How is this marked as Resolved?!? It is still happening to me every day. Shutting Chrome and Safari does nothing, only hard reboot fixes it.

PLEASE fix this. for 17 years I have been using Spacebar as hand tool with Adobe as a Graphic Designer. This is a crazy thing to change without any notification or ability to restore. FIX IT PLEASE!! Or please send instructions on how to re-install. Not having internet open is not a solution.

Similar to other commenters, quitting chrome fixed the issue. Was able to restart chrome and space bar continued to work as hand tool.

There's some kind of conflict regarding the input or something. If you type a bunch of spaces in the address-bar in whatever browser you're using, the hand tool becomes available when pressing space in Illustrator. No need for closing software, at least not in my experience.

This is incredibly annoying. I ran the Sierra update and am working on a mac pro—not sure if that makes a difference. I don't even have Safari open. Anyone having luck?

Delete the app and reinstall, it only happens with MacBooks for some reason.

Did anyone find a work around for this? I am trying to use PS and it's basically useless.

IF YOU QUIT SAFARI THE HANDTOOL WORKS AGAIN.. But 90% of us NEED to access data from the web and design at the same time. WHY is this happening?? This would be an easy fix especially if 10,000 designers have finally identified the problem and reported it. YES, if you quit Safari, the hand tool STILL works even after you've restarted Safari but WHY?? It should work ALL THE TIME.. this conflict is something that APPLE and ADOBE NEED TO ADDRESS ferchristsakes!

Alright - I quit Safari - and space bar started working again. Restarted safari and spacebar is still working. So - I think it is the Mac OS system that is kicking in with the issue. That is my guess.
