Illustrator CC 2019 is very slow and laggy
I'm using a Mac OS 10.13 Intel Core i7 16 GB. Ever since I updated to the CC 2019, illustrator became laggy and slow. The other adobe apps worked fine after the update. I saw here that I should try turning the dictation off but that didn't help.
Everything in illustrator is slow now. And if I use the blend tool a lot in one document the eyedropper option in the gradient window becomes unavailable. Everything even if it's as simple as moving from one art board to the next or zooming in/out is lagging

Unusably slow here as well. Not sure what guys at Adobe do but performance of AI and AE are going downhill with every update. I can literally feel that I'm getting old while waiting for app response.

AI has been laggy but today was unusable...crashed twice, kept freezing when trying to move or select anything. Deadlines coming up and I am at the breaking point. Adobe please fix this issues everyone is having!

+1 for this issue. I have a Windows10 i7 8700k @ 3.7ghz with 64gigs of ram but running the new illustrator feels like I'm back on Windows 95... I held off for months before upgrading but I did it this week and after 1 day in the studio I downgraded back to v23.0.6..... I have work to do and adobe's new tools aren't up to the challenge yet I'm afraid.

Same issue! Bought a brand new Dell XPS 15 2019 model, and the illustrator lags so much. Zooming and moving around has become frustrating and saving / exporting a file takes forever. Sometimes the illustrator freezes for 5 min before managing to save or export. Never had this problem with illustrator before. Im using the 2019 Illustrator.

I don't believe how slow this new illsutrator is.. and that they have bugs that slows down workfow when info panel and rulers are turned on.. I honestly don''t believe it :) looks like a joke. I use PC with 24 RAMS two SSD-S 1TB +500G on i7 processor.

Didn't read all the comments, but I see a terrible slowdown in Illustrator 2019 while the INFO PANEL is open (even on an updated today -Oct 22nd 2019- version 23.1) - when closed, performance looks like solid 60 fps but still... with occasional hickups.
Hope it helps to pin it down and Adobe team catches this, probably silly GUI bug.
BTW: the same thing doesn't appear to affect CS6 (16.0.3 64bit). -

Same problem here, new Macbook, high ram and a really struggling to do anything at the speed I used to work. Costing us all a fortune for a second rate version too.

Way tooo slow! Impossible to use! Good thing I'm only trying the product.
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz with 10,0 GB (RAM) and HDSSD - for sure my machine isn't the issue. -

I've just upgraded to Catalina and can confirm the performance is still worse in Illustrator 2019 compared to 2018. The easiest way to recreate this issue is to take a larger amount of text, outline it for many anchors to be selected and compare how both versions perform. I'd be interested to compare as far back as 2017 or CS6 because it feels the performance has not improved at all with each version.
If you try to marquee select this text in both versions using the direct selection tool you will immediately notice the lag. The selections do not necessarily need to be that complex either to start noticing the poor performance. Another way to slow down each action is by having overprint preview enabled, which is a pain when trying to do any prepress work with traps/overprints. This performance slow down is still noticeable in Illustrator 2018 when overprint preview is enabled as well.

GPU Performance Enabled in Illustrator. App is too slow when disabled.
Not using Microsoft Office. Microsoft Remote Desktop is the only Microsoft App installed as far as I know. -

And can something be done about CEPHtmlengine? Error messages keep popping up that it is frozen, and keeping apps waiting to function. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.

Kind of boring, but same problem here. I have been using Illustrator daily since 1989. it has become terrible now because it is way too slow. We don’t want fancy features if we can’t do a simple thing anymore. Illustrator became unusable after upgrading to macOS 10.14.6 and AI 23.1.1. When I try to save a file with a bunch of shadows in it it slows down everything on the computer till half way and then freeze completely.
I downgraded to CC 2017 now which is a little better. Never have had Dictation on. Tried GPU on and off.MacBookPro 11,3 15" Mid 2014

I just bought a brand new, top of the line macbook pro to run illustrator on. I do 95% of my work in AI. I figured my old laptop was just slow and old. I was wrong. This program has become unusable. I'm going to try and revert. AI hasn't added a useful feature in 10 years anyway.

Do we get a discount while this is being fixed? I can't use Illustrator anymore, it is way too slow. I'm trying to piece things together using Photoshop vector tools.

Having this problem as well. 23.1 on Mac is so incredible laggy and slow it's practically unusable. Adobe get your **** together already how many times does this need to happen?? Get a more diverse set of beta testers or something this is really unacceptable in this day and age.
**Edit update** 23.1.1 doesn't fix this. Still just as slow and laggy as before.

I was having troubles with Illustrator saving since updating to Mojave 10.14.6 mid September.
I have updated my Mac with this OS update and it seems to have cured my mac https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2011?locale=en_US

Reverted illustrator version back to v23.0.2 - That seems to speed things up again.
Hopefully the bugs will be addressed in a fix in a near future. -

I don't think Adobe gives a **** about it's users! They have us over a barrel because what else are we going to use. I'm so sick of losing time every time there is an update. I can't do anything in Illustrator after I updated earlier this week. It lags on everything. Select a shape, wait. Create new layer, wait. Type, wait . What the ****!
