1. Stroke / Fille indicator sometimes in not in sync occasionally

   On Illustrator 30.5.1 (Windows 11), the fill/stroke indicator in the toolbox occasionally renders out of sync with the internal active-paint state. The indicator shows stroke brought to the front, but clicking a swatch edits the fill instead of the stroke. Pressing X two or three times forces the indicator to repaint, and afterwards the behavior is correct again.

   Steps to reproduce:
   1. Press X so that stroke becomes the active paint. The indicator shows stroke in front, as expected.
   2. Switch tools, use the Eyedropper, create a new object, or press D.
   3. Click a swatch (or pick a color in the Color panel).
   4. The fill changes, not the stroke, although the indicator still shows stroke in front.
   5. Press X repeatedly; the indicator redraws and the mismatch disappears.

   This looks like a repaint/refresh issue on the indicator rather than a logic error in the flag itself: the visual state lags behind the actual state, and a forced redraw reconciles them. Two things would help here:
   a. Repaint the fill/stroke indicator synchronously whenever the active-paint state changes, so the indicator can never display a stale state.
   b. Treat the active-paint state as a single source of truth consumed by the toolbox, Swatches, Color and Gradient panels, so that panels cannot disagree with the indicator.

2. Some manipulations with floating dock panels breaks the preferred width behavior

3. AI generation does not work, says 'Slow down'

   For several days now, whenever I try to create an image using the AI image generator, I receive a message saying, “Slow down,” even when it's the first image I attempt to generate that day.

   Sometimes, I'm able to generate one image by switching from my Ethernet connection to Wi-Fi or by connecting to my company's VPN, but this generally only works once.

   This is not an issue related to my AI credits, as I still have 3,350 out of 4,000 credits remaining.

   This is particularly frustrating because, due to this issue, I have been unable to use the credits allocated to me, and I am going to lose them in two days because of this bug.

5. A border around active artboard, colored as a guide

   Complaint! The new highlighted border around the active artboard is extremely distracting when trying to assess a design as a whole. This was not present until a recent update. Please add an option to disable this highlight entirely, or at minimum let us customize its color and width.

6. Live text isn’t visible in linked .ai files

   I link to .ai files to create client proofs. This way I can edit original full size artwork and have the letter sized presentation deck auto update once linked file is saved.

   Live text does not display in linked instance of .ai files. Once text is outlined in full size file is becomes visible in linked instance.

7. Swatch window is unresponsive/acting strangely?

   I'm finding since updating to Illustrator 30.8.2 (Mac OS 27.0.1) that the swatch windows are behaving strangely? For example, if I select a colour in the swatch window, two will 'highlight' or sometimes not at all, or when I select a colour as part of artwork on an artboard, the colour doesn't highlight in the swatch window?

   I'm also having trouble dragging colours to reposition them within the swatch window?

   Is this a known issue?

8. Freezing after clicking Settings...

   On the MacBook, if I click Settings... (which is the normal operation for most apps) instead of just hovering over it and picking one of the sub-categories, Illustrator freezes and I have to force stop it.

11. Fonts not "resolving"

    The fonts do not resolve, get picked up and installed, or re-installed on resolve missing fonts. I have to "resolve" them several times or delete and then reinstall. The whole process takes quite awhile. I wish the fonts would not go away, although "Anton" said it was still installed on my web font profile and my CC app.

12. Temporary files created when working in Illustrator 2026

    Anytime I open an Ai file now all these temp files appear... in all my years of Illustrator never seen this. Yes, they normally disappear, but why are they even showing? They get left over too if there’s a crash which I get, but why are they appearing where the AI file lives now? I’d assume this was happening in library in the past...

13. Poor support for copies made with <use> syntax when importing SVGs

    Adobe Illustrator has a well-known, long-standing bug when importing SVG files.

    In the SVG code, to reduce file size, I originally used a syntax called <use> (array copy) to generate the 91 vents, fan screw holes, and 36 gear teeth. However, Illustrator has very poor support for this "copy syntax," causing it to "lose" all of these elements during reading, resulting in an empty panel and bare circles.

14. Errant Connection Issues Using Concept to Vector Feature

    Concept to Vector consistently fails for a particular image with an apparent connection error.

    The generation process runs and appears to complete normally. However, at the end of the process, Illustrator displays:

    “Cannot generate results due to connection issues. Please check your internet and try again.”

    I have repeated the operation several times over the past two days with the same result. My internet connection is functioning normally. I also successfully completed a previous image using Concept to Vector, so the feature has worked correctly in the same general environment.

    Because the error occurs after the generation process appears to complete and is repeatable with this image, the reported “connection issue” may not accurately identify the underlying cause.

    Expected: Generated vector results are returned.

    Actual: Generation ends with a connection-error message and no results.

    Reproducibility: Consistent across multiple attempts.

    Severity: Major — produces inconsistent ink coverage between identical copies on the same artboard; breaks color-critical prepress output
    Reproducibility: 100% deterministic across both tested versions

    1. Summary When an object filled with a Freeform Gradient is duplicated with Object ▸ Transform ▸ Move (Copy) / Step and Repeat without first applying Object ▸ Expand Appearance, the resulting PDF contains one independent Type 4 shading stream per copy, and Illustrator re-derives each copy's mesh differently:

    The triangle tessellation is recomputed per copy (vertex count changes: 2481 → 2463).
    The /Decode array is expanded far beyond the object's /BBox, by an amount that is a linear function of the imposition offset — i.e. the X quantization domain is polluted by the Y-direction layout coordinate.
    This affects both the visible shading layer (DeviceCMYK) and the soft-mask shading layer (DeviceGray, inside the /SMask``/G form).
    Because PDF Reference 1.7 §4.6 states that a shading's interior colors are produced by interpolation bounded only by the smoothness tolerance, and explicitly warns that "Linear interpolation… may have observably different results when applied in a DeviceCMYK color space", each RIP interpolates a different mesh with a different quantization grid. The result: the same artwork at the same relative position renders to different ink totals on different copies, and the magnitude/direction of the deviation varies by RIP.

    Applying Expand Appearance before duplicating eliminates the problem completely — all 8 shading streams become byte-identical. This confirms the defect is in the non-expanded Freeform Gradient export path.

    Expected behavior: duplicated Freeform Gradient objects that are geometrically identical should produce identical shading data (or at minimum identical tessellation and identical /Decode domains), so that every RIP renders all copies the same way.

    Actual behavior: each copy gets its own divergent mesh and quantization domain.

    1. Steps to reproduce Create a CMYK document. Draw a rectangle (test object: 520.24 × 265.12 pt). Fill it with a Freeform Gradient (Gradient tool ▸ Freeform Gradient ▸ Points), using several CMYK color stops. Do not apply Object ▸ Expand Appearance. Select the object, use Object ▸ Transform ▸ Move…, tick Copy, and use Step and Repeat (Ctrl+D) to produce 8 copies arranged 2 columns × 4 rows on one artboard (column step 546.00 pt, row step 269.29 pt). File ▸ Save As ▸ Adobe PDF (also reproduces with PDF/X-4 preset). Inspect the resulting shading objects. Expected: 8 copies → identical mesh topology, identical vertex colors, identical /Decode domain width. Actual: 8 copies → 8 distinct shading streams, 2 distinct vertex counts, 8 distinct /Decode domains.

    When using Concept to Vector, the process consistently fails approximately halfway through execution.

    Instead of explaining why the operation failed, Illustrator displays the following message:

    "Please slow down and try again later."

    The operation is then aborted.

    The message does not provide enough information to understand the cause of the failure or how to resolve it. It is unclear whether the issue is related to service availability, account limitations, usage limits, network connectivity, the source image, or another factor.

    As a result, the only available option is to repeatedly retry the operation without knowing whether the problem is temporary or whether some action is required on the user's side.

    The failure occurs during processing rather than during upload or validation of the image.

17. If an artboard has a space character at the end of its name, it won’t get exported as an SVG silently

    1. Create 2 artboards and draw something on each
    2. Rename the first to be 'OK'
    3. Rename the second, add a space character at the end of the second artboard’s name — 'Not OK '
    4. Export SVGs: makes sure you have 'Use Artboards' enabled Ai would generate only the 'OK.svg' only, the second file is missing. Removing the space characters makes it work.

    Description
    Adobe Illustrator 30.8.2 does not detect my AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU.
    Under Edit > Preferences > Performance, Illustrator displays:
    “Compatible GPU: Not Available” and the GPU Performance option is unavailable.
    System configuration
    - Adobe Illustrator: 30.8.2
    - Operating System: Windows 11 Home 25H2
    - GPU: AMD Radeon RX 580 Series
    - VRAM: 8 GB
    - AMD Driver: Adrenalin Edition 26.5.2 WHQL
    - WDDM: 3.1
    - Direct3D DDI: 12
    - RAM: 16 GB
    - Architecture: 64-bit
    Problem
    Windows correctly detects the Radeon RX 580 and DirectX is working normally.
    The Windows DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) reports:
    - Radeon RX 580 Series
    - Approximately 8 GB of dedicated VRAM
    - Direct3D Acceleration: Enabled
    - DirectDraw Acceleration: Enabled
    - WDDM 3.1
    - Direct3D DDI: 12
    - No problems found
    Windows Graphics Settings is also configured to run Adobe Illustrator 2026 using:
    High Performance → Radeon RX 580 Series
    However, Illustrator still reports:
    “Compatible GPU: Not Available”
    Additional evidence
    The Illustrator System Report correctly identifies:
    Adobe Illustrator 2026 30.8.2
    and Windows 11 64-bit.
    However, under:
    GPU Information
    the section is completely empty. Illustrator does not report any GPU information there.
    This suggests that Illustrator is failing to detect the GPU internally, rather than simply disabling GPU performance after detecting an unsupported GPU.

    Troubleshooting already performed
    1. Updated the AMD Radeon RX 580 driver to Adrenalin Edition 26.5.2 WHQL.
    2. Restarted the computer after the driver installation.
    3. Confirmed that Windows correctly recognizes the RX 580.
    4. Confirmed through dxdiag that Direct3D 12 is active and functioning.
    5. Confirmed that Windows assigns the Radeon RX 580 to Illustrator as the High Performance GPU.
    6. Restarted Illustrator.
    7. Reset Illustrator preferences.
    8. The issue persists after all of the above.
    Expected behavior
    Illustrator should recognize the Radeon RX 580 as a compatible GPU and allow GPU Performance to be enabled.

    Actual behavior
    Illustrator continues to display:
    “Compatible GPU: Not Available”
    even though the GPU is correctly recognized by Windows, Direct3D 12 is active, the latest AMD driver is installed, and Windows is configured to use the RX 580 for Illustrator.
    Request
    Please investigate GPU detection for AMD Radeon RX 500 Series / Polaris GPUs in Illustrator 30.8.2, particularly on Windows 11 25H2.
    The GPU works correctly at the Windows/DirectX level, but Illustrator appears unable to detect it internally.
    I can provide the complete Illustrator System Report, DirectX diagnostic information, screenshots, and any additional diagnostic files required.

    o Illustrator apresenta:

    “GPU compatível não disponível”

    e a opção Desempenho da GPU permanece indisponível.

    O relatório de informações do sistema gerado pelo próprio Illustrator também apresenta a seção “Informações de GPU” vazia, em vez de identificar a Radeon RX 580.

    Verificações realizadas

    1. O driver da Radeon RX 580 foi atualizado para o AMD Adrenalin Edition 26.5.2 WHQL.
    2. O computador foi reiniciado após a atualização.
    3. O Windows reconhece corretamente a Radeon RX 580.
    4. O DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) reconhece a Radeon RX 580 com aproximadamente 8 GB de VRAM.
    5. O dxdiag informa:
       • Direct3D acceleration: Enabled
       • DirectDraw acceleration: Enabled
       • WDDM 3.1
       • Direct3D DDI: 12
       • Nenhum problema encontrado.
    6. Em Configurações do Windows > Sistema > Tela > Gráficos, o Adobe Illustrator 2026 está configurado como: Alto desempenho (Radeon RX 580 Series).
    7. As opções de otimização gráfica do Windows para o Illustrator também foram testadas.
    8. O Illustrator foi reiniciado.
    9. As preferências do Illustrator foram redefinidas, mas o problema de GPU permaneceu.

    Evidência adicional

    O relatório do sistema do Illustrator identifica corretamente o aplicativo como:

    Adobe Illustrator 2026 30.8.2

    e identifica o sistema como Windows 11 64-bit, porém a seção:

    Informações de GPU

    permanece sem informações.

    Isso indica que o Illustrator não está simplesmente desabilitando uma GPU reconhecida. Ele parece não estar detectando a GPU dentro do próprio aplicativo.

    O Illustrator deveria reconhecer a Radeon RX 580 como uma GPU compatível e permitir ativar:

    Solicitação

    Gostaria que a equipe do Illustrator investigasse a detecção de GPUs AMD Radeon RX 500 Series/Polaris no Illustrator 30.8.2, especialmente em sistemas com Windows 11 25H2.

    Acredito que o problema esteja na detecção/compatibilidade da GPU dentro do Illustrator, e não no hardware, no driver ou no funcionamento da GPU no Windows.

19. New guides are useless to me.

    At the very least, automatically put them into their own layer where I can easily find them and then lock them if I wish. I also find your feedback system to be punitive to your customers.

20. ExtendScript gives && and || equal precedence

    "I found this while debugging something that made no sense, and because I once reported a "bug" to Adobe that turned out to be my own syntax error, I checked it on several versions before posting.

    ExtendScript evaluates && and || at the same precedence level, left to right. So a || b && c is parsed as (a || b) && c instead of the correct a || (b && c). ECMAScript requires && to bind tighter.

    Two lines, no document needed:

    alert(true || false && false);

    // prints "false", should print "true"

    Confirmed on:

    Illustrator 30.8.1, ExtendScript 4.5.6, Windows

    Illustrator CS6 16.0.0, ExtendScript 4.2.12, Windows

    Illustrator 30.8.2, macOS (confirmed by Monika Gause)

    Line for line identical across all three. Other precedences are fine, I tested ternary, arithmetic, bitwise, typeof, in and instanceof. It really is just these two operators.

    Both readings agree almost all the time. They diverge only when the first operand is truthy and the last one is falsy, which is how it can sit in a codebase for years without surfacing.

    What made it visible for me was minification. I write a || (b && c) in the source. Closure Compiler ADVANCED removes those parentheses, because in standard JavaScript they genuinely are redundant, and its output is correct JS. ExtendScript then reads it the other way round and the conditional logic silently inverts.

    So Closure is not at fault either. Two individually correct things meeting in the wrong place.

    My workaround is a post-compile pass that re-adds parentheses around any && that is a direct operand of ||, then verifies the standard JS AST has not changed.

    If you ship minified ExtendScript, this is worth checking."
