Image Not Visible/Blank When Placing EPS Files into new file
I use a program called Separation Studio to separate raster images into spot colors. I then open up a new Illustrator file, click file -> place -> select the eps file created from Separation Studio, and the image that is placed is blank. This was not an issue with any versions of Illustrator. In previous versions, you were able to see the image that was placed and even change/alter the spot colors that were brought in. In this new version, CC18, the spot colors come in with the image when it's placed, but even if you change the spot color, nothing changes about the image, it is just blank. This is a crucial part of our business and I need help quickly, if possible. I am reinstalling CC17 in the meantime to get by.
We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.
Please refer to our knowledge base FAQ – https://illustrator.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1844590 if you face difficulty in update.
Or get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html

We had to place the photoshop file with the spot channels (seps) included into illustrator - this is our working sep file before we delete the RGB channels and save as .dcs. That worked for us.
Another less desirable option would be go really old school and split channels and place/relink the individual tiffs overprinting into illustrator for output.
Really needs to be fixed!! -

Adobe keeps telling me that bug fix 22.0.2 fixes the DCS issue! NOOOO it does NOT!
This bug fix Does NOT fix the DCS issue! It didn't work for 32bit or 64 bit
I still can't use DCS files!!Adobe where is your Quality Test Engineers
As a screen printer I am so stuck!! I can't use my serparation files so I am having to separate by hand! Any other screen printers have a fix on how I can use the Separation Studio files to print my transparencies?

Is anyone else having issues with placing an EPS file and getting an error that says, Cant place the illustration? Could not read the TIFF preview? I use separation studio for my screen printing and separation studio puts the files into eps. I then place the eps into illustrator and normally it adds the file and illustrator with specific settings will work with my EPSON 1430 transparency printer. Since using the latest illustrator with the bug fix of 22.02 I am still having this same issue and can't use illustrator to print my transparencies.

I spoke with a tech that informed me that the DCS filetype is being phased out. I was able to follow the steps to copy my channels into a native Photoshop file. From there one can send the PSD file straight to a RIP software or place the PSD into an Illustrator template.
I assume in the future one need not delete the RGB/CYMK channels I.E. do not use Multichannel. Saves a few extra steps if you know about this change ahead of time. But if you need to convert files that are already DCS, just drag the channels into anew PSD. -

Hi Rita & Sarah, I rechecked my version of Illustrator and for some reason (probably operator error :)) the update wasn't applied. Re-installed the update & is working fine. Thanks for following up with me.

Hi Chris,
We are unable to reproduce this at our end. Can you please specify the os platform and your option setting while saving as pdf.
Thanks

Same issue here. It seems that every new Illustrator release breaks something. Would it be possible to stop making so many releases and just start making fewer solid releases? Please???

@Ashutosh when do you expect a standard update through the could on this fix? I have a few clients that are scared to do any manual installing of a hot fix.

Thank you Ashutosh. I have output three different tests and all were successful. The image can been seen now without the "USE LOW RESOULTION PROXY..." setting as well, which is nice! If I encounter any other issues pertaining to this I will let you know.
Thanks! -

Please fix this... doesn't really make sense as to why this would change.

What gives CC 2018... Still no fix???
I can no longer output separations containing DCS2 files with spot colors.
Called in to Adobe, very helpful besides for fixing the issue. This was two weeks ago because I have to use Separation Studio on a daily basis. No fix they had me roll back to 2017 as a fix.Adobe-Please advise when fixed because what good is it if I am paying for a product each month that is not working!

The company I work for only works with Photoshop & Illustrator & using DCS files that work in both is essential for daily workflow. This is a horrible thing to have happen. We are Creative Cloud users & are quite upset at this malfunction. Please resolve this issue quickly. Thank you.

At the risk of repeating what other have already reported, since "updating" to CC 2018 I can no longer output separations containing DCS2 files with spot colours.
The low res preview shows up in the document, but when I overprint preview everything is blank - which is exactly what comes out of the imagesetter.
Not sure if this problem lies with Illustrator 2018 or Photoshop 2018, as both were updated at the same time. -

Hi Chris,
Can you please elaborate a little. It would be helpful if you share the steps that you followed and the file that you were using.

Placed DCS EPS files have displayed and separated well in Illustrator for many years. This function is not just useful for 'separation workflows', those of us who provide artwork for prepress/output need this function 1) to see what we are doing, and 2) to generate PDF previews from Illustrator files to simulate for clients what the finished printed product will look like. Adobe need to restore this functionality ASAP and update.

CC18 is not working at all using the 'Use Low Resolution' setting with the direct-to-screen CTS rip either. The preview shows up, the spot colors are imported, but the RIP sees nothing. I'm going back to 2017 until this is fixed - Adobe you have a lot of screen printers counting on you to fix this.
