View Using GPU Gets Greyed Out Permanently with Outline Mode
Hello, with fresh preferences, 'View using GPU' and scrubby zoom are enabled in Illustrator. if I turn on Outline Mode, Illustrator loses connection with my GPU. The 'View using GPU' option becomes greyed out and never restores. In order to get it back I have to delete my preferences. Here is my system info:
OS: Windows 10
GPU: 2 x NVIDIA Titan Black
RAM: 64 GB Memory
GPU Driver: Driver 460.89
Display: ASUS PQ321Q 4K
After having investigated the issue with some users , we have been able to find a reproducible scenario for this issue which is due to using a specific color profile which is Generic-CMYK.
Our team is working on fixing this issue on priority.Until the issue is fixed please follow the below steps as a workaround :
1. Go to Edit → Color Settings
2. Under Settings set the default color profile → North America General Purpose 2
Then try creating new document.
Incase with the above workaround still the issue is observed at your end, please let us know in the comments .

Davescm's workaround is working for me while this is being worked on - if I go Window > New window then the new window GPU preview works. Then I can just close the previous window and carry on.
Not ideal, but it's saved a lot of time over closing/reopening documents or Illustrator itself.

Not fixed. View outline turn into CPU view then can't not back to GPU view, I have to restart Illustrator to get back to normal. Really annoyed!

Nope. Not fixed. The GPU view is greyed out as soon as I create a new document from our standard new document template. Works fine in 25.0.0 down. Anything above that is either partial or not at all in terms of rendering with the GPU. I'm attaching the file here for reference. There is nothing crazy or arcane in this template.

Hey Adobe, what about one year of not implementing any "new great features" and just fixing all those bugs? Just dreaming...
By the way... the "magic link" for commenting here, also does not work reliable... needs several tries most of the time to get the mail...
I just installed the Illustrator Beta version 25.4 listed in the Beta apps and it is definitely not fixed.
I tried out the Illustrator 25.4 Beta and the issue still persists for me on my Surface Book 2 running Windows 10.
Please see the screen recording that I posted to Youtube and below is my system information.

I tried Illustrator 25.4 Release Candidate Build 1 just now, and I'm still experiencing the bug.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900XT

Must close and reopen file to return to GPU preview.

same issue with v. 25.3.1 - Windows 10 Pro 20H2, NVIDIA Quadro P2000 on Dell Precision 5530.
Got same bug on 25.3.1
Downgrading to 25.2.3 seems to fix it.
Issue still exists on Windows 10, NVidia RTX 2080ti Studio driver 471.11 and Adobe Illustrator version 25.3.1 (also on a separate Windows 10 PC with RTX3070)
Switching to Outline view immediately switches from GPU to CPU and greys out GPU preview. Switching back from Outline to Preview the GPU options remains grey.
However this is only in the Window that was switched to Outline view. So as a workaround, opening a new Window in the same document (Window >New Window) gives GPU functionality in that new Window and the original window can be closed. If I want to switch back and forth between Outline and Preview I can keep both Windows open and switch between them as only the window that has been switched to Outline loses the GPU functionality.

Same problem for me as well, only started happening at 25.3.1. Windows 10, Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000.

Having the same issue with v. 25.3.1 - Windows 10 Pro 20H2, NVIDIA 461.37 (RTX 2070 Super).
Same issue, only way to fix was to revert to an older version of Illustrator after trying everything, from driver updates to Windows updates.
Windows 10, RTX3070.
I have the same issue.
Same here, GPU is lost when Outline mode is used, but for me it's per document, closing and re-opening fixes it, but it's quite unworkable to be honest.
AI - 25.3.1
GPU - 2x RTX 3090
