View Using GPU Gets Greyed Out Permanently with Outline Mode
Hello, with fresh preferences, 'View using GPU' and scrubby zoom are enabled in Illustrator. if I turn on Outline Mode, Illustrator loses connection with my GPU. The 'View using GPU' option becomes greyed out and never restores. In order to get it back I have to delete my preferences. Here is my system info:
Illustrator 25.1
OS: Windows 10
GPU: 2 x NVIDIA Titan Black
RAM: 64 GB Memory
GPU Driver: Driver 460.89
Display: ASUS PQ321Q 4K

hello everyone, I shared my experience on another post and I'm writing it here maybe it helps someone. I've had this bug for years in illustrator, and in my specific case it was related to my personal monitor profile. The problem disappeared completely when I created a new profile (in my case I used Xrite's iProfiler to create a new one). Most likely in many of the cases reported here the problem is the same and is related to a custom color profile. Obviously I know that it is not a valid solution for everyone but I repeat in my case it solved the problem. If you use a personal color profile try to make a new one or use a system one to see if the problem is solved.

STILL NOT FIXED!
Illustrator: 29.0
Macbook Pro: M1 Max
64GB RAM
Plenty of SSD/HD space.
MacOS 15.0.1Let's see how many years this bug stays around. I'm betting at least one more, but probably 3 more years.

STILL a problem. MacOS Sonoma on M1 Mac mini. As a different user pointed out on a different bug listing it depends if a vanilla display profile provided by MacOS is used VS a color calibration profile for the screen that I created (I use display cal + I1 display pro).
So for default display profile activating rulers does not break GPU preview but for other profiles it does.

PROBLEM STILL EXSITS:
Just updated to Illustrator: 27.8.1

Same.
Illustrator crashes almost every time I switch to outline mode, and when it doesn't crash (which is only 10% of the time) , I lose GPU view.Illustrator 27.7
Macbook Pro: M1 Max
64GB RAM
Plenty of SSD/HD space.
MacOS 13.4.1Steps I have taken:
- Reinstalled 27.7 nuking all prefs — seems fine
- Set UI to NOT Scaled
- Set Canvas Colour to: WHITE
- Turned on Grid
- Turned on Outline view — CRASHES!!
- Set Canvas Colour to: "Match Brightness" - Seems fine. Also tested in - Reinstalled 27.4 as well, both after nuking all prefs.
Seems to be related to the GRID being ON, and the Canvas Colour setting to "White".

Just opening a file and "View Using GPU" is greyed out at preview mode. Some other files work. I think it has to do with the size of the artboards, at least at the opening.
Didn't notice it in previous versions. -

Same here. Impossible to work with. As soon as I zoom, the canvas flashes and GPU acceleration turns itself off. After a while, it even keeps turning itself off directly after starting Illustrator. Without acceleration, everything is super slow on my 4k screen and the zoom tool sucks (and lags like crazy).
I think the main trigger is for this is the presence of raster effects in a file. I have one file which I simply cannot open without the GPU renderer ******** itself. But after removing any raster effects from the file, it seems to be working.

This issue seems to have gotten worse with the last update. Reopening the file fixes it until you start zooming around again. This is a huge time burglar, and we have deadlines. Worse with hi-res bitmap images.

This bug is super annoying. It makes it almost impossible to work with illustrator. It happens mostly when I'm working on a CMYK mode

I remember this issue was resolved in past versions of illustrator, but not sure why they bring this back in the latest release.

Same on 26.3.1 on M1 2021
Illustrator can't handle outline mode and disables GPU.
How is it that adobe makes illustrator worse by each update? how can it be that outline mode (the lightest possible way to view vectors) completely renders the application useless?
RIP my time, energy and mental health troubleshooting, reading forums and ******* head against the wall

Same here. But at least was able to reset the GPU support by restarting the software. But it's still "pain in the a**".

This still isn't fixed in 26.2.1 and despite all support articles claiming it's resolved. Here's a video with a view of all settings, activity logs, etc. Please fix this, as it really makes Illustrator unusable: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBcTKuZ-lQs

If you have GPU Tuning Software like RivaTuner/ Afterburner / GpuTweak, you must shut it down first and then restar Illustrator.

That is not the first time I get annoyed from Illustrator and search relief in the uservoice.
But it's certainly the first time that I read there is a patch waiting for me in CC that fixes my current problem.
Well played, Adobe... Keep it up. ;)

I just installed the 26.2.1 update and it only fixed the issue with changing to outline mode. But this bug still occurs if I turn on the rulers or attempt to edit the artboard dimensions.
I just did a few tests by creating new files in both CYMK and RGB.
The bug still has a permanent effect to the file. But I have discovered that if I save it to my Creative Cloud storage and then immediately download via a browser the file will start using the GPU again, until I need to edit the artboards or turn on the rulers.macOS 11.6.5
