Visual glitch prevents using Illustrator when file is opened from Finder before launching Illustrator
As the title describes, this glitch occurs consistently whenever launching a file from finder before launching Illustrator.
The file seems to open, as the layers can be seen in the layers window, but the main document editing window is occupied by the welcome menu. The welcome menu cannot be closed, and the files shown in the recent section cannot be opened. See image 1.
The only way to exit the menu without closing Illustrator is to open another Illustrator file through Finder or through File > Open. Then, another visual glitch will take place: the tabs used to select the active document will not render, leaving a chunk of the welcome menu (half of the Illustrator logo) in it's usual place. See image 2.
This is using Illustrator 22.1 on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6.
Being able to open files properly is a pretty basic feature that is expected to be working properly.

Windows 10, 23.0.6
I have an issue with my Illustrator, it cannot open a file after I've opened the Illustrator directly with a file opening. So, if I first open Illustrator, then I can open files, drag and drop them, etc. This is the first issue, to which I found the workaround described above.
Now, since the last version, I've encountered this issue, while opening the first file... it's a visual glitch, as I have the tools menu opened, but the main view / artboard is filled with the opening view / new file... as you can see from the file attached. -

Hi Simon,
Sorry for the inconvenience caused. May I know the version of Illustrator that you are using currently and if its 23.0.3 ,is this still happening on your end.
A similar issue was resolved in the update so wanted to confirm if this is still happening with you?Regards,
Ritika

When trying to open a .ai file, illustrator will open but the file will not appear on the board, although the layers will show up

macOS Sierra v10.12.6 (16G1710) using Illustrator 23.0.1
Attempted the work around to change window arrangement to float in windows options, which shows the intended file, but changing the window arrangement back to consolidation makes it disappear again. Dragging the window with the intended file back to the Workspace makes it disappear again as well. The Application Frame uncheck workaround works as well to make the intended file visible, but the Open File window is still open and floating over top of the intended file!
Beyond frustrating. Saw on another chat that someone mention and update to Adobe Illustrator v23.0.2, but I don't have access to the update at this time.

I am having very similar issues. I go to open an illustrator file from finder. It launched photoshop instead. Then I try to open an illustrator file while illustrator is open, and I get that welcome page too. From that page, if I go to menu > open > then I find the document I want to open, Illustrator tells me it's already open.
Your comment on "being able to open files properly is a pretty basic feature..." couldn't be more spot on.
Do you, or anyone here, know about a fix?

1. OS = Mac OSx Sierra 10.12.6
2. I have saved files to their respective folders on my desktop. I want to open a file from my finder, so i go to that file and either a.) double click it to open it, or b.)right click, choose Open With > Adobe Illustrator 2018.
3. I expect the file to open as I had last saved it
4. Instead, the Adobe program opens but does not open a file. It opens to the beginning screen of AI where I see recent files, and have the option to create a new file. When clicking on a recent file, these do also not open.
5. I have to quit out of illustrator, go back and retry until a file opens, usually after two attempts.
