  1. Scale strokes box keeps unchecking

The "Scale Strokes and Effects" box keeps becoming unchecked making it necessary for me to check preferences for each document.

  2. Stroke changes when dragging a corner to scale

When scaling artwork by dragging a corner (I used the upper right corner) the strokes get messed up. In the included image the left logo has strokes and fills. The right logo has strokes converted to paths. When I reduce the image down 50% using the numerical scale menu by double clicking the scale tool it turns out fine as the top 2 show. Below that are 2 logos I scaled by dragging the top right corner and holding option shift keys. The logo with the stroke shows the outline being much smaller. If I select the 2 the top…

  3. Offset Path and Aligned Strokes get rendered partially with a specific handle configuration

When a curved segment of a path has diverging handles that are oriented in different quadrants across the X axis (this is my guess), like it’s shown in the attached document and the GIF, Illustrator renders the result only up to the horizontal tangents of the path. Same thing happens if you try to toggle Align Stroke options (they seem to use the Offset math).

Adding and extra point on the rendered segment helps, but it’s not really a solution.
The bug is quite old and perhaps it’s time to get it fixed?

  4. Unidentified dash / gap values get shown as zeroes

Make a simple test (as demonstrated in the attached GIF).
Make sure you test this after relaunching Illustrator.
Open Preferences > Units and make sure you have all three parameters (General, Stroke, Type) set to Points.

    A. Create a new document based on Web document profile
    B. Create a simple rectangle
    C. In the Stroke panel enable Dashed Line option

The first 'dash' value would be 12 pt (or somethin else if you general units are not points), and the rest of the fields would be empty, undefined. It means Illustrator uses the same 12 pt for the gap.

  5. Joining two paths completely ruins brush width/variable stroke width profiles

    1. Draw a path with a pressure-sensitive brush. Draw another one that begins near where the first one ends.
    2. Select the ends of both paths. Object > Join.
    3. Wonder why the resulting pressure profile bears no resemblance to what you had on screen before the join.

    4. Draw a path with a variable stroke width. Draw another one that begins near where the first one ends.

    5. Select the ends of both paths. Object > Join.

    6. Wonder why the resulting width profile bears no resemblance to what you had on screen before the join.

I think it might be just grabbing the pressure/width…

  6. Strokes with a profile and have the rounded corners selected end up having pointy corners

The corners of my strokes should have a rounded corner but the moment I adjust the profile with the width tool they turn all pointy

  7. Strokes smaller than 1 pt (or 1 mm) become zero when Stroke Weight down arrow key button is used

If you set a stroke to 1 pt and click Stroke Weight down arrow key button, it correctly goes to the next smaller value from the dropdown — 0.75 pt.
But if you do the same with 0.95 or anything smaller than 1 pt, clicking this button instantly makes it zero, skipping all the smaller values.

It’s even worse if you set stroke units to be non-points — even though there are plenty of smaller values in the dropdown, and 1 mm is much larger than a point, it goes 0 too.

While Cmd/Ctrl+arrow (not recorded) works fine with points,…

  8. Stroke gradient sometimes defaults to within stroke instead of across stroke when using eyedropper

I have a path with a gradient across the stroke that I'm copying to other strokes using the eyedropper, and roughly 90% of the time it works fine, but sometimes it lags a little and then copies the appearance over except for the across stroke, instead setting itself to the stroke gradient default of within stroke. Obviously fixing this is only a couple button clicks, but still.

  9. Inconsistent stroke value

It didn't seem to be a problem before, but when I have two closed shapes that read and are supposed to have the same stroke value, but they appear to be completely different values.

  11. More than 32,000 anchor points can be added to a single path

The pathPoint limit is 32,000, and if we try to continue drawing a path from the end of a PathItem with the pen tool, a dialog box will appear and refuse to add anchor points, but we can add anchor points to the segments in between.

    macOS 14.7.2
    Illustrator ver. 29.3.1

    Step to reproduce
    1. Create a path object in a new document.
    2. Add 32,000 anchor points to the path object.
    3. Click on any segment with the pen tool. We can add anchor points even if the number of anchor points exceeds 32000 (the number of segments exceeds…

  12. Stroke appears to have Brush applied with no actual Brush

When I am in ANY artboard, I draw a .0139" x .0139" OR 1px x 1px square to center my artboard. I zoom in to as far as I can to then pull my ruler from top left to center the artwork on the page.

    2 things,
1 the square (1px x 1px) appears to have a brush stroke on it as it does NOT

    AND

I cannot pull the centering tool (in ruler, Ctl-R ) onto my artboard to then center the coordinates.

  13. Cursed Path includes non deletable artifacts — part of shape when outlined.

I have drawn custom shapes using the pen tool. Visible artifacts are growing out of anchors. When I switch to outline mode, these artifacts are not visible, yet when I expand the strokes, the artifacts become part of the resulting shape. I cannot resolve this by deleting the anchors that cause the issue, if I do that and then reconnect the remaining points, the artifact simply reappears. I'm attaching an Illustrator file with the cursed paths so that others can see if they experience the same issue or if they can resolve it.

    I am running Illustrator cc 29.4 on…

    Hi All,

    Thanks for reporting the issue!

We’ve reviewed the issue, but unfortunately, we're unable to reproduce the issue on our end.

To help us investigate further, could you please share:

    • The .ai file where you’re seeing the issue
    • Or a short screen recording capturing the issue from the start

    Also, let us know:

    • Is the issue 100% reproducible on your side, or does it happen intermittently?

Your input will help us get to the root of the problem faster.

    Looking forward to your response!

    Regards,

    Aishwarya G Gadodia

  14. Width tool not working right: can’t adjust widths at the first point of the path

Have a fairly simple shape inside a radial repeat x 12. That shape has about 4 width adjustments. And one of them has a hard adjustment, from wider to smaller, but it acts really weird and can't make it a smooth width. It doesn't have two width adjustments on top of each other, and I can't delete the width adjustment. This has happened twice in different files, made separately but with similar processes. Can't seem to find a way to fix this besides deleting and starting over.

  15. Changing the size of a graphic will not remain stable and does not maintain it's location point.

I have a graphic that uses the top-left as the alignment reference point. It is on an artboard that is positioned in whole numbers (no decimals).

    I want it to be at X: 20px and Y: 20px
I want it to be W: 700px or Y: 700px (either one not both)
I do not want the position of X or Y to change from 20px.
I want to maintain whole numbers

    What happens instead:
When I resize the graphic it will not maintain a whole number and it changes the position/location of my reference point. I have snap to pixel…

  16. clicking on stroke color in properties box adds fill to stroke

When trying to change stroke color, the properties box shows nothing in the RGB boxes. Clicking in them adds a fill to the stroke which is unwanted. Edit Gradient controls were buggy too

  17. Expanding an Inside / Outside stroke creates barely open paths

    1. Create a rectangle
    2. Apply a thick stroke to it and change its alignment to Inside or Outside
    3. Expand Appearance for the shape
    4. Deselect the shape
    5. Grab Direct selection and carefully move the corner points at the top right, for both paths

It turns out Illustrator doesn’t keep these tidy! One is cut open, another has a doubled point! It leads to a problems later, when we try, e.g. to make corners rounded, or apply effects.

A current workaround is to apply Add (as Pathfinder operation or an effect) to the stroke, separately form the fill... and it’s taxing for memory,…

  18. Strokes stop working properly.

Ever since version 28.7.1, after a bit of time, today was less than 2 hours, strokes can no longer can be edited.

Changing "Align Strokes" changes nothing, stroke size changes nothing. Changing caps changes nothing. This happens to both new and old strokes on both new and old paths/shapes.

Currently restarting the app seems to work around & reset it, but only for a few hours, then it starts happening again.

P.S. This is on a Mac

  19. Default line stroke color needs to be black and no fill for line segment tool, it keeps reverting back to no fill/no stroke color

This has been going on for a very long time so I'm sure many others have seen this by now. I do A LOT of work using the line segment tool. Nearly 50% of the time I am using it, the stroke color or fill selections change on the tool. It needs to be set on default with no fill, black stroke color, with either .5 or 1 pixel (should be selectable in settings). Please for the love of anything... fix this silly problem.

  20. Inside / outside strokes get silently expanded when you create a pattern with them

    Try these steps:
    1. Create a shape (like ellipse or rectangle)
    2. Make sure you have Inside or Outside option chosen for Align Stroke in the Stroke panel
    3. Object > Pattern > Make (or drag the ellipse to the Swatches panel)
    4. Check the contents of the pattern.
    The stroke gets expanded!

However, if you copy an object with an Inside / Outside stroke and paste it into the pattern — it doesn’t get expanded and stays live... until you commit editing — only then Ai warns you non-cnetered strokes will get expanded.

Perhaps Ai should drop a message…
