Illustrator CC 2019 is very slow and laggy
I'm using a Mac OS 10.13 Intel Core i7 16 GB. Ever since I updated to the CC 2019, illustrator became laggy and slow. The other adobe apps worked fine after the update. I saw here that I should try turning the dictation off but that didn't help.
Everything in illustrator is slow now. And if I use the blend tool a lot in one document the eyedropper option in the gradient window becomes unavailable. Everything even if it's as simple as moving from one art board to the next or zooming in/out is lagging

My mouse has been lagging in Only Illustrator for about a year now. Lags, click locks without the option set to "on." Very frustrating.

I hated Adobe Illustrator, it got really slow

So far I have been unable to notice any significant performance boost in the beta build. When trying to move/copy a complex selection from one file to another the program also crashed. Also, when opening PDFs that have been saved without Illustrator compatibility enabled the fonts are not being converted well at all. Specific text is alternating from lowercase to uppercase. Probably will uninstall due to this flaw alone.
I'd also be curious how older pre-Adobe CC versions of Illustrator are working on people experiencing performance issues. Has anyone here tried running any older versions such as CS2-CS6?

Hello.
I noticed that AI have a few times slowdown response on new intel I9-9900K processors AND displays >4K mostly with separations_preview_ON +overprint_preview_ON. Sometimes the same slowdown without options above but with very heavy project. Work was very slow and dificult, almost impossible, zoom/pan >= 30 to 60sec! GPUboost default set to OFF (cause errors - I work in a printhouse and must see what I get :) and be fast!) BTW. GPU set to ON doesn't helps in this case.
Only solution which helps was reduce available cores to half (4+4HT) and AI seems to work like on previous machine (i7-7700K), fast and responsible. But doing this in the bios you degrade all system efficiency. Probably set afiinity AI process to 4(8HT) do the same job. Not tested yet.
(Adobe > compiler fault? >4cores/multi fault?)
I'm on PC/i9/W10/32GB/NVME/1050TI/1xEIZO4K+2xEIZOFHD/WACOM/GRETAG/ETC...
Sorry, dont know how to do above on newest Macs.
Hope this help and will lead you to the right solution. -

Having the same issues with the new update of Ilustrator with my iMac, I can't even change a text or a basic function, it's so slow and doesn't respond to my shortcut keys and moves weirdly with my mouse, I never used to have this issue before. This cannot continue, how can I fix this?

Thanks for the update, Rama.
I tried the build, but for me there is no significant change... The pan and zoom are still sluggish. -

i have a similar issue but overly noticable when saving complex pdfs. on a top of the line 2017 macbook pro it takes not much over 1 min. and on a brand new build 3950x, 64gb ram, 2080 super GPU it takes longer by about 30 seconds, the resources never exceed 10% usage on the pc but illustrator just freezes up until the pdf is made.
spoke with adobe help 3 times and in the end they just said there is an 'efficiency' issue with illustrator on that computer. no idea if it will ever be resolved, but its crazy that a computer with 4x the processing power and ram is slower than a machine with less power. clearly a fundamental issue with how Illustrator is using hardware/resources and explains why so many people with high spec machines are being outperformed by older and less capable computers. Crazy!

Hi to everyone, try to disable the font smoothing on system preferences/general! : )

Working with only one layer. And the programme still takes a few seconds only to do simple tasks like zoom in and out or move across the artboard. Note that I'm using the latest macbook pro. It's so unbearable!! Adobe please fix this!!

After the update it got better but it's still an issue. This happens more often when editing smart objects from Photoshop

Hey guys,
What I found is really interesting ! High refresh rate of the screen for exmaple in the ipad pro 2gen (120hz) improved drasticly smoothnes and resposivness of the Illustrator app. Also decreases much more the delay when resizing vector shape like rectangle, circle or triangle.. And today I have made a second test and I have plugged my gaming monitor (refresh rate 144hz) to the iMac and the Illustrator is super fast, smooth and responsive. TOday I;m switichm my mainly screen because of that. Of course the color accurcy and gamut are poor on my gaming monitor but I can test it on second display but for now the fast app is more common that color accurcy during work.
This is wired because high refresh monitor are not common in graphic design, because of lack of color accuracy and gamut. The best graphic monitors are on 60hz refresh rate. So Adobe Team you have to work on that an you know it because I send you an e-mail with this temporary solution. -

Re: Austin's Disable Wacom Note
Just to confirm, the Wacom/devices setting changed did not improve my performance. I wouldn't be surprised that another monitor has different results based on some of the feedback here.

There is a setting:
Preferences > DevicesIn this setting you will find "Enable Wacom".
Turn this setting off (uncheck) and then restart illustrator.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I THINK I FOUND A TEMPORARY SOLUTION to the illustrator massive lag and stuttering bug that many people are experiencing. (I'm including a lot of words here for search purposes).Fixed the massive stuttering issues I was having, and smoothed out illustrator massively with my variable refresh rate screen and 120hz monitor display.

Thanks, now it's worse than ever. Instead of fixing the problem, the Adobe team came up with the idea to disable GPU rendering when opening Illustrator. Now I have to manually enable it again every time the program crashes.

Any news on a fix? The problem is still persisting for me after going through the recent checklist of possible solutions.

The video is private, you'll need to make it public for others to view it Tomek.
This hardware incompatibility or major difference on certain builds and resolutions is what needs to be addressed. 300 posts deep of people mostly unhappy with the current state of Illustrator. Can Adobe please confirm if this issue will be addressed? This is a major issue for us having it but updates keep on overlooking this issue, which is a bit of a letdown each time.

Here is the newest video I've made that the problem is still there:
https://youtu.be/yOqDoui5SzoWhat I found is really interesting. On macOS Catalina 10.15.5 (iMac 2019 i9 3,6ghz, 1TB SSD, 72gb RAM, Pro Vega 8GB) & (MBP 16inch i9 2,4ghz,64GB RAM, 1TBSSD, 550M 8GB) when you available side car on your iPad Pro by WiFi Connection (mine is 12,9-inch, 2nd gen) and you move only the window from imac screen to ipad with project from Illustrator, the whole application is smoother and the laggy/delay feeling is much more noticeable but still exist also when you want to resize shapes or move the canvas around the delay/lagginess is much more smaller. When you move the whole application to the ipad screen is much more responsive and behavior is better than on iMac. The iPad screen is on resolution 1366 x 1024. So there is a big problem with the App not with the OS System or macs hardware. It's still not a good performance but is better to work on this smaller screen than make something on iMac or even Mac Book Pro 16-inch.
Where is the problem Adobe ? Near me I have PC Machine with Ryzen 2600 and GTX 1070 qith 16gb and the Illustrator is super smooth. No problem with delayed resizing shapes, drunk mouse point, where I can't target on anchor point quickly (something like mouse accelerate or easing is on the Illsutrator App only) of course moving around whole canvas is very laggy on iMac/MBP but on PC machine is smooth and responsive.
Dev Team when can you solve this issue! iIt's from late 2014/2013 when the first retina screen comes in on iMacs & MBP! 7 years to fix it and you focus on next features where the working on app is a disaster ! Why do we need new functions when you can't barely work on the application! Why buy new, more powerful computers if it doesn't make a difference anyway?
I'm really pissed off ! I live from the graphic design and its really hard to work on Illustrator. I think I will assume a case where due to difficulties in software I did not complete my job on time and compensating for costs incurred (monthly feed and extension of the deadline) !

Yesterday, I got automated update to Illustrator 2020 24.3.1 version, since then
everything is working very slow and I am getting lags in all the thing I select and click in the software.(selecting, filling, moving objects) Without selection, the cursor drags around the page area and goes outside the artboard area even if I move the mouse without clicking with the mouse.
