Illustrator CC 2019 is very slow and laggy
I'm using a Mac OS 10.13 Intel Core i7 16 GB. Ever since I updated to the CC 2019, illustrator became laggy and slow. The other adobe apps worked fine after the update. I saw here that I should try turning the dictation off but that didn't help.
Everything in illustrator is slow now. And if I use the blend tool a lot in one document the eyedropper option in the gradient window becomes unavailable. Everything even if it's as simple as moving from one art board to the next or zooming in/out is lagging

adobeeee uffff you guys are really testing patience. Are you guys really deaf and blind. Program is responding laggy and slow, my works are pending just because of the slow application.

Right now the program is lagging. I have restarted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it is still lagging. If I try to move or resize an object it takes between 5 and 10 seconds for Illustrator to register the change.
It is silly that this is still an issue after a year. 276 comments, 134 votes and it still isn't fixed. Please, Just get it done. A flagship program like this that lags this bad incredibly unprofessional.

Simply put: No software is worse than Illustrator. I'm not able to save or open without the entire program shutting down, so yes - an absolute **** program, since you don't fix it I suppose there's nothing else for us customers to do than to:
Not pay for that part of the adobe CC cloud?

I could have learned the entire Corel suite in the time I have spent waiting for illustrator to do even the simplest tasks. If things don't improve quickly, that's what I'm going to do.

Can someone from the Illustrator team say that you are working on this problem and you are actually seeing it? Till now from June 2019 there is silence ... How many videos I have to record to show it to you...
1. Resizing vector shapes like rectangle, circle, triangle have a laggy feeling and some kind of delay/latency.
https://youtu.be/HBO0pH_ee3A2. Moving canvas is so laggy
https://youtu.be/jRbf0-3o7Mk3. Overall comparison Adobe products to the lower end windows machine and how the Adobe is much more optimized on PC Dekstops…

You can improve the Illustrator speed changing the live view from CPU to GPU.

It's just jaw-dropping to see so many fellow sufferers struggling with the slowness of Illustrator. How is it possible that Adobe developers cannot resolve this, while the problem is so obvious?
I have been using Illustrator since version 7 and I know that it was originally a smoothly running application. I always thought that made sense, because it works mainly with vectors and less with (heavy) Bitmaps. For some reason it has now become frustrating to work with, while other Adobe applications are functioning perfectly fine.
We really need a solution.

Same problem discovered today after changing to a Samsung UHD screen. AI is laggy and crashed once (not sure if this was because of that).
My system is windows 10. Computer Dell with Intel Graphics 620 UHD series, i-5 8250, Adobe Illustrator 2020cc. All drivers are up to date. I need to test it more thoroughly, but it seems that sometimes switchin to CPU preview helps a bit. -

Has the team been able to obtain the information they need to address this issue or narrow down the cause for a fix? Or will 2020 and 2021 suffer from the same performance issues? Can we update this thread to include 2020 with "Illustrator CC 2019" as well?
I'm all for helping out the support team but we have already tried making a new Mac admin user, clearing preferences, toggling Illustrator and OS features on and off, and the laggy poor performance remains.
It would be nice to not continue to put up with this subpar performance 5-days a week, for another year, while paying full price for Adobe CC.

Adobe engineers maybe this video will help you out to figure out how to repair this bug. When resizing vector shapes you have some kind of latency and laggy feeling. I found solution to eliminate this feeling: catch both vectors or convert the shape to compound path:

I have made a windows comparing iMac 2019 maxed out version with Windows Machine on Ryzen 2600 and GTX 1070 wit the same amount of RAM (16gb) and on Windows Illustrator is quick, fast and smooth as f#^&@# :D.... but I don't like Windows OS and I have all ecosystem on Apple machines (iPhone, iPad Pro, MBP, iMac, Apple Watch) so its hard to me to switch to windows system.

I was wondering that the Adobe is more optimized on mbp 16 inch... and I want it to change my imac 2019 for the mbp 16-inch model but like I see the problem is with every mac ... wow :(
Adobe did you have problems with cooperating with Apple ? Most Adobe Live is done on macs ... I thought than on macs we get much better performance and stability over the windows machine...

Got my MacBook Pro 16. Maxed out just so it could handle AI and PS like nothing.... Oh well it's slower than my 4 years old windows laptop.

I have the same issues. And it doesn't matter if I work on standard computer or my new gaming Dell laptop (G3). Saving the file of just 60 MB takes a HALF OF AN HOUR and somehow makes Google Chrome slow as well. Even copying simple elements takes sometimes around a minute. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO WORK LIKE THAT.
What are we paying for? When it will be fixed, dear Illutrator team? -

I first noticed similar issues in October 2019. What is the status of this error and fix??! When trying to do some simple drawing the whole UI becomes unresponsive and the drag continues to scroll endlessly taking me off the document.
I tried to roll back to a last know useful version and I cannot get back past 23.1.1. Illustrator is completely unusable on my system now.
My specs are listed below.

I have a 2019 2.4 GHz 8-Core i9 Macbook Pro with 16G ram and notice the same laggy performance. What gives? Even on small files under 1 mb it takes a few to several seconds to save. Used to be instantaneous before on my 2011 model with CS6.

Hi this is update from me. Down here I put the list of the things which I have made to "improve" performance of laggy Illustrator on my Apple iMac 2019. Of course none of this attemps works and make nothing to improved performance. But I want to inform technicians and ppl who are responsible for optimizing software that there is something really bad underhood of this software...
1. 8 times (for about 3 - 4hrs) I was hanging with Adobe Support and I gave the remont control of my computer. The have killed all of the process of Adobe process in Activity Monitor and changed permissiona to the Adobe folders and reset the preferences of Illustrator to default. They made it at Mojave and Catalina as well. Adobe software was installed on clean os system. These attemps was made couple of time by different ppl in Adobe Support - of course nothing helped even tiny bit...
2. Make a second user (administrator) on Apple iMac - Nothing helped
3. Attached 2nd displa yvia USB C > Display port with native resolution 2560px x 1440px and make it a main screen i preferences. Nothing helped still illustraotr is laggy the same.
4. Turn off Dictation. Dictation is turned off by defualt inb my case but i disabled everything which is from dictation. - Nothing helped
5. Launch Illustrator i low resolution (right click on the app > get information > tick Open in Low resolution. Nothing Helped Illsutrator behvaiour is still the same
6. Turn off Turn on GPU acceleration... on CPU you can't even move the canvas... so you have to have turn on the GPU support but it still laggy when you are moving cavnas by hand tool and have a latency during resizing vector objects like rectangle, triangle, circle etc.
7. Try different resolution on iMac 5k screen - Nothing helped
8. Unplugged all USB peripherals - nothing helped
9. Change scratch disk to external SSD - Nothing Helped
10. Change UI scalling - Nothing Helped
11. Turning off "scale cursor proportionately" - Nothing Helped
12. Turning off antyaliasing - Nothing Helped
Adobe I'm not a stupid guy, which have a computer from parents and want to make some graphics... I;m a profesionalist and I'm working on Adobe products since CS2... I have a lot of computers and I know how this things work and what is good machine for my work. Tell my how this ne iMac 2019 with this hardware is working the same on Illustrator like on my old mac book pro 2009 (17-inch) model with c2d processor and 512mb graphics card and 8GB ram :) ... even is better because when you risize the vector objects doens;t have some latency... Why on Windows Machine (Windows 10 Pro 64bit) with ryzen 2600 on board and GTX1070 and 16GB RAM Illustrator is suuuper smooth and great optimized. I wish that Illustrator on my iMac was working the same... Don't blame Apple you know you have old engine like on premiere pro too, photoshop is also lagging but its ok (is a not disaster performance like on Illustrator or inDesign) but it's not so great like on Windows machine...
I'm here to help you and your customers to improve software becuase we are working on it, this is our whole tool to earn money. If our drillnot make holes quick or have a problem with it, we can finish work and we can't pay for this software...
This problem with performance was admit at the begining od 2019 in JANUARY ! It one year left and the problem is still happening. You saying you are working on in a this is priority... he ? Where this is priortity after one year... People are working like this way.. and try not to throw the computer outof the window, paying hard-earned money for hardware and software ... respect that and our time, nerves...
My Specs are:
iMac 5k Retina 2019
i9 3,6 GHZ 8 cores
16 GB RAM 2666mhz
Pro Vega 48 8GB RAM
1TB Internal SSD
macOS CatalinaIllustrator 24.0.1 but I was testing also older version (wiuth Mojave and Catalina) and the behaviour is the same.
So Adobe this is not a generic bug or something I lost a lot of time to try different scenerios... I;m a freelancer and I;m loosing money If I'm not working... I have tried this all
