Illustrator - Text format
Hi,
This may be a problem specific to biologists, but I often have imported figures with text that has to be partially italicized (species names mostly). It would be very helpful if text formatting commands could be repeated by a keyboard shortcut - preferably Ctrl/Cmd Y so my fingers wouldn't have to learn anything new.
It would also be useful if Find and Replace included a formatting option, so all instances of a particular string could be bolded or italicized or whatever.

Don’t drop the current character selection in text when I switch between documents
If you select a portion of a text in Illustrator and switch to a different app and back — the selection stays in place.
But if I switch between Illustrator documents/tabs — the selection gets lost. This makes editing of two or more documents at the same time very inconvenient, effectively loosing my data about the selection made.10 votes -
Alignment options to outside (top, bottom, left, right) of key object
I would really benefit from options to automatically align an object to the outside edge (top/bottom/left/right of its bounding box) of a key object. For example, "Align below" would put the top edge of the bounding box of the repositioned object flush with and below the bottom edge of the bounding box of the key object.
While I can try to achieve the same results by dragging the object around and using smart guides and snapping, that may require a lot of time (and a little luck) when there are several nearby objects that smart guides are being generated…

Predictive text and optional ai copy adapted to text box design sizes
I would like to have predictive text, while I write it can complete the word like it happens in my phone.
Also once you have my copy done, have a menu to have other copy options, translations and changes of copy adapted to cover more or less space in my design.2 votes -
Align to Key Object using Direct Select
Double clicking on an object while having direct selection active does not cause the object to become key object. This is possible only when selection tool is active
Recommendation: allow double clicking to select key object while under direct selection tool

Find / Replace font... to include adjusting font and text size
I would like to see a capability added to the find/replace font... feature to include finding and replacing text sizes throughout a document. I make a lot of repetitive text throughout many artboards and sometimes I have to adjust the text size of a particular font. In addition I sometimes have mixed fonts in a textbox and have to adjust the size of one or a few of them separately without changing the size of the other fonts. That would be a super time-saving feature too.

Remove Text to Vector from Properties panel
Would like an option to remove it from Properties panel as it sometimes opens on its own after I have closed it and it impedes my workflow having to close it again because it obstructs actually useful things Properties panel.

Copy and Paste text from Email or web to Illustrator
It's very annoying that we cannot copy text from email or from the web and paste into illustrator, Why? Whenever I need, which is a lot, I have to paste into Photoshop, so I can copy and paste into Illustrator. I always receive text from clients through mail. Does not make any sense. Please could you fix this?

Preserve Text Formatting when using Paste
I would like to suggest adding an option to preserve text formatting when pasting content.
I’m aware of the Place Text feature, but it doesn’t fully meet the need of retaining the original formatting from copied text.This functionality would be especially helpful for my work, as I frequently design leaflets that include both English and Arabic text. Having a paste option that maintains formatting would save time and ensure greater consistency in my projects.
I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this feature. Thank you for the excellent work you do in developing Illustrator.

Removing text style while keeping formatting
I'd like to be able to remove a text object's style (in other words: unlink the text block from the style), but still keep the text's formatting as is.
What usually happens is that, when you create new text blocks, for some reason, they automatically get the latest text style applied. If you don't pay attention, then you might create many text objects and format them manually (because they don't need to be linked to any specific style), and at some point, you realize that all these texts are linked to a certain style, and that's not what…

Curvature tool doesn't work for path in Text on path
I have drawn a curve using Curvature tool.
I've made a text follow this curve.
I want now to edit this curve with Curvature tool, but I just can't — AI won’t highlight and selects points in this path with this tool anymore.Kinda same happens with editing path in blends with Curvature tool — I have to dance with Ctrl, clicking, isolating, and then, after some combination of woodoo, AI finally sees points and allows to move them with said tool.

Paste in Front / Back should be disabled while actively editing text
Ctrl+B and Ctrl+F are still available to paste objects while user is actively editing text. This should not be allowed.
Ctrl+V does some kind of text only paste in the active text edit field (this makes sense) but hitting Ctrl+B or Ctrl+F (by default, paste in back/front) these will ACTUALLY paste artwork whatever it may be in the location copied from, WHILE the user is in the text edit field. This could mean unexpected behavior and user may not realize they pasted something as it may not even have drawn on screen.

My printers require fonts to be outlined. This is a huge hassle. I need to convert everything to outlines, save the PDF, and then remember to undo my outlining before I save the AI file.

Can you please add the text recognition (OCR) feature from Acrobat DC Into Illustrator, I have been producing Emergency Evacuation Diagrams using Illustrator for 10 years, I get supplied with scans and non editable PDF files that I have to recreate. If an active text area is way off-screen, end text entry and treat keyboard input as shortcuts.
If you have been typing in a text area and pan away somewhere else, continuing to type results in the view port being dragged part of the way back to the active text area with the first key stroke and the rest of the way on the second.
Typing into an off-screen text area is almost always a mistake for me and usually results in a text area that is now empty except for a Space, V, T or A character from my most common keyboard shortcuts. I'd prefer if it just registered that I probably didn't want to type…

Dropdown menu for alignment to specific artboards
I work with multiple artboards files every day and I constantly use the align tool to align to what I think is the artboard I have highlighted, only for it to jump to a different board. It would be awesome if you could click and hold for a menu to dropdown and then select the artboard to align that item to.

Text thread marker (out port) is too small
The size of the red controller [+] which allows you to create a new threaded text is so small that is almost impossible to click. I think it could be bigger in order to improve the usability. In fact, many of those options can be bigger.

Increase save dialog text width for long filenames (Mac OS)
Discussed this with Default Folder developers that Mac OS system dialog box's text width cannot be modified.
Instead, can Adobe improve the save dialog to allow a wider responsive text box for saving filenames.
Currently, filenames only allow 30 characters before it is hidden by the system's box size.
Example filename structure:
- Project Name + Title + 2020-06-20 File State.extSample name:
