Font changes from the current one to the previously used while typing
I'm working on a document in which I used Avenir font, but for the most I use Myriad Pro. When I click with the Type tool I see in the character box I'm with the default font (Myriad Pro) and start typing. Then noticed I'm now in Avenir font!
This bug is brand new with the latest update (29.1), I didn't add any issue of that type before.
I'm on Windows 11 PC Core i7-13700 32 Go of RAM
This issue has been fixed in 29.2 release. Please update your Illustrator to latest version through Creative Cloud Desktop.

Please can this be fixed on the actual program, I'm not installing beta just to work normally again! Such an annoying bug

This has been happening to me for weeks and I just thought to search it now, only to find tons of people are having the same issue. It's so incredibly frustrating and halts my work flow. Adobe, PLEASE FIX THIS.

Good grief - I've just wasted a ton of time trying to sort this MASSIVELY annoying issue.
Only to find it's because Adobe broke something else. What a joke. I never now instal a new update until at least a couple of weeks because your track record of making things worse is such a frustration. There's no way I'm going to instal a beta.Surely you can appreciate those of us who use this software as part of our profession just want it to work. Every time. Reliable. Predictable. Our time is money and you already take enough money from us, please don't do stupid stuff and rob our time too.

When typing into an existing text box, text doesn't keep its chosen formatting, instead reverting back to previous formatting.
This is really annoying and wastes a lot of time. It didn't use to be like this until the last update.

Same bug, started happening a couple of days ago. Old and new files affected. As soon as I make edits to a paragraph, it will revert to the original font it was first typed in. I am currently rebranding packaging and this is costing me a lot of time.

Mariusz,
Agreed. It’s a huge bug and so shameful to have persisted this long. And yes, The fix offered does indeed work with little to no detriment. Unfortunately Most user won’t find the fix though and will simply be inconvenienced and frustrated believing it’s a font or preference issue.

Hey all,
Just wanted to point out that the workaround suggested by Adobe does work on the non-beta version of Illustrator. In the Preferences menu, go to Type > Enable Missing Glyph Protection and turn it OFF.
This is as per Adobe (also reposted by some users).
While this isn't a permanent solution, and YES, it BURNS MY *** to have to pay a nearly $100 per month premium and still have **** like this happen (a very, very non-premium experience) it's a workaround that gets us back to being able to deliver for our clients.
Cheers.

When can we expect a proper fix for this Adobe? You've known about this issue for 6 weeks now -- since October 30, 2024. How long do you plan to keep this fix in beta testing? This issue affects any and all text created in previous versions of Illustrator. This is a critical issue that thousands of professionals rely on to work properly. Adobe's lack of communication and dragging their feet on this issue just goes to show how out of touch and tone deaf you really are.

I'll add my voice to the chorus: calling a major bug resolved because you're having success in the beta version is absurd. I work for a corporation and use Illustrator in a manufacturing environment. We don't install beta test versions of software across our network. We don't even do updates for the first few weeks so garbage like this can get ironed out. We pay an outrageous price tag for a premium product. FIX. THIS. NOW.

Please fix in the primary release. We don't use beta and changing the font every single time is unacceptable. This would be an annoyance if we didn't pay so much for the software. In this case it is unacceptable.

After typing in text using the type tool, changes in its font style are not applied permanently for further text edits. This happens for both font families and weights. Font sizes, distances, and other manual changes are not affected.
For example, if I type in the text 'No Edits' in Arial, then change it into Futura, it will appear be fully applied to the initial text. However, if I add in new letters, for example, making it into 'Please No Edits', the new word 'Please' will still appear in the style Arial instead of Futura. This error is happening to both my coworker and me. We are both using Illustrator 29.1 version.

I am experiencing this issue too. It's so annoying I had to go back to 2024 version since bugs like this renders the new (2025) version to useless.
I tried to copy-paste the affected piece of text from 2025 to 2024 Illustrator version just to inspect. I noticed that text is getting chopped and cllpping-masked. I never saw this before.
BTW. It is NOT DONE, beta does not count. Its major bug.

It's not fixed until it's rolled out in a proper build. We aren't beta testers. We are paying customers. The dev team should work to confirm the functionality and stability on their end then issue the update.

Same as Jessica, I am not a beta tester. I need to work with Illustrator.
Please advise when the fix will be in a live version.
Thank you.
