Can't finish previewing. Could not complete the requested operation.
I applied a pattern to a stroke by accident and received this error. I'm using v25.0.1 on a PC with 16 gb RAM and a dedicated graphics card.

2019 CC always appear attached and then auto quit the software. I have never seen this in 2018CC, how I can back to use 2018CC , I'm using creative cloud to update 2019CC, it's rubbish for me.

It's also on Windows 10 with more than enough RAM (128 GB), dual Xeon, dual nvidia GTX 1080ti.

It's real bad... running an late 2015 iMac 27" with Mohave, 32 GB RAM. Can't even work in a simple two-color logo .ai file with a few vector shapes in it for more than a few minutes without the "cant finish previewing" error and subsequent crash.

Same issue. I thought it seemed to be happening more when working with gradients, but it seems to be doing it all the time now.

Same issue here on Win10. Even tiny files will eventually trigger it.

I ended up just uninstalling v23 and reinstalling v22.1 this morning through Creative Cloud app. So far, has been stable all day.
For all those working on deadlines, this might be the best route until another patch is created to address the issue.

Just to note... I wish I would have seen all these complaints before upgrading! This issue was reported back in March, and has not yet been resolved?!

Exact same problem on an Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7, 16 GB ram,, macOS Mojave 10.14.
Constant crashing. Switches to viewframe view and says, "Cannot finish previewing", happens on very small, simple documents. Also, since upgrading, the "drop shadow" effect is slower to render, and also seems to render at a lower resolution than previous versions.

Same problem with me, really annoying situation.

Anon, read the comments. I've been directly working with the Adobe team working on this. Sending them information and having screen sharing sessions for them to get to the bottom of it. They have posted, but it's not always clear when you first visit the page.

Can anyone from Adobe confirm that they are working on a fix for this? This seems like it's a big issue for many users and it's frustrating that you haven't posted anything. Makes me not want to use Adobe Creative Cloud at all. I know some bugs are hard to anticipate but 152 users have submitted comments on this bug so I think it deserves some attention.

Since updating to 2019, this problem started to occur. "Can't create preview (not enough memory, RAM)" and Illustrator switches to artwork view. Tip: quickly save your work at this point, because the inevitable crash happens within a minute!
I work under MacOS Mojave, 10.14

Since upgrading to 2019 I am having the same problem too when working in Illustrator.
My specs for my mac is as followed:
mac0S High Sierra
10.13.6
Mac Pro (Late 2013)
3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5
12 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
AMD FirePro D300 2048The Illustrator file is 4.4MB and there is just one PSD image and the rest is vector based. I am working then the warning box comes up with 'Can't finish Previewing'. I click Ok and my artboard turns grey.
I use the keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out and my artboard is still grey. I go to the View menu and click on GPU Preview but nothing happens.
I quit out of Illustrator and restart it and open up the same file (which is the recovery file), Save As. The artwork opens on Preview on CPU but on one occasion it still had the Outline preview.
This has happened about four-five times since the update.

Lost SO much work because of this (yes, I forgot to save, but Illustrator is supposed to account for that). Virtually unusable. Loved the new features, sucks I'm paying for something that doesn't work correctly. Will downgrade to CC2018 for now. Fix it quick!

After running the Illustrator program install/update three days ago, when I'm drawing shapes, Illustrator keep telling me that it cannot keep previewing the document and converts it to outline view. I have totally quite Illustrator and re-open it to restore preview functionality.
