  1. Give Pattern swatch an indicator icon in the Swatches panel

An often made mistake is that users drag a rectangle, filled with a color to the swatches panel, thinking that they added a new color swatch. In reality they created a pattern. Looking at the Swatches panel it is sometimes difficult to see the difference. In the attached example it is impossible to see which of the two green swatches is a color swatch or a pattern swatch. It would be good to have an indicator for pattern swatches, like spot or global color swatches. This is important when users want to to create a new pattern, fill…

  2. Add Black and White color chips in Color Picker dialog in Color Models mode

For some reason, the Color Picker dialog is the default way of setting a color in several color induced effects: Drop Shadow, Inner and Outer Glow.

Most of times these effects are used, we need to toggle between black and white. These are more or less OK to pick quickly, if we change the mode of the dialog to Color Swatches.

But each time this dialog is called when editing a color for the effect, the dialog open in the first mode, Color Models.
And to set black or white in this mode we need to click the spectrum…

  3. Force swatches when directly opening an image

When we drag-n-drop / open an image into Illustrator, a new document is created with an artboard created to fit the image (when possible), and the image is put there.

The Swatches panel in this case is empty (as well as Brushes, Symbols, Graphics Styles).

While it makes sense (image have no presets stored within), for some users it’s extremely irritating — they treat this workflow as a way to quickly create a new document based on an image, with the fitting document profile used (even though if they have no idea about document profiles — thanks to the modern…

  4. Identify and name color swatches with human-readable names

There is a very handy tool in Yandex.ru search engine, named 'Колдунщик' (literally 'Sorcererer', with triple 'er').
The way it works with colors is briefly described there (in Russian):
    https://yandex.ru/blog/company/94762

What it does is binds color names with color values. Some are quite standard, 'light blue', some are familiar, like 'bordeaux' (but every man think of different shade or even tone, speaking of it), some are very uncommon, like 'The color of the thigh of a frightened nymph' (it is a real colorhttps://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuisse_de_Nymphe).

What if AI could name colors in a same way, when swatch…

  5. small swatches in library

Need the option to view smaller thumbnail size swatches/icons in Libraries. There's too much scrolling to reach the end of the palette. Thanks.

    Save those elements:
    1- Symbols
    2- Color Swatches
    3- Type Fonts
    to the cloud libraries.
and drag to use it as a shared elements in our designs...

  7. Hue cube / Live Color Picker

Would it be possible to import the Hue cube from Photoshop when choosing color? MagicPicker plugin won't work when selecting gradient colors (it will just replace the gradient completely) and Color Picker doesn't allow for real-time changes, you need to select the color and press OK to see the change. Color tab works perfectly, but the available color palette is impractical to use. I have no clue why you are not using the same setup as in Photoshop, where the Color tab looks exactly like the Color Picker. People have been complaining about this for 4 years now.

  8. Why can't I save Swatches in L*a*b* format except as Spot Color?

Why can't I save Swatches in Lab* format except as Spot colors?
This is unique to Adobe Illustrator, unfortunately, and such a thorn in the side of a device-independent color management workflow. Please resolve.

  9. Simple Color Swap in entire document by selecting two global swatches

It would be wonderful if possible to swap global swatches by selecting two swatches and swap them in the entire document. The same way it it already possible to merge them.

  10. Add a search bar in the Swatches panel for color books

I would like to be able to search swatch books from the Swatches menu. This could be implemented globally for various search items, menus, tools, etc. (Similar to Photoshop's new search function.)

  11. color swatch meta fields assignment feature

please add a few extra fields to give greater depth to the swatches
i noticed that you have nicely chosen names like history etc for the theme swatch libraries yet when i go to create a new swatch the panel does not give me the option to attach a meta descriptor tag cloud to the color swatch, think about how this feature works on full images in the bridge. how excellent this would be at the swatch level. we could search for swatches by meta tag, i could see a dedicated program for using a eye dropper tool and assigning…

  12. Allow gradient swatches to be added to CC library

It's great to have colors in the cc library but why can't those colors be gradients too? Please allow us to add gradient swatches to the cc library. Thanks

We have released the support for Gradient swatches in CC library with our latest release - v29.3

You can select the gradient swatch in swatches panel and add it to CC Library through the button on the bottom bar in the panel. You can also select any object which has gradient applied and add that gradient to CC Library through Add Elements from the Libraries panel and choose Fill Gradient from the drop-down menu.

Please update to this version from your Creative Cloud Desktop application and let us know your feedback.

  13. Allow to snap gradient sliders to integer values

    I'm huge fan of snapping.
I snap tabs to units, I snap to grid, I snap almost everything — this allow me to narrow my design workflow and keep artwork organized.
Not everyone does need this, but I do.

I suffer from absence of snapping for gradient sliders.
I wish I can move one and make it snap at 40, by eye, and not 40.73 and then correct this value by hand.
Please, make an option to snap sliders to integer values.

  14. Make Recent Color section as in Photoshop

It would be nice to have a thing similar to Photoshop strip of recently used colors, with an ability to quickly convert one or several into proper swatches.
Probably a function that just add all used color into swatches automatically can be useful also, with a clear signaling it is active, to prevent accidental swatches bloating.

  15. Show global swatch triangle marker in Fill Stroke Control when a global swatch is selected

Global swatches are marked with a white triangle in the bottom right corner of the swatch. Book colors also have a black dot in this triangle.

These triangles are displayed everywhere swatches are used in UI: Appearance, Properties, Control... But for some reason they are omitted in tool panels, in Fill Stroke controls (and also Gradient).

I personally see no reason why. Sure users would benefit from knowing exactly if a color is global or not when they see the color chip anywhere.

  16. Recolor Artwork Swatch Replacement

I would like a simple interface where I can see what colors are being used in my document and have the ability to select colors and replace them with swatches (either from the swatches panel, a cc library, or by entering values). The current process of merging/replacing swatches in the swatch panel is time consuming and frustrating. Seems like the recolor artwork panel should have this functionality. I don't want to scale tints or use color groups. A use case for this is making sure an illustration only uses brand colors, or if you need to…

You can do this using the Recolor panel (the full one, that is under Advanced Options). It’s quite straightforward, although not obvious.

Double-click the small color chip under in the New column, and the Color Picker dialog appear. Then click the Color Swatches button and choose a swatch you need. No hustle with the scaling of tints or putting your swatches in color groups, it’s that simple.

  17. Color Picker live preview!

When i choose color with color picker there is no live preview. I have to click OK to view selected color and if I don't like it, have to do all this again. Do it as it is in Photoshop.

  18. Ability to change the default swatches

I'd really like to open up a new document with a predetermined default swatch selection. I know this can be done by saving swatches and saving your workspace but if I want to add new colors, I can't to the saved swatch window.

  19. Edit Colors panel - drag and drop from document swatches

    1. In the "Edit Colors" panel, users can already select a document's color palette. However, it would be incredibly helpful to allow dragging and dropping individual colors from the document's palette directly into the active color set of an object.

    2. Currently, users have to manually input color values (e.g., RGB), which is time-consuming. Adding a drag-and-drop feature would make this process more efficient and user-friendly, greatly improving the workflow for designers.

Thank you for considering this enhancement!

  20. Merge swatches with right-click

In InDesign you can right-click in the swatches panel and select 'Merge Swatches' (among many other things).

In Illustrator there is no right-click menu at all, you have to click the fly-out.

Adding the right-click menu (or even the ability add a keyboard shortcut to things in the fly-out) would be helpful as we get a lot of files with duplicate colors or need to convert odd mixes/incorrect names to true Pantones so our rips will recognize them. We do a lot of merging.

    Thank you!
