Allow to save changes into the locked Arrowheads.ai file
So you are a smart one and figured out how to make your own arrowheads...
The help article tells how to do it (https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/stroke-object.html) and then the file itself has some instructions. But then you try to save the changes, and get an error message. You can't overwrite the file, because it’s locked by Ai, because it uses it to display arrowheads in their dropdown...
Currently you have to save the file someplace else, close Ai, wait a bit, replace the fil, launch Ai back. Very cool...
Then you realize you made a tiny mistake probably, and you…4 votes -
Eyedropper shortcut
If I have a box with a gradient stroke (as an example) and I want to then fill it, if I use the eyedropper to grab the color from another object, it overrides and deletes the stoke. I would like to be able to use the eyedropper on fill or stroke without deleting it's counterpart. Right now it's a long process of clicking off my shape, eyedropping the color, copying the color value, reselecting the object, double clicking the fill or stroke, and pasting in the value. It adds up to a lot of time lost for something that…
1 voteTo make Eyedropper pick and apply only fill, without modifying the stroke, you need to open the tool’s options, and uncheck the ‘Focal Stroke’ option in the left column. This will force Illustrator to ignore the stroke from the source object, and your target object will keep its original stroke.
Use other options there to fine tune the tool to your needs.

Disable smart guides to some specific object/layer
Hi there,
After using Illustrator for quite some time, I found there has one function I need the most.
Which is to disable smart guides to some specific object/layer.Smart guides are amazing but I found that they won't work well if I had a crazy vector texture background.
When I try to align to the main object I am working on, it will just try to align to background vector textures. Which is not ideal. So I have been thinking, could there have a feature, that disables smart guides to some specific object/layer, like we can lock anything that…

Print multiple artboards on one page (print only what's on the artboards, "ignore artboards" isn't the solution)
I think it'd be nice to be able to print only what's on multiple artboards onto one page. Right now the only option is to "ignore artboards", but that will print everything within the file, which doesn't work. The workaround is to save as a .pdf then print everything on one page from there, but this really shouldn't need a workaround, it should be an option within the print dialog.

Convert a Grid Repeat object to a pattern filled rectangle
As mentioned by Von Glitschka at https://twitter.com/Vonster/status/1530587235375927296 it would be great to have an automatic conversion of a grid repeat object into an exactly same looking artwork, but made with a rectangle filled with a newly generated pattern swatch a user can continue to work with.
Yes, we can expand it, release the clipping mask, find the module, clean the unnecessary duplicates, create a swatch, fill the former clipping mask with it, match the positioning exactly... all manually, or with a help of a script maybe.... but who does not like easy solutions? We do.

External arrowheads for small dimensions
The current Beta version is showing the new Dimensions tool, but as you can see in my screen shot, where I am working actual size, for the small dimensions it would help if there was an option to have the arrows outside the lines going toward the inside of the dimension rather than the outside. Thus leaving the small gap empty and making it visually clearer.

Unify Fill tool + gradient tool under properties (appearance)
Now we have 3 "ways" or windows to pick color from which is confusing. Unify everything under same roof like in other design apps.

Add 16px and 20px to the font-size drop down
With base rem being 16px, 16px has become the standard for readable text on a website. It would be good UX to have more base 4 standard font-sizes in the font-size select drop down.
7px, 9px, 11px and 21px are essentially useless to me but they have a seat in the dropdown, you could easily replace/swap a couple of them out for 16px and 20px. I don't know many designers, printers, or developers that use odd pixel sized fonts.

Save for Web dialog does not remember all customized settings
We create web posting formats of figures in Illustrator and my customized settings do not save. Why do we have the option of Save Settings....when they do not save?
File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy) > Name > Custom setting named and save.
The Custom setting retains one of the defaults, in my case PNG-24, but does not retain any numerical measurements that IO enter beneath it.
We save many files with the same specs for our web posts. Why do I have a custom option to Save Settings when they only save a default. What's the point?…

File synchronization fails for ai files saved with CC 2018
I sync my files across several computers using Unison (an rsync command line tool). Since updating, .ai files will not synchronize. I am running macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 and CC 2018 v 22.0.0 on the computers that I am syncing.
Steps to reproduce:
1. make ai file. A4 RGB layout with one text item. Save.
2. run Unison.
3. synchronization fails with message that the ai file does not exist on the other computer because it could not be renamed from the tmp version of the ai file that unison pulls from the other computer. Not sure if this is…
1 voteIllustrator currently doe snot support network drives or operations. However, the issue you describe seems to be operating system issue. Moving this as a feature request to support

Automatically update legacy format when saving...
When working on an older version of illustrator - when you save, you get a notice about saving in a legacy format. I would like a preferences option to automatically save in the latest version when working on legacy files. Right now I have to use save as.

New artboard adjustable spacing
When the New Artboard button in Control panel is clicked, an artboard is created next to the current one. The spacing between these is not tweakable.
I work in metric units, on 10×10 millimeters grid. The space between artboards’ edges is 7.056mm. Yeah, I know, it’s 20 points, sure, but why should I care about points when units are millimeters? Why can’t I use a value that makes sense to me?
Furthermore, it is dangerously close to 7 and looks like an integer until you check it.
Please, allow to set a spacing manually in Artboard Options or elsewhere…

Allow to disable 'Create PDF Compatible File' option when saving AIT templates
Compatibility with PDF takes a ton of disk space, and .ait templates don’t really need it, because these are no intended to be imported or placed — just launched. Perhaps you should disable it by default?
As I understand, these are actually just .ai files, but the different extension causes Ai to process them differently...
I don’t expect a full-blown dialog when saving, but why not?
Take a look at this related request:

PLEASE BRING BACK PEN TOOL!!! Curvature Tool SUCKS!!!
Please make a legacy option for the curvature tool to revert back to the Pen Tool I have been using the Pen Tool for like 20 years. I have found a work around by reverting back to an older Illustrator edition so I can again have that option. I WILL continue to do this because it is FAR more productive for me than using the curvature tool which I know well enough to say I am proficient in it. VERY UPSET HERE and I'm talking over a month of upset, not a bad day of upset. Thanks!! Adobe you…
5 votesHi Adam,
We have not changed the behavior or removed the pen tool, it still exists in the toolbar. Curvature Tool is a separate tool altogether, it has not replaced the Pen Tool.

Snap textframe size to content (like double-click in InDesign)
A function appreciated by all in InDesign.. doubleclick the side of the boundingbox of a textframe and it snaps/scales immediately to the content.
I'm not talking about Type -> Area Type Options -> Auto-size

Easily resize pattern
Would love to be able to easily resize the patterns within forms.
Right now I have to resize the object using the option "adapt the pattern" while doing the modifcation, and resize it back without the option.
Or make a new, big pattern within the pattern swatch. What would be useful is not having to leave your illustration or change the shape you would like to change the pattern that is applied to.
Maybe having a preview of your illustration with the changes you make on the pattern tab/window.2 votes -
Allow to nudge or rotate individual elements along the path for Objects on Path
Objects on Path needs more options and in its current setup is very limited in its usefulness. This tool feels like it's still in beta. Whilst it's good at doing the one thing it's designed to do, it's missing a lot of useful capabilities.
One of missing bits is the ability to nudge or rotate individual elements along the path.
Other two requests are:
1. Objects on Path needs an ability to keep orientation of objects relative to page/path, similar to blends — http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48984890
2. Add an option to measure gaps between objects in Objects on Path by their…9 votes -

Option for object size to take priority over corner radius
When resizing an object, corner radius should be automatically reduced to accommodate the new size rather than blocking the change until you manually reduce the corner radius
(toggle in the options?)1 voteThere is an option to toggle this behavior, in Preferences > General > Scale Corners. You can also tick it in the Transform panel.

Remember save locations and export naming conventions on a per-file basis.
Currently, Illustrator does not remember where you saved your files last and always defaults to the folder that your source file is in. I would prefer if it were to remember export locations on a per-file basis.
Similarly, with Export for Screens, the prefix and suffix options should be part of the individual file's metadata, not set globally.
