It seems by Neeraj's reply that they expect us to save/open/edit/save in PDF instead of using illustrator's own native file format.

PDF is not and never was intended to be an editable file format. It is an end-use format. Saving your illustrator data as "private data" within the PDF is, quite frankly, idiotic.

Running an "illustrator default / illustrator editing capabilities ON" PDF through preflight (PDFtoolbox or the like) and changing anything about the file completely destroys the link between the preflighted PDF data and the private data (opening the PDF in illustrator afterwards will *NOT* show you the changes the preflight made to the file)

Do yourselves a favor and just turn it off. I would say "and leave it off" but since it defaults to being ON and we're unable to select a default... well, that's what this feature request is about.

@ Alex, I have noticed the same thing in the last two Illustrator updates. I have actions setup to save PDF's for a particular workflow and they *used* to save with their selected joboptions correctly, but now they're doing what export for screens does (a bug) that just uses the most recently used 'save as' PDF settings, regardless of anything else.

I have to be careful to manually save a pdf with the settings I want and then run my actions.

This is a good idea, seems like the export for screens ought to be able to export any file format illustrator is natively capable of 'saving'.

That said, I don't use eps at all anymore since we switched to PDF workflow at my company a couple years ago. Anybody who thinks eps is "essentially the same as" PDF is in for a massive shock when you start working in prepress doing color management and matching for demanding customers, or just preflight in general.

I noticed some time ago that export for screens settings for PDF are not actually what the function uses when exporting PDFs of all artboards. Instead it uses whatever the last-used PDF export or 'save-as > pdf' joboptions settings were.

For instance, I can select a custom joboptions in export for screens, but if I most recently used save-as and selected PDF-X/4 preset, then export for screens will use PDF-X/4 instead.

Not sure whether that's an intended behavior, but the way the dialog it set up to allow selecting a specific joboptions setting I don't believe it is intentional.

You might want to take a look at File > Export > Export for screens

It does what you're asking for here.
Beware though, it will always use the most recently used PDF save/export settings, regardless what you set it to in Export for screens. So, if you need a particular set of PDF options, make sure to save a single test-document with those before using Export for screens.

All this does is add a scale factor to any exported PDF if the user selects version 1.6 or higher. The actual PDF page size is still limited to 200x200 inches.*

It is not made obvious anywhere within Illustrator's new document dialogs that a user can make an artboard larger than 200x200 inches should they wish to do so.

*All of this because distiller is still a thing, and is stuck with the 200x200 inch limitation for PostScript thanks to outdated limitations of the windows printer driver.

You'd think this wouldn't be an issue to begin with since we're constantly bombarded with "metric is so much better, it's just moving the decimal place, so easy...!" .....yet people can't seem to figure out how to self-scale their art by dividing by 10. (just move the decimal, it's so easy!)

I have attempted to reproduce this behavior and cannot get my current install to do it.

The Unite and Merge commands in the pathfinder pallet both behave the same with filled path objects, but any stroke is lost with Merge.

Changing the color of one of the path objects results in the same thing as Trim, though.

What sort of quality are you hoping to achieve? This is about the best I can get using the photo you uploaded

Do you happen to have any plugins installed, or any user input device drivers, or font management applications?

I have both a Logitech Options software for my mouse and FontBase running and occasionally get one of these oddball pallets show up at startup that don't have any content in them.

    Hi Everyone,

We have fixed this bug in our latest release – v 24.2.1 which is available worldwide now. Thanks for your patience on this.

Please note that after upgrading you might still see that Align To sets itself to Align to Key Object. If you see this, please manually set the Align To to the required setting, and this reported bug will not happen again. You’ll need to this one time only.

The reason Align To might get set to Key Object after update is because Ai remembers your last Align To on subsequent launches as well. So, if your last Align To was Key Object before quitting/upgrading, after first multi-selection, it will set itself to Key Object. After you manually change it one-time, it will work fine.

You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

Verify that you do not have one of the objects selected as a key object. If that's the case, all the objects will center on the key object when using 'distribute'. Your screenshot makes it look like one of them is selected as a key object (the thicker selection highlight)

As an aside, this latest update on my machine has introduced an occasional bug that causes a key object to be automatically selected when selecting multiple objects. It is very annoying.

EDIT: They're aware of the issue and working on it.

How are your color settings configured? I can only see this happening if the file you're getting color from is using a different RGB profile (or no profile) than the new file you create and paste art into.

I believe there's a setting for that in preferences, "Select Same Tint %" in the General section.

This was a long time ago, but did you ever figure out that your document was in CMYK color mode? Note that in your screenshot, your black is CMYK pure-black, which will not map directly to RGB/Hex pure-black.

Changing to or creating a document as RGB would prevent this from happening.

    Background:

    • CC libraries does not have support for Global Process Colors
    • Some users have spoken about InDesign – InDesign does not support Global Process colors
    • Illustrator does support process colors , global process colors and spot colors. The issue is specefic to global process colors – since it is not supported in CC Libraries. We have added the request to support in CC libraries backlog,

    Workaround:

    • Create Process colors in Illustrator and add it to CC libraries – deselect the global checkbox

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3

You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.

The latest Beta 29.2.38 now offers a way to see the distances between a selected object and an object hovered over / edges of an artboard.

    1. Click on the object you want to measure the distance from
    2. Press Opt/Alt and hover over the object that you want to measure distance to
    3. You can also hover over empty area to see the distance from the selected object and the artboard boundaries

Please try it and come back with the feedback.
