Illustrator CC 2019 is very slow and laggy
I'm using a Mac OS 10.13 Intel Core i7 16 GB. Ever since I updated to the CC 2019, illustrator became laggy and slow. The other adobe apps worked fine after the update. I saw here that I should try turning the dictation off but that didn't help.
Everything in illustrator is slow now. And if I use the blend tool a lot in one document the eyedropper option in the gradient window becomes unavailable. Everything even if it's as simple as moving from one art board to the next or zooming in/out is lagging

How are we suppose to bill our customers?
Actual work : 2.5 hours
Lag time : 6 hoursAll of a sudden any project I tackle takes 3x the time normally required to complete.
...Or are supposed to buy extra computers and software to work on several project simultaneously?
Would love to know how to handle this because, to my customers, I look like I'm wasting time or billing for time I didn't spend working.

+1
It fells like I'm back to 1994 with 8Mb of ram and a 512Kb video card.
I'm on CC 2020 and it is insanely slow, impossible to use. Click a tool, wait a few seconds, do your thing, wait a few seconds. This makes no sense.

See when you move the solution into a closed communication like this, it becomes unavailable to other users with similar problems. This is bad forum management. People six years for now are going to be combing through the backlogs here looking for solutions, and nothing is more frustrating than running into this.

It is insanely slow for me as well. Using a document that has barely anything in it, it takes a few seconds to zoom in and out. At first I thought it was having too many fonts installed, so I uninstalled a bunch but nothing changed. This is ridiculous Adobe, please fix this! It is really hurting my workflow by adding unnecessary time waiting around for things to load.

Not a fix but somewhat of a workaround: Preferences > Performance > and then I checked GPU Performance. Since then it has been working pretty smoothly.

I'm adding to the list of complaints. I can't work. It takes a few seconds until the illustrator decides to do something for me. Impossible to use it.

This is insane... just tried out the new 2020 release that came out yesterday and somehow, miraculously, they managed to make it about 20% slower than the last maintenance release!
How on earth is this even possible? What the **** is going on at Adobe? There are hundreds of people in this thread alone complaining of this problem and absolutely nothing.
I thought there was maybe a glimmer of hope when they said they'd reach out to try and figure out what was going on. Only problem is, it looks like whoever from Adobe is contacting me is very much 100% outsourced 'tech support' from over 12,000km away, so surprise surprise it's quite hard to schedule a meeting time that makes logistical sense in such disparate timezones. How about someone from the actual Illustrator team in Seattle or SF reach out and maybe take the pulse of their frustrated users here.
I think we should all start reaching out to Adobe and request refunds on these many, many months of unusable software they've been shipping us that we've been paying handily for each and every month.

Just adding my complaints to the list, same issues with AI and PS!
I had to reuse the old versions! -

This is really really really bad. Something is messed up, and all these comments confirm it.
Even before the Catalina upgrade, CC 2019 was slow... the most basic actions are like molasses.

Adobe is designing its software for mainframe users. Too bad there aren't many of those around. Reverting back to CS6 and migrating to Affinity in the near future.

Adding my voice to the long list of people complaining here. Catalina and illustrator 2019... dear god upgrading was an error. Can't do anything without beachballs - it's ridiculous!!!! Especially considering the horrendous amount of cash we fork over every month i'd expect the thing to actually... you know... work. I think people who are having to put up with this right now and want to cancel shouldn't be charged for the remainder of their subscription because seriously, how can you charge people for something that doesn't work through no fault of ours? For anyone reading this and contemplating updating - DON'T!

This is actually quite a vindicating thread to have found. The slowness of this software right now is just embarrassing and has cost me more time looking at the beach ball of death than i care to remember in the past couple of months.
Not very good for myself and likeminded professionals that pay good money for a vital tool in our kit bags.
Get it sorted please Adobe boffins.

Not that it matters, but adding my name to the list of people finding Illustrator laggy. It has been for two years. I'm sick of it now.

The new illustrator is a clown show. I can't even select a simple rectangle without at 1-2 sec. lag. incredibly frustrating. I'm very glad I kept my purchased cs6 because it blows CC out of the water, especially performance wise. CS6 is as fast as it always has been. I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHEN THEY SWITCHED TO SUBSCRIPTION ONLY. A bunch of clowns pushing a clown product. When I do need to upgrade, which won't be for a long time because cs6 does everything I need, I will be UPGRADING to Affinity.

Even Photoshop is slow like the response of Adobe to these issues. I can't work with Illustrator anymore.. I switched to Affinity, it runs smoother. You just move the cursor and it start lagging AF.
Illustrator & Photoshop are completely useless. Is a shame the media industry depends of this company. I wish I can cancel the subscription without paying a termination fee.
