Illustrator CC 2019 is very slow and laggy
I'm using a Mac OS 10.13 Intel Core i7 16 GB. Ever since I updated to the CC 2019, illustrator became laggy and slow. The other adobe apps worked fine after the update. I saw here that I should try turning the dictation off but that didn't help.
Everything in illustrator is slow now. And if I use the blend tool a lot in one document the eyedropper option in the gradient window becomes unavailable. Everything even if it's as simple as moving from one art board to the next or zooming in/out is lagging

I can't move an artboard or zoom in/ out without 10 minutes of colorful wheel and 'application not responding'. Running 2019 Illustrator cc on a 2019 iMac 27", 5k. 32 GB RAM. My file is incredibly simple: just single line vectors, no gradients, blends- or even fill or color. What is going on here?

Some elements in Illustrator 2020 are also running poorly for me. I just replaced my 2012 MacBook Pro with the new 16" MacBook Pro with the top options at the time of writing: 2.4 GHz 8-core Intel Core i9 Processor, 64GB RAM, and the AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8 GB of VRAM. It's connected to a 4k UHD LG monitor and a HD Cintiq. Illustrator 2020 is running with more difficulty on the new machine than Illustrator 2019 did on my 8 year old MacBook Pro. I've worked on the same documents on both machines and notice particularly poor performance with the blob brush and paint brush. I've been a daily user of Illustrator for 26 years so I'm not unfamiliar with optimizing preferences and display options. But it seems I shouldn't have to do that with this machine? Anxious to hear from Adobe regarding this issue.

Hey Illustrator Team,
I just want to remind that this thread was posted ONE YEAR AGO... I also want to admit that in 2012 MacBook Pro was the first Mac to offer a Retina display and 2 years after, Apple bring the Retina display to the iMac (2014)... now we have 2020 so 8 years for mbp / 6 years for iMac 6 years to prepare the right optimization and still we don't have it, paying you monthly fee. I don't want now new features, I just want work without any distractions...

I have just purchased Macs for my whole department and updated everyone to CC 2020 primarily for speed and performance.
We are practically dead in the water.
Adobe please fix this now

I have the same problem with Illustrator 2020 and 2019 doesn't matter which version, the same have laggy performance when you are moving the canvas by hand tool and some kind of delay when transforming vector ojbects. Of course overprint view is completely unusable and laggy. I was hanging with Adobe Support 6 / 7 times with couople of hours on remote control and help nothing. I've have made a video how it is working:
1st video: https://youtu.be/mtCttOjDMeM
2nd video: https://youtu.be/jRbf0-3o7MkAfter couple of hours spendig with Adobe support they finally connect me with the senior advisor which admit engieeners have problem with 4k/5k displays and optimize software for AMD GPUs... awesome the 5k retina display was introduced 5 years ago and the bug was reported also more than a 1 year... how long we have to wait to repair it ? We can work productive, efficient and comfortable ... Please Adobe you have to understand us.
My spacs are:
iMac 5k 2019
i9 3,6ghz
Pro Vega 48
1TB SSD
16GB RAM
OS: Catalina and Mojave (testing both to find best solution) -

THIS IS MAKING ME NUTS! AI is completely unusable for me due to the lag!

I also am having a ridiculous amount of trouble even moving things around.. extremely frustrating, and I'm using 2019. Just started a few days ago, thought it was because of the size of client's artwork, but even a 14pt font won't show position while moving. WTF?!

I too am having serious issues with a pretty basic pathfinder redraw - on an iMac pro. Yeah, feels like a return to 1993. I'm available whenever = please contact me so we can figure this out...

I echo this. I have a high performance new computer and when 2020 installed, Illustrator became so slow I couldn't work with it. I reverted to 2019 since its bugs with the artboards were could at least be dealt with simple hacks.

I echo the Admin's comment; take just a few minutes to schedule an online session with the Adobe Illustrator team. This worked for me. The problem is gone and everything is working perfectly!!!!!

Illustrator 2020, on a Mac Pro running Mojave. This is ridiculous: I feel like it's 1992 again. As in, I have to get up and make coffee while waiting for a fairly modest vector plot to redraw. I was happy with CS3 and CS5 but was forced to update because of my collaborators. I feel crippled by this product and will likely have to withdraw my AGU poster because my progress has slowed to a crawl and I leave in two days. Thanks a lot.
And don't tell me my setup is obsolete. The latest versions of Matlab and other codes are running without trouble.WRT "gentle reminder #2" - sorry. I have a deadline. Not sure what I'll do. This is obviously not my individual problem, Illustrator 2020's poor performance is a widespread issue. Please revert to a version of your software that actually works for most of the people, most of the time.

Same here!
iMacPro for 6000,- EUR. The machine is normally super fast at anything, even at massive 3D Renders!
AI... laggy like in 1980 !
Are programmers getting more and more stupid in this world ?
Or only at Adobe because of your monopole?Adobe, you are seriously damaging peoples´ businesses.
Maybe you want a lawsuit from thousands of clients?

I've left multiple messages on here and sent emails directly to the sharewithai@adobe.com email address but I finally heard from an engineer at Adobe after filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately, a restart of my computer had eased the lag issue when he called so I couldn't properly show the horrendous lag. He updated my graphics card driver and updated my CC Illustrator from 24.0 to 24.1 and called the problem solved. They basically said the lag was because my graphics card driver was out of date. The lag issue returned later that same day.
So I responded to the Better Business Bureau follow-up email as being Unsatisfied with Adobe's response.

Illustrator 2020 is still extremely poor performing/laggy. How soon can we expect this app to be optimized? Are we going to have to deal with this for 2 years straight? I'm using the 2018 version to get by and it is still really slow to use.
The comments below are clearly annoyed customers, paying monthly/annually for an application. Can you please confirm or deny if something is being done right now to address this key issue.

Illustrator 2020 suddenly become impossible to use. Cannot even do simple things like moving the cursor to where I want and select objects without taken it several seconds to process. What is going on? Tried uninstalling/reinstalling 2020, tried going back to older versions and tried deleting preferences files. Nothing worked.

This performs so poorly that it's unusable. Right after installation, on a completely new iMac 3.0 ghz 6 core computer, it is so slow that it takes 6 seconds for a dropdown menu to appear. Using the pen tool takes several,l seconds for each point to appear. If you try to move the window it gets stuck to the mouse because the feedback is lagging for so many seconds.
I've tried turning off every feature I could under view and preferences, that might affect performance, with no change.
I used illustrator way back in the early 90's, when it probably was 50megs, now it's 2 gigs and performs so poorly. Why does this program need to be so bloated?
