1. DATA MERGE . File Names from CSV

   REPEATEDLY NOTICED NOT YET AVAILABLE FEATURE
   It would be tremendously helpful, if we could name exported files via the CSV-file used for data merge, so we can have actual full names, instead „Data Set 1“, … „Data Set 217“.

   ISSUE
   Data Merge exports are being exported without customized file names, which is a major time issue, when dealing with large scale data merge exports.

   SUGGESTED SOLUTION
   Giving users in the VARIABLES -> VARIABLE OPTIONS menu the option to assign „FILE NAME“ to a variable via TYPE, and make this accessible to the ACTIONS when exporting via BATCH.

2. Industrial feedback

   My customers REQUIRE all our reruns of our labels to be the same. The color, the fonts, everything. Continuous reissuing of new versions of Illustrator makes this very time consuming and difficult. Most important, often our pressmen (with 50+ years of experience between the two) will not know something has changed until printed.

   An industrial press uses about 12 feet of material before the first label even prints, making this a HUGE material and time waster in a busy print house.

   Either fix your colors once and stop or tell us PRIOR to release of the changes so that we can set our machines. Once it's installed, we are screwed.

4. Enhancing Symbols in Adobe Illustrator

   Dear Adobe Illustrator Team,

   I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my appreciation for the incredible work you've done with Adobe Illustrator and to request a feature enhancement that I believe would greatly benefit the user experience. Specifically, I would like to propose improvements to the Symbols feature, focusing on the ability to change the values of instances, such as text or color, and the inclusion of multiple predefined values, such as night and day themes. Additionally, I would like to suggest improvements to the 9-slice feature, making it more responsive and adaptable to different sizes, similar to Figma components.

   Symbols play a crucial role in streamlining workflows and maintaining consistency within design projects. However, the current limitations in Adobe Illustrator prevent users from easily customizing instances of symbols beyond their placement. By allowing users to modify values of instances, such as text or color, within a symbol, you would empower designers to create dynamic and adaptable designs without sacrificing the benefits of symbol-based workflows. This feature enhancement would significantly improve the efficiency and flexibility of working with symbols, enabling designers to iterate and experiment more effectively.

   Furthermore, introducing support for multiple predefined values within symbols would be a game-changing addition. For instance, having the ability to define night and day themes within a single symbol would allow designers to seamlessly switch between different visual styles, catering to various contexts and requirements. This feature would greatly streamline the design process, eliminating the need for duplicate symbols and reducing the overall complexity of managing design variations.

   In addition to symbol enhancements, I would like to suggest improvements to the 9-slice feature in Adobe Illustrator. Figma components have set a standard for responsive and adaptable design elements, and it would be fantastic to see similar capabilities in Adobe Illustrator. By enhancing the 9-slice feature to automatically adjust and adapt to different sizes, designers would have greater control over scaling and responsiveness, ensuring consistent results across various screen resolutions and devices. This improvement would tremendously benefit UI/UX designers who rely on Adobe Illustrator for their design workflows.

   I genuinely believe that implementing these enhancements to the Symbols feature, along with improving the 9-slice functionality, would elevate Adobe Illustrator's capabilities to new heights. These additions would empower designers to create more efficiently, adapt to changing requirements effortlessly, and produce designs that are both visually stunning and highly functional.

5. stroke width tool more defined errors with conflicting properties.

   There are several things that do not allow the use of the "stroke width tool", like brushes, or having the stroke non aligned to the center... but right now the tool gives no hint about what is the issue, and why is not working.
   What about giving you a more specific error, and showing the option to dissable this conflicting property. (if you cannot work around the stroke width in this circumstances.)

6. "Select Same Fill/Opacity/Appearance/etc" in Freeform Gradients

   I work in printing, we just got 15 files in using freeform gradients where the majority of the gradient is 80% opacity and the edges of the shapes are 10% opacity. After printing samples, the customer has decided to change the 80% to 100%. Normally, this is very quickly executed with solid colors and within gradient meshes by selecting one object or point and choosing "select same opacity" from the menu. But this feature is not available in the freeform gradients. I now have the task of individually changing the opacity on over 1500 points across all of the files. With how popular the freeform gradients are becoming, I expect this issue may arise more often as many artists will need to perform minor tweaks which should take literally seconds, but will turn into multiple hours of tedious work. Not to mention that the opacities are similar enough that it leaves a large margin of error if any of the color points are missed. because of human error. Please let the computer do the dirty work!

   You can adjust spacing between a selection of characters with a hotkey Cmd/Ctrl + Opt/Alt + K (which focuses the input) and then Arrow keys.

8. Swatches panel easier cleanup/delete and Recolor Artwork tool

   • Have delete options for swatch library in drop down or drag/drop to trash.

   • Enable delete option in user defined menu to clean up old/saved swatches no longer needed and organize alphabetically or enable us to drag/drop folder within panels for easier regrouping.

   • Also allow swatches folders to drag/drop to other open windows/working open files.

   • Allow us to customize our main Swatch panel without having to delete the AI standard swatches every time (but not delete them either just customize or minimize/hide the preset colors).

   • Recolor tool: enable a way to select a recolor option (or tag multiple options during scrolling) without losing your place or having to restart/re-do the turning on and off of selected colors bars each time. Maybe be able to checkmark image options that it stores in side panel so you're able to go through the whole recolor options without start/stop/reopen/redo etc... then be able to work off your new/saved options. And PLEASE add a go back button to recolor.

   A lot of time is wasted in both issues. It's cluttering up my workspace and not user friendly to clean out my swatches and organize as needed.
   Recolor tool is a great function but slows down in the usage as to have to save a new image, you lose the original and to get back to continuing you have to restart the whole process, especially when choosing to not recolor some colors... having to redo all that is time consuming. Adding a 'back' button will also help all of us who click too fast and skip over a great color option and frustrated to not be able to go back.

   • Also don't freeze the screen when recolor panel opens. Sometimes you need to zoom in to see colors better or movie images around and not being able to have access to moving anything makes one have to start all over, or take extra time making sure your screen is the ideal size/layout before starting recolor. Or make the recolor a large window which puts the image inside the window for easier access to zoom, scroll and interact with image.

   • When you open recolor and use the magnifier to see where each color is located, I can't find a way to get out of that mode, unless I hit the recolor scroll which rearranges my color options. Make it so unclicking pops you back out to where you were wo changing image.

   • When reducing colors in Recolor window (as used in patterns often) it'd be nice for it to update the number of colors live. Currently we have to keep track in our minds, accept and close the window. Reselect image and reopen recolor to know how many colors we are now at. A live updated number would be great or an easier method than having to reselect/reopen just to see the new number. Or perhaps, add a numerical value to the sidebar swatch panel on the side of the recolor window, to show the live change in number of colors during combining/reducing of colors.

9. I want the behavior to be the same

   For Japanese version of Illustrator, I want Indesign to have the same selection range when adjusting the line spacing.

   I sometimes get confused because each behaves differently in the same selection.

10. ability to escape when Illustrator "hangs"

    Please give one the ability to get out of a "hang" without force quitting the app. Escape key would be a great place!

11. arrows not working (left, up, right, down)

    My navigation arrows aren't working for moving objects incrementally and using along with the shift key to make larger incremental movements of objects.

12. Save and load a set of layers like paragraph or character styles

    When working within a specific company's branding guidelines, EVERY document I create has the same set of layers: background, background key art, copy, brand, foreground key art, etc. It would be so great and really streamline doc creation and continuity to be able to load a "set" of layers in a new or open doc.

    I've tried using the template feature, but each doc could be a different set of specs and it would be most beneficial to be able to just bulk-create layers or load a "Company X Brand Guide" layer set.

13. Scale with constrained proportions

    Give me a key combo with the scale tool to constrain proportions.

    The diagonal motion doesn't cut it. I'm doing very detailed work and there is no indicator if the proportions are actually locked or not. Very frustrating.

14. symmetry

    This is more of a feature request for Project Gemini rather than Illustrator but I made the mistake of assuming that "Photoshop for the iPad" would obviously come equipped with the symmetry tool available in Project Gemini but I understand now the consequences of assuming. I tend to use Adobe Draw for most the majority of my work for those nice hard illustrator friendly vector lines. I often try and just draw half of a character and then duplicate flip and merge together but this never really works quite the way I'd like it to. So, basically what I'm trying to say is that it would be super awesome great if the symmetry tool were available inside of Project Gemini with both vector and rasterized brushes. Pretty please with sugar on top?

15. Add a Delayed Render toggle and Render button to reduce re-renders

    Performance suggestion: as a panel, every adjustment causes the object to re-render, so fine-tuning the settings takes a long time. Maybe put a Render button on bottom with an on/off toggle switch labeled something like Delayed Render. Kind of like how Excel does it with Pivot Table updates.

16. Text does not change the size of it when increased the size of the text box anymore

    Since the updates, the text size does not increase proportionally (holding the SHIFT Key down), or non-proportionally when re-scaled the text box, I loved that feature and I'd request you to bring that feature back.

17. "Alternate" Grid by keyboard shortcut

    In technical drawings (but not only), sometimes we temporarily need a finer grid (more subdivisions) just for a couple of work steps, after which we return to the original (larger) grid.
    It is painful that for this we always have to go and change Illustrator Preferences (back and forth).

    Feature suggestion:
    In Illustrator Preferences make it possible to define two different grid subdivision values: "default" and "alternate".
    The "alternate" grid is such that it becomes active immediately when holding a specific keyboard combination (e.g. ALT key) while drawing.
    As soon as the keyboard key combination is released, the grid returns to the "default" number of subdivisions.

    I have ideas to improve the tools in Adobe Illustrator or to create an independent application to write arabic calligraphy to make a wonderfull peices of art using arabic calligraphic letters.

    Also i have a library for more than 100 vector of this type of art which done by Adobe Illustrator, i held an exhibition in Amman-Jordan.

    I hope to show this art (calligraphics) through Adobe, this type of art collabroation of hand drawn and brushes in Adobe Illustrator.

19. Why was the copy and paste function forcibly changed?

    Why do you guys change my personal settings?

    Please don't change my settings under the pretext of updating. Do you know how disturbed we are when arbitrarily changing the settings of existing users to receive new users?

    Until yesterday, the option key + arrow direction was copy. But now I've changed the option key + arrow to change the line and space of the letter. What are you doing? I was annoyed because I kept updating like this before, but I can't stand it. Why do you change the existing user's setting so recklessly?

    Do you know how long this delays existing users' working hours? Are you listening to the user's voice?

    Alt/Option+arrow changes kerning when a selection has only text objects within and makes a copy when you have a textless selection.
    In much older versions pressing these for mixed selections (text + non-text) used to change kerning too, but do make a copy now instead, but no changes were made recently to revert it.

20. Add a "Ctrl +E" to illustrator for quick export

    InDesign has a "Ctrl+ E" for quick export instead of going down the menu bar and selecting it. Can illustrator put in a "Ctrl + E" for export. this is a annoyance since I'm exporting to jpg and tif formats all of the time from Illustrator for photoshop image adjustment

    Illustrator allows to assign your own custom hotkeys to most of the command from menus via Edit > Keyboards Shortcuts dialog.
