.
