Was fixed when doing what's told...got my reading glasses on now .
Changed the Align to option in the top bar located just to the left of the Align-possibilities

Align is not working - still...

2 or more objects will not align to left
2 or more will not align to top

We were promised in a mail from Srishti Bali (Adobe Support Community) that this would be fixed in the version 24.2.1, but after updating to that version, this item was not fixed

Just ran the update to 24.2.1 but still not working!!!

@James Allen: have you updated to v24.2.1 yet? that has fixed the issue for me.

@Varun: thanks for getting on this fairly quickly. It was pretty annoying, and I combed through all the settings and preferences to find a way to turn it off, not realizing it was a bug.

Simple object alignment tools not working in 2020 Illustrator as they have for over 20 years prior. Embarrassing.

With each update Adobe gives us a few bugs more or less annoying.

This serious bug makes working on layout in Ai nearly impossible.
Guess it's back to CS6 or brushing up on In Design for now. Please fix this!

@John I second the bug fix for the Distribute Space issue that John pointed out. This has been an issue for some time now where the spacing input field does not become active.

Another problem with the Align that has been going on for a while is the Align Distribute Spacing window has to be open for the input to be active. I use to be able to select objects then open the window and the input was active, now for about a year when I select objects then open the Align Window the input is not active and does not allow for input, causing the user to deselect the object and reselect it to make the input active. I have had this problem on Windows and Mac. Very time consuming for these new problems. It seems like it would be better to go back to older versions of Illustrator to work faster and more efficiently.

Just want to join the crowd in saying that this alignment bug is extremely annoying and a time consuming problem. Please fix it!!
