Select > Same > (Fill, Stroke, etc.) no longer working in charts
When using the direct selection tool to select a single element of a chart or graph, Illustrator no longer responds to the Select > Same > ... commands. This is a feature we rely upon for everyday capabilities when styling charts. When I try the command, it does not select anything within the chart. If I ungroup the chart, or use the Select > Same > (options) with other Illustrator shapes, it works as normal. The problem surfaced immediately after I upgraded from CC2017 to CC2018.
We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.
Please refer to our knowledge base FAQ – https://illustrator.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1844590 if you face difficulty in update.

This is welcome news.
Illustrator's chart building functions with live data still seem rather primitive overall.
I hope Adobe continues to improve tools and features. There must be a large market with data being so central in how we measure our lives.
Here's my work around - I simply installed the 2017 version of Illustrator and it works once again. You can install the CC 2017 version from the Creative Cloud window - just click on the down area next to "Open" on teh the Illustrator CC line - select "other versions" then just install the version you want. I installed 21.1.0 (CC 2017) and this feature works in it.
It does NOT work in version 22.0.1. Though it appears I can have both versions running on my machine.
heavy sigh... after trying to get this to work I decided to Google the problem and ended up here. This is a serious issue for me as well! totally wreaks havoc on workflow.
Adobe MUST fix this - and soon. Huge problem. Their monopoly is showing. Any alternative charting software that has Illustrator drawing capabilities?

Today is February 11, 2018. The Select tool (Same...) is still not working. Not happy.

This is happening for me too since the upgrade and it is terrible. It's really going to mess with my workflow.
Yes I have the same problem this MUST be corrected by Adobe. Is there any news on this fix as its absolutely crucial this feature is working in our workflow!!!!
I cannot use the direct selection tool at all in the new illustrator. This is making work virtually impossible.
Thank you for reporting the issue. This is Under review.
We are able to reproduce this issue in house.

I should be able to select one item in a grouped chart with the Direct Selection tool and then go to Select > Same > Fill Color and get all the items with the same fill so I can change all of those items at the same time. Right now it only works if I ungroup the chart. This is a problem. Where I work, we prefer to keep the charts grouped so we can update them when data changes quarter to quarter. This functionality used to work as I have described before the recent update to 2018 CC.
