Illustrator CC 2019 is very slow and laggy
I'm using a Mac OS 10.13 Intel Core i7 16 GB. Ever since I updated to the CC 2019, illustrator became laggy and slow. The other adobe apps worked fine after the update. I saw here that I should try turning the dictation off but that didn't help.
Everything in illustrator is slow now. And if I use the blend tool a lot in one document the eyedropper option in the gradient window becomes unavailable. Everything even if it's as simple as moving from one art board to the next or zooming in/out is lagging

Reverting back to 22.1 (2018) was the only thing that worked for me. I'm seriously getting fed up with this CC money grab. Adobe needs to get their stuff together before an actual competitor comes along and starts to take up their market share.

I'm having similar problems . AI was working just fine and then I updated and I can barely use it. I've even gone back to older versions and it is still unusably slow. Very frustrating!

i found illustrator works properly if i turn off dictation services. it was a coincidence that i started using dictation services about the same time as the update.

Still poor performance with Illustrator 23.0.4 on Mojave 10.14.5 if you're looking for confirmation. Using the direct selection tool on slightly complex objects causes the app to move like molasses, while the selection tool doesn't seem to be impacted near as much.
Is Adobe focusing on addressing these performance issues or aiming to restore Illustrator to a previous state where it ran better? If the cause can be diagnosed can an update be pushed out sooner so customers are not paying to use software in a broken state or do we all need to rollback to 2018 or CS6?
If the future plan is to phase out old versions from being used, how can we use the current versions which have bugged tools/old features that use to work fine, and performance that is inferior to previous releases? Hopefully the team can be allowed to focus on bringing Illustrator back to a state that is more optimized than ALL previous versions and that clearly outperforms them.
Shouldn't we be expecting better performing software with improvements in hardware, not more incompatibility on machines with better specs? I have a 2008 iMac with 4GB of RAM running Illustrator 2018 that can outperform, and have features that work better compared to a 2015 5K iMac with 16GB of RAM running Illustrator 2018/2019.
In addition to the issues, Adobe plans to charge everyone more money in 2019 for Adobe CC? The core software we have used for years is performing worse with each release, and I hope Adobe focuses less on developing niche apps, and get the core programs like Illustrator and Photoshop working better than ever before. If you cannot resolve these issues, you should probably discount the software suite for the inconvenience caused by these updates.
Good luck to the team addressing these issues as we're relying on you to make this happen. I'd recommend having someone competent addressing your customers about the current state of fixing these issues and to perhaps make customers more aware when they can expect specific issues to be addressed.

Same here iMac 8 gig memory , getting to the point where I was going to get hard drive checked as Illustrator 2019 is so bad, Cant work on it , won't open files for at minutes plus, if it opens it at all!!. I only use very small vectors. Mental !! considering its Adobe , I expect way more than this. I couldn't even change a name on a print for a mug print yesterday , it said it had run out of memory !! the name was 'Tony' in black , hardly demanding

This issue occurs for me every few days now, Illustrator is honestly becoming almost unusable with this level of disruption to work flow.

Same problem... painfully slow opening and saving.
Extremely frustrating, and severely affecting my work flow. I'm running CC 2019 23.0.4 on on a Mac Pro IOS Mojave (10.14.5).

For what it's worth, rolled back to cc2018 and it's working normally. If legacy software works better than new releases, I see no use in having a subscription based software, paying a monthly premium for a product that seems to be degrading.

You can roll back to Illustrator 2018 or 2017 via the CC interface.
This is currently the only fix.

This slowness is killing me, too. It's ridiculous, especially after so many complaints. Has anyone tried installing past versions? I'm going to try it because I can't wait 5 minutes to print a single page, on a good day!

Extremely laggy here as well, working in a very small file (one, one-color object with like 10 anchor points)... hardly any fonts installed, no other programs running. 2015 imac with 32 gb ram and no other issues.
Considering switching to another vector drawing program. I've used illustrator for over a decade, it's slower now than cs2 was on a 4gb ram low end PC.

I concur that the start-up time is unbearable. Using XD brings my windows desktop to its knees.
