Placed psd layer comps keep their visibility regardless of color space(s)
Make layer comp visibility overrides work regardless of color space. When placing layer comps from PSD, the color spaces for both documents need to be the same in order for the layer comp visibility overrides to be sticky in AI. If one is CMYK and the other is RGB, and the layer comps are changed, the placed comps do not keep their original comp visibility overrides.

Allow to zoom pattern swatches on right click hold, like we can do in Graphics Styles
Patterns can we very detailed, and we can have some pattern variants that don’t differ much from each other. Even when we choose to have Large Thumbnail View in Swatches, it doesn’t really help much to distinguish these.
It’d be useful if we could do the same thing as Graphic Styles panel does — to click and hold a right mouse button to view a giant thumbnail of the clicked pattern.
The only difference would be that styles are displayed applied to the selected objects, while there is no such need for patterns — a simple square thumbnail will…

Customize Transparency Grid Size and Color...
It would be nice to customize the transparency grid's color and relative size.
11 votesIt is possible to do in Illustrator as well — not in Preferences, but in File > Document Setup dialog (Cmd/Ctrl + Alt +P) — because these settings are local for a document and not global. Same exact controls.

Find approximate/closest Pantone from a process color
If you choose a color from the color picker in Photoshop, it will show you the nearest equivalent in the Pantone library.
3 votesYou can do it for a single color. Open the Recolor Artwork dialog (full one), then limit the color to a desired Pantone palette, by pressing the button at the bottom that says ‘None’ and choosing the book you need.

Adding Background Color to Pattern Options
When creating seamless pattern it would be very helpful to have the ability to select a background color in the Pattern Options palette. Especially for hex shape, if I create a separate background shape the overlapping doesn't always work especially for Hex. I use the Appearance palette as a workaround or manually add a background color/shape. Please see screenshot for reference. Thank you!

Fix Find & Replace to keep formating of font being changed
Find & Replace has never worked correctly and still doesnt. If I do a find and replace Illustrator will change the formatting of the text being replaced to the formatting nearest to it, it doesnt keep the formatting of the characters being changed if they are different than the characters either side of it within the same text block.

Eye dropper tool matches colour to a Colour Book set of swatches
As a fashion designer, I always (have to!) work with colour books like Pantone etc. and it is extremely tedious when I use the eye dropper, or open up a default swatch, to then have to open the recolour artwork dialogue box and convert the colours into Pantones.
It would be so much easier, if we could set in preferences a colour library book as the default set of Swatches that illustrator works from, so that when I use the eye dropper, it will select the 'closest matching' pantone swatch and I do not have to go through the process…

Add more modifier keys for Control bar to show alternate color UI
Currently the behavior of the Color UI in Properties is broken:
http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/48691379Clicking the swatch drop down opens the different swatch color options.
Please update with these shortcut key options:
Shift + clicking the swatch drop down opens the Color Mixer options.
Option + clicking the swatch drop down opens the gradient options.
Command + clicking the swatch drop down opens the pattern options.2 votes -
not grayscale color as default, or set other color setting as a default
I know that you can change the color mode in color window. But it's really pain in the *ss to do it every time I create a new document.
and the idea setting grayscale as a default for every document with every color mode is ridicolous . (why Illustrator not changing it since it's way too inconvinient)
Idk the history of Illustrator etc. and I won't be bothered by it, I just want to have an option to change the default color setting. that's it.2 votes -
Select All Unused Key Command
Hello,
It would be very useful if custom key commands could be applied to palette commands. Specifically, I would love to create a key command for "Select All Unused" in the swatches palette drop-down menu. It currently requires a click in the palette, scroll down to select the command, clicking the garbage can in the palette then clicking (or enter/return) to confirm that you want to delete unused swatches. Some days I convert hundreds of files swatches from Pantone to CMYK then to RGB. A key command would speed this up dramatically!
Thank you!

Allow to set Shades, similar to how Tints work now
I'd like to see a Shade option added to global swatches. Currently, we have tint, which adds varying levels of white to the color until you reach 100% white. Shade would act in the opposite direction, adding varying levels of black until you reached 100% black.
I would envision this working by letting users click the "T" next to the slider in the color palette and having it switch to an "S", with the gradient changing from white on the left to black.
This would be helpful because I often find myself needing not only lighter hues to work…

Allow to edit color of text in a dynamic symbol instance
I think it should be possible to edit the color of text in a dynamic symbol instance, just like it possible to change the color fill of any other element

Make a way to call the Color Picker dialog for change color of a gradient stop
The gradient tool is not very intuitive, and the color selection interface has a limited range, making it difficult to accurately pick the desired colors. Usually, I can only use color codes to specify them. I think there is a lot of room for improvements.

Combine color and stroke in one palette
Older versions of ai had color and stroke in one palette... since in almost 100% of the cases when you draw an object you will need to modify both. This could be be an option under both current palettes.

Select Artwork by Swatch
This is how it should work:
Select a Swatch in the Swatches palette, choose from the menu: 'Select all object that use this swatch' (as Fill / Stroke).
Comes in very handy to select items via the Swatches palette in complex cartoon style drawings. It is also a way to - kind of - create long awaited multi layer groups.

When dropping an object filled with a pattern into Swatches panel, open New Swatch dialog to add the pattern as a new swatch
If we drag-n-drop any artwork into Swatches, a new pattern swatch gets created based on this artwork.
But if we drag-n-drop an singular object with an existing pattern applied to it — nothing happens, as if Ai tries to create a nested pattern and refuses to do so. I think it’s quite obvious what a user intends to do in this case... but we get no warning. When we use Pattern Options panel/mode, and fill an object within a pattern with another pattern, and try to save, Ai throws us a message (rather vague — Ai knows for…

Allow to covert a global / spot swatch into a normal / process color when user tries to edit the HEX value in Color panel
As mentioned by oldsystem here — https://www.reddit.com/r/AdobeIllustrator/comments/1pj3jae/my_4month_list_of_illustrator_2025_issues_state/ — Illustrator doesn’t allow to change a global/spot color in the Color panel by editing a HEX value. We just can’t type there.
However, if we open a Color Picker instead, it’s not a problem — we can enter a new hex value and get the color converted into a normal/process color, with no warning or shy message even about the conversion happened.
Please make these consistent. Allow editing the HEX value and show a shy message, similar to one we see when we convert live rectangles into just paths by moving…

Customizable Background and Wireframe Color for View > Outline mode
It would be really helpful for those of us working in low-light environments to have an inverted / low-contrast option for the 'Outline' view.
As it is, working on an all-white screen is very fatiguing. Having a simple switch to change the display from light to dark would be a welcomed QoL improvement.
I've attached two images showing how I see this implemented.
When "invert" is active I'd prefer the background not be pure-black but a dark shade of grey (shown as #1E1E1E here).
Another option could be to make the alternate mode adaptive, where the color scheme matches the…
