View Using GPU Gets Greyed Out Permanently with Outline Mode
Hello, with fresh preferences, 'View using GPU' and scrubby zoom are enabled in Illustrator. if I turn on Outline Mode, Illustrator loses connection with my GPU. The 'View using GPU' option becomes greyed out and never restores. In order to get it back I have to delete my preferences. Here is my system info:
Illustrator 25.1
OS: Windows 10
GPU: 2 x NVIDIA Titan Black
RAM: 64 GB Memory
GPU Driver: Driver 460.89
Display: ASUS PQ321Q 4K

Hallujah! Bug fixed for me in version 26.2.1
Thank you! -

Still have the same problem on the 26.2 beta.
I have a 2 monitor setup with my windows desktop, one is 4k, the other 1080p. The problem exists on both screens but maybe having one 4k screen plugged in makes the problem happen no matter which moniter illustrator is on.This is probably not very helpful but I did notice is that there is no problem if it is a blank document with not a single graphic on it.

Adobe - my apologies!
I've only just had the pre-release tab become available in my Creative Cloud desktop app. I've installed Illustrator pre-release v26.2 and confirm the bug has now been fixed. Thank you very much :)
Do you know when 26.2 will go into full release?
Thanks :)

OK Adobe, please take notice of this because myself and another user think we have got further to the bottom of this issue which has NOT been fixed in 26.2 Beta.
The problem appears to be with screen resolution on Windows platforms. This affects both laptop screens and external monitors and appears that resolutions higher than 1920 x 1080 are subject to the bug that affects GPU preview. Working at 1080p on any screen is absolutely fine - no issues.
But come on - who in the professional graphics industry is seriously working at 1080p.
Please can we get this screen resolution issue sorted ASAP as it is a real productivity killer having to close and reopen documents to get our GPU zoom and drag back!!!

Ok, I've done some more thorough testing on my system and can confirm (for me) that the 'fixed' 26.2 Beta exhibits exactly the same behaviour as the 26.1 full release i.e. I still have the problem.
However here are some behaviours I can explain.
I run Illustrator on a Dell Alienware 15R3 laptop, that has 16GB RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, Nvidia GTX1060.
When I run Illustrator using the laptops built-in screen @1080p everything works absolutely fine. When I run Illustrator whilst using my main work monitor which is an LG 27" LED display running @2160p UHD, the screen preview will NOT return to GPU preview after switching to outline mode. However, if I start Illustrator from just my laptop screen, then switch over to my external monitor using windows+P it all works fine. So this is a kind of workaround BUT, I never had to do this workaround before and always just used my external monitor with no issue.
So it looks like this bug has something to do with using an external monitor with a laptop on Windows 10?
Hope this helps shed some more light.

Just updated to 26.1 and this issue has instantly returned. Rolled back to 26.0.3, unfortunately I didn't make a note of what version I was on before updating.
This seems to have solved the GPU preview issue, but rolling back has removed all my preferences and workspaces despite having the checkbox to preserve settings marked for updates.
I really don't like to complain in public forums but this is seriously frustrating as an issue from 2 years ago is still costing me work time.

Hi same issue here.
(also cannot change color profile to North America as I only have Europe available)
To help a bit, if you go to window, open in a new window, it's back to normal
(but don't use outline preview again)

I really like how this thread sort of keep forcing everyone to show of they computer spec. ;D Suprise Suprise I spotted only one RTX 30 series I wonder why.
RE Adobe please fix this or refund me for my subscription or/and my mouse as I am not sure how much more it can take it being smashed in to desk from frustration.
BTW. Using older version is not solution as I am missing some of the features that we pay subscription fee for and I have to deal with loads of client supplied files. They usually saved in the latest version.

I'm having the same issue on my Alienware X17 notebook: Core i7-11800H, NVidia RTX-3070 8GB GPU, 64GB of RAM, 120Hz UHD 17" display, Windows 10 Pro OS. When I first bought the notebook late last summer and first installed Illustrator on it I had animated zoom working in both outline and preview mode. It was nice. The animated zoom function in outline view quit with a subsequent update to Illustrator. I think it was an update just prior to 26.1 that botched normal GPU Preview functions. Now if I open an Illustrator document I'll have animated zoom in full color Preview mode as long as I don't use outline view. If I look at the artwork in outline view then animated zoom in full color Preview mode gets disabled. "GPU Preview" in the menu is grayed out.

I have tried uninstalling Illustrator and its settings, and still have the problem. I also tried uninstalling all of the Creative Cloud and associated Apps, and running the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool. Then restarting and reinstalling Creative Cloud and Illustrator and this bug is still there.

Firstly can I point out that this is happened entirely since the v26.1 update and was fine before. When working on any document in Illustrator I can start off fine in GPU preview mode. When I switch to outline mode for precision detail and then back to GPU preview, it defaults to CPU preview and the option to reselect GPU preview is greyed out. If I close the document and reopen it again hey presto it is back in GPU preview. This is really annoying because it is affecting my productivity. I regularly switch into outline preview so this is a pain. Here are the details of my system:
Windows 10 21H1, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB, Intel Core i7-6700HQ, LG UHD monitor 3840 x 2160p, Illustrator v26.1.
Please can you fix this asap. There are also others on the community forum affected by this bug. Again, just since the last AI update.
Many thanks
Keith

I am having this issue again in both v26.0.3 and v26.1.
I have found that it also looses connection to the GPU when I just turn on the rulers.
I also can trigger this bug when I turn on outline mode. The only way I have found to get a file to work with the GPU again is to save it to my Creative Cloud and then download it from a browser, but NOT from the Creative Cloud macOS app.
However if I just turn on the ruler again or go into outline mode, this bug immediately comes back. Also, This bug happens with AI new files that I just started, that don't have anything in them. Just a standard template file with nothing but a blank artboard in either an 8.5x11 CMYK color mode or 1920x1080 RGB.

The upgrade/downgrade also seems to have reset my settings... What joy. Can't help but feel a little sarcastic...

Ridiculous. I transitioned from Mac to PC a while ago to avoid the GPU disable issues and now it is back...
Please add tests to your workflow for this issue, so it will never be broken again inadvertently.

I add up to the line...
"I can confirm that the Issue with NO GPU PREVIEW returned in 26.1
Load the file
GPU Acceleration is ON
CTRL+Y - Outline preview ON
CTRL+Y - Outline preview OFF
GPU Acceleration is greyed out and performance is VERY sluggish.Illustrator struggles with simple technical drawings and performing any task is close to impossible.
I tried changing colour profiles and I had no luck. I'm in Europe so I have Europe General Purpose 3 and Europe Prepress 3 and no luck with any of them.
My work requires me to do a lot of technical drawings and our workflow is based around Creative Cloud so that we can merge creative and technical design together."
This is a frequent reocurring problem, seemingly independent from systems (osX/Win10) and color profiles.
It's really awkward to be beta tester w/o knowing. ;) -
