With the latest Illustrator update, 26.2.1, I experimented with mapping some symbols to 3D object, created by the new-3D and 3D-Classic. While the symbol mapping is now a possibility in the new-3D (THANK YOU), it's no where close to the superior functionality with the vector 3D-Classic tool.

    New-3D
•Mapping symbols to cover a multi-faceted surface is easier, but then its seriously flawed (see the attached image).

    3D-Classic:
•Vector 3D is so far superior to raster 3D that it's a world difference.
•The 3D image can be Expanded and sectioned out. That is a must-have feature
•Wrapping a symbol object around the edges and multi-faceted object is more difficult, but with a little work it can be accomplished so much better than the New-3D raster engine.
•There is only a single very minor flaw with the vector 3D-Classic, and that's when a symbol gets close to a sphere pole it warps. But then it can be easily remedied by simply placing the symbol centrally, and rotating the sphere instead. Easy fix.

PLEASE keep and improve the vector 3D functionality, PLEASE

Thank you for the information, Egor! That's good news.

I use 3D-vectors ALL THE TIME. 3D vectors work seamlessly with vector illustration work, and are vital for good workflow.

3D-raster/bitmap is almost useless. There are countless applications that do that already.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not abandon 3D-vectors!

Modern 3D and Materials allows to map symbols directly on a object on canvas, across its multiple surfaces. A user can move it, rotate, scale.

The tech is not perfect still, and it won’t be supported for now Classic #D effects, but is potent enough already to try.

PLEASE FIX THIS, ADOBE. I'm experiencing the same thing! There is nothing that XD can create and or export, that can be opened in Illustrator, without Illustrator locking-up and crashing! I can NOT copy-and-past from XD to Illustrator, I can NOT open any XD files with Illustrator, I can NOT open an SVG file created with XD, in Illustrator, NOTHING!

It's is a serious flaw and serious problem, when I work with a team who is creating mockups in XD and they want me to refine elements using Illustrator, and I CAN'T! I have to recreate the whole blasted XD mockup in Illustrator before I can do anything!

I'm using the latest of everything: XD version 44.1.12, and Illustrator version 24.3.2.
