Type properties panel bug
Every time when changing a text's properties and deselecting it the text is reverted to size 12. Also when a different colour is applied to part of the text and deselecting it, the colour is applied to the whole text. The situation is the same with different font styles - setting part of the text in bold will result that everything is changed to bold when deselected. It happens every time.
We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 23.0.
Please refer to our knowledge base FAQ – https://illustrator.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/1844590 if you face difficulty in update.

Illustrator 24.0 still has text sizing issues. The program is constantly changing text sizes I enter into the Character setting panel. Fix this Adobe!

This crazy stuff happens when I start changing anything in the Character panel. Upon save, my changes are undone and bounding boxes disappear! So sick of Illustrator and Adobe at that.
I am thinking of an option:
1. Call Adobe
2. Get refund for latest Adobe CC subscription
3. Drag all Adobe garbage to the trash
4. Empty the trash
5. Look for new job -

Still broken. I started using Illustrator 88 (yup, I'm that old!) after starting in Freehand and hating it. But these constant bugs are making me look at alternatives to the whole creative suite (Dreamweaver has already been moved to the back seat in favour of better coding tools). I have to give kudos to John Bradley for his suggestion of using the mouse scroll instead of dragging down the select menu - it works. I hate changing my behaviour to get around bugs, but it works.

This has not been fixed. If anything it's worse.
I ended up running a $3000 project because of the type glitches that keep happening. Select one area and it changes on a previous area that wasn't selected. The bounding boxes are always disappearing and it is constantly shutting down or I have to restart it to get it back to normal. I'm losing valuable time quitting the program and restarting 10 times a day. I have this on my Mac at work and my MacBook Pro same issues on both doesn't matter what fonts I'm using.
Glitches and crashes a plenty. This needs to be fixed.
Been using illustrator for 15 years. I have NEVER had issues. The cloud is the worst thing ever. I want to go back to the old versions.

As others have stated, this bug has NOT been fixed in 22.1. Apply a paragraph styles to text, and text is formatted correctly. Apply an OVERRIDE to a portion of the text (e.g. make one word italic), and the format of the style is completely lost--the text will be italic, but all other attributes (defined by the style) are lost (and revert back to the default).

Same problem for me still exists in CC 22.1. When changing the font style of text that already has a paragraph style, the selected text changes to 12pt no matter what size it was previously.

Anonymous: as this issue has (incorrectly) been marked "completed", I believe they aren't even seeing our additional comments.
I started a new thread here, which has also been ignored. Perhaps if it got a second vote they'd at least acknowledge it, though I have my doubts.

I have updated to CC 22.1 and the behavior is not fixed -- type reverts to 12 pt, and when type styles are applied to a given range of text, the selected type's settings are not shown in the Character palette or the quick menu above -- only the default character style settings are shown in the palettes.

Correction. Some of my complaints were introduced in CC2017. I just reinstalled some older versions, and see that I had to go back to CC2015.3 to have the character style not override the size of the paragraph text when left unspecified in the character style.

Text handling in the 22.1 build is still fraught with bugs and/or undesired oddity compared to version 21.
---
Open Illustrator 22.1 (Windows) and create a new blank document.
Draw a text box and fill it with placeholder text.
Create a new paragraph style (‘body text’) and set the font, size, and leading to something different from the default. (e.g. font: 10pt Avenir LT Std Book, 16pt leading).
PROBLEM 1: Select a word or words in the text and change the style (by pulling down the list in the Character panel) to (for example) ‘Black’ instead of ‘Book’. The selected text leaps to 12pt/14.4pt leading, though it does stay in the chosen font.
PROBLEM 2: Undo. The selected text reverts to Avenir Book, but stays at 12pt/14.4pt.
PROBLEM 3: Undo a second time. The selected text goes back to the original state (Avenir Book 10pt/16pt), but the entire block of text is now selected (?!?).
Deselect.WEIRDNESS: Select a few words, and change the style (again, to Black), but this time do it by clicking in the Style box in the Character panel and scrolling through the values via the mouse wheel or the up/down arrows – not by pulling down the menu and making a direct selection. The text correctly changes style without changing its size.
Delete the entire text box. Draw a new one. Make sure the ‘body text’ style is selected in the Paragraph Styles panel and fill with placeholder text.
PROBLEM/WEIRDNESS: The text displays in the correct style (Avenir Book 10/16), but in the Paragraph Styles panel the ‘body text’ line has a ‘+’ after it, indicating that the text doesn’t match the saved style in some way. Also, in the Character panel, the leading shows no value (empty space) in the control. And the pulldown menu in the Paragraph Styles panel has ‘clear overrides’ dimmed out...
Further WEIRDNESS: If one then selects some words and opens the Leading pulldown menu (in the Character panel), it shows 16pt as the first item in the list (above ‘Auto’ and the list of default sizes), with a checkmark... it just isn’t displaying inside the text box.
Close the document and Illustrator.
---
Start Illustrator and create a new document.Draw a text box and fill with placeholder text. Click outside the box to remove the keyboard focus (and cursor) from the contents, but leave the text box object itself selected.
Create a new Paragraph Style in the Paragraph Styles panel, called ‘body text’, font settings ‘Avenir Book 10/16’.
WEIRDNESS: The displayed text updates correctly, there’s no ‘+’ after the style name in the Paragraph Styles panel... but the Character panel still shows ‘Myriad Pro Regular 12/14.4’. De-selecting the text box and re-selecting it gets the Character panel to update (‘Avenir Book 10/16’).
---
Start Illustrator and create a new document.
Draw a text box and fill with placeholder text. Click outside the box to remove the keyboard focus (and cursor) from the contents, but leave the text box object itself selected.
Create a new Paragraph Style in the Paragraph Styles panel, called ‘body text’, font settings ‘Avenir Book 10/16’. Deselect and reselect the text box to get the Character panel correctly updated.
Select a few words. Then, in the Character Styles panel create a new character style called ‘italic’. Set the font to Avenir, Book Oblique, but do not touch the size or leading boxes.
Close the dialog box and click the character style name to apply it to the selected text.
Select an entire paragraph (or several) that includes the italicized text. In the Paragraph panel, change the size/leading to, say, 8pt/20pt. Everything works as it should.
Deselect everything and double-click the ‘italic’ style name in the Character Styles box to verify that the style displays no values in the size or leading controls, nor in the text summary, implying that size/leading are not specified and will not be affected/overridden by this character style.
Select the previously italicized text. The character style name shows as ‘italic+’ indicating that the selected text doesn’t match its character style definition, even though it should.
PROBLEM: Select some other text in the same paragraph. Click ‘italic’ in the Character Styles panel. The selected text changes size to 10/16, even though the size was explicitly not specified as part of the Character Style definition.
----
I could go on.

Create a new document. Draw out a large text box roughly the size of the page. Fill with placeholder text to “Lorem ipsum” it.
Select the first paragraph’s worth of text. By default (on my system) it’s set to Myriad Pro, Regular, 12pt, auto (14.4pt) leading.
Change the font size and leading to 16pt / 20pt.
Select any word in the paragraph, and change the font style to ‘bold’ or anything else. It does, and behaves as one would like and expect.
Undo that change.
With the paragraph selected, click ‘new’ in the Paragraph Styles panel, and click the new style to make the selected text use it.
Select any word in the paragraph and change the font style from Regular to Bold (or whatever).
The font style changes, but so does the font size, reverting back to the 12pt / 14.4pt defaults.
This renders paragraph styles largely unusable, if I can't override a word or phrase in order to bold/italicize it without having to manual set the font size and leading in the Character panel. (And any words modified in that way will no longer be tied to the font size/leading in the paragraph style, so if I tweak the overall sizing to fit the page, I'd have to re-tweak any individual overrides as well.)
It didn't used to be this way, prior to ver 22.

1. Apply a paragraph style to a sentence.
2. Select one word in that paragraph, and change the font.
3. Not only does the font change, but the size and lead revert to the default! This is a HUGE problem, as I use paragraph styles all the time, and I frequently want to change JUST the font for some characters.

Hi Sveto,
Thanks for the reply,Illustrator Team really appreciate this.
We are able to reproduce your issues in house. They are under review.I would request you to use the below steps and see if this resolves your issue as a workaround:
Workaround 1)After Creating Second text asset first change the font size then size will not reduce to 12
Workaround 2)Set Font Size in char Style it will remain set to size mentioned in char style ,then it will not reduced to 12.Regards

Hello, thank you for your response and sorry for the late reply. The coloring issue is really random, I'm not sure what triggers it, some days it happens a lot the other not at all. Basically it is something like in linked video, when selecting different text weight it jumps down to 12 and changes color to black (but now always). Link for the video:
I'll try to reproduce the colouring issue and share a video here.
Kind regards,
Sveto.
