View Using GPU Gets Greyed Out Permanently with Outline Mode
Hello, with fresh preferences, 'View using GPU' and scrubby zoom are enabled in Illustrator. if I turn on Outline Mode, Illustrator loses connection with my GPU. The 'View using GPU' option becomes greyed out and never restores. In order to get it back I have to delete my preferences. Here is my system info:
OS: Windows 10
GPU: 2 x NVIDIA Titan Black
RAM: 64 GB Memory
GPU Driver: Driver 460.89
Display: ASUS PQ321Q 4K
After having investigated the issue with some users , we have been able to find a reproducible scenario for this issue which is due to using a specific color profile which is Generic-CMYK.
Our team is working on fixing this issue on priority.Until the issue is fixed please follow the below steps as a workaround :
1. Go to Edit → Color Settings
2. Under Settings set the default color profile → North America General Purpose 2
Then try creating new document.
Incase with the above workaround still the issue is observed at your end, please let us know in the comments .
With Best Regards,
Aishwarya G Gadodia
Issue still exists on Windows 10, NVidia RTX 2080ti Studio driver 471.11 and Adobe Illustrator version 25.3.1 (also on a separate Windows 10 PC with RTX3070)
Switching to Outline view immediately switches from GPU to CPU and greys out GPU preview. Switching back from Outline to Preview the GPU options remains grey.
However this is only in the Window that was switched to Outline view. So as a workaround, opening a new Window in the same document (Window >New Window) gives GPU functionality in that new Window and the original window can be closed. If I want to switch back and forth between Outline and Preview I can keep both Windows open and switch between them as only the window that has been switched to Outline loses the GPU functionality.

Having the same issue with v. 25.3.1 - Windows 10 Pro 20H2, NVIDIA 461.37 (RTX 2070 Super).
Same issue, only way to fix was to revert to an older version of Illustrator after trying everything, from driver updates to Windows updates.
Windows 10, RTX3070.
I have the same issue.
Same here, GPU is lost when Outline mode is used, but for me it's per document, closing and re-opening fixes it, but it's quite unworkable to be honest.
AI - 25.3.1
GPU - 2x RTX 3090
Display- 2x 4K

Any more news on this as a fix? 25.3.1 still unusable.
This bug is haunting me, add rotate canvas return old bug mmm.
I too have NVIDIA 2080 Super
Another vote to say that this bug is back again with the latest update!!(25.3.1) Going into outline mode and boom! cannot went back to GPU preview unless close the app and pen again.
It was fixed a couple of version ago though...
The bug back again for me too.
NVIDIA 2080 Super
As noted by others the bug is back and still in 25.3.1.
Tested it with a brand new file. Worked fine with a blank artboard but as soon as anything as added the bug appeared.
Creating a new file in the same Illustrator session with the bugged file open in another tab works fine with the blank artboard until you add anything too it again.
NVIDIA GTX 1070
The bug is back in the new version 25.3.1
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti

This bug is back again for me.
Steps to repro:
Create new document
Add any kind of content (a single vertex will do)
Switch to Outline view - GPU is disabled
Switch back out of Outline view - GPU remains disabled
Saving and re-opening the document will re-enable GPU view, until outline is used again.
Illustrator Version: 25.3
OpenGL Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 451.77
GeForce RTX 2060
I am having similar issues with my GPU
OS : Windows 10
In the latest version (25.3 - Windows 10) after engaging Outline View (Ctrl-Y) the view now changes from GPU preview to CPU preview mode and will not revert to GPU preview mode until the file is closed and reopened.

Having the same problem with the GPU preview, it turns grey and can't go back to it after it happens, it renders the app useless.
OS: Mac OS Mojave
GPU: AMD Readeon Pro 580
RAM: 40 GB Memory
Here is a screen recording of the bug that I can recreate every time.
1. Image in a linked file placed in AI
2. Mask the image with red box
3. Move image around artboard in real time. Using GPU
4. Double click into mask. Note: Screen goes black.
5. Double click back to artboard.
6. Move image around artboard in real time. GPU greyed out and very very slow.
