Illustrator plays a <ding> sound when trying to move objects
I am attempting to move a vector object from one side to the next using my mouse. While selected, I attempt to move the object with my mouse and I am hearing a "ding" (as if there is a message pop up) and nothing. The object will not move (The layer is not locked), and there is no error message. The object will only move with the keyboard keys. Please help! I recently upgraded to CC2018.
If you are experiencing this issue in a version that is newer than 23.0.6, it means that the fixed bug has returned. Please vote in the opened duplicate of this issue here:

I'm dealing with this now - Illustrator updated to 26.1 and it's now making a noise whenever I try to move an object - as if I'm moving it to a place it can't go. So the object shifts and then shifts back to where it was - i.e. I can't completely move the object. I just read the rest of the comments below - and will uninstall 26.1.

I'm unhappy to report this bug is still around in the ver. 26.1 I just updated to. I'd be soo soo happy if you all could slow down on all the fancy 3D BS and 'Rich' tool tip **** and just make an glitch free product.

This issue is back. I uninstalled 26.1 like the previous comments recommended and it fixed the issue. I am curious if this is just happening on Mac (I'm on Mac) or if it's happening on PC also.
Adobe please fix this issue! Since it's a past bug it shouldn't be hard to fix it again.

This new thing made it impossible for me to work! I search everywhere before I found this forum. Thanks Donna Dawe specifically for mentioning 26.1. I immediately downgraded my Illustrator via Creative Cloud and the problem is solved. Will have to wait for a version where this "minor bug" is fixed.

Started after I did update this weekend. 26.1 This is really slowing down my productivity. It doesn't just <ding> it freezes or moves adjacent elements as well. Please fix ASAP! Restarting does NOT fix it so don't even bother suggesting that.

I'm on Illustrator 26.1 and only now getting this problem. I can move objects with the arrow keys, but not with the mouse. I can move it a few pixels, but it springs back to the original position. The layer is not locked, it doesn't matter if it's text, object or photo, they all do the same thing. Closing computer and restarting it does not make any difference. It's annoying.

Any update on a fix for this? I am using the most up-to-date version of Illustrator. It started a few days ago and happens mostly when I am the (A) Direct Selection tool. I can't click and drag, but I can use my keyboard arrows to move.

Well ADMIN, I hate to burst your bubble, but the issue has returned as of 25.2.1

Yes restarting the whole **** computer fixes it. Everybody knows that! Do you realize how much time gets wasted out of a designers day having to close out & restart, reopen. ....blah, blah, blah. Whatever, we should not have to do so. So save your CAPS for people you bully online, *****!

OK, so I resolved my issue. It appears to be some kind of Client-side problem, I say this because when I restarted my computer it was resolved. Go figure, I mean I've never had this happen until today. Then it's just gone like the wind. ill keep this bulletin board updated if it happens again

I don't know if this works for everyone but change the direct selection tool to group selection tool and then try switching back and forth with selection tool (V) and try to move images between switching
If not then close windows that are not responding or re-open Adobe Illustrator.
