Allow to close Perspective Grid widget with any tool active, not only with Perspective Tools
MANY users don’t know how to disable Perspective Grid.
They don’t know about the View > Perspective Grid > Hide Grid menu command, and don’t even try to search for it, because they think that little 'x' is the only way to hide it...
...but that button only works when you have Perspective Grid Tool or Perspective Selection Tool picked, and does nothing when you have some other tool chosen.
The button never looks deactivated and lie to us about being clickable.
This modality makes zero sense.

Add CAD path creation/modification tools
Some wonderful tools that would help are Trim, Extend, and Corner tools.
Trim allows you to stop a line at another line. So if you drew a + you could trim the top to the - and make a T.
Extend does the opposite. It makes a line longer until it hits a target line. It turns |- into a T (rotated).
Corner tool trims or extends two lines as need to make a corner. |- becomes L by clicking both lines.
Look to AutoCad or Revit for examples.

After AI crashes, list of Recent Files should be restored as it was BEFORE crash
AI crashes quite often. Every time I relaunch it, I see documents in 'File > Open Recent Files' that I opened long-long ago.
AI seems to save this list only after successful closing, which is RARE.Just make AI store list of recent documents elsewhere every time document is opened and restore it after crash.

Quick Look support for .ai files in MacOS
Selecting a file in the MacOS Finder and then pressing spacebar to preview the file is one of the great features of the OS. It works with image files of many types as well as PDF files, etc. But not .ai files. Please build a Quick Look extension to add this support. Thanks.

Please add legacy menus and tools as a workspace
Please, please add legacy menus and tools as an option for a workspace. I have been using AI 3 for years on my old G5 and recently went to a new iMac and bought the full line monthly for all Adobe programs. Acrobat is so much better, PS is tolerable, but AI is near impossible! Everything has moved, the tools react differently and I'm having a heck of a time trying to find everything! AI 2023 does not associate AI and EPS files correctly
Problem: after installing AI 2023 (vai CC update process) all of the .ai and .eps files are not associated with AI 2023 in Windows 11. The files now show up as "unknown filetype" and the AI 2023 EXE is not in the normal place.
This should never be a problem. Its not a problem with other CC updates, PDF files, PSD files, ext...

One Standard Between Adobe Application Tools
In PS I can use the several tool and click and holding Shift key and click on a point on the other end. This will either erase or paint a corresponding line at the other end.
Is this not a feature inside AI?
Appears in AI I have to hold the left mouse key and drag to get the eraser to draw a straight line..

Make AI remember active layer and reselect it when file is opened
I have some templates, where working layer is not topmost (others are locked and/or hidden).
But AI always set focus on the topmost one when file is loaded. So when I or other people try to edit freshly opened/created file, they have have a message about lock/visibility.

Drag tools from one toolbar to another
When I setup tool panels for various reasons), I can’t just drag it between tool panels.
The only way to do it now is to remove the tool first in the first toolbox and add it again in the second one. Each panel has its own Edit mode and tools get dragged only within an edited panel :(14 votes -
Hide Numbers Option for Dimension Tool
Hello,
I'd like to add the hide option for the numbers. I'm actually doing a floor plan, I want people to input by hand the numbers they see on the design by measuring with the real dimensions and have to hide the numbers by adding a shape over the numbers so people won't get confused with the numbers.

Ai Feels Old and Unintuitive Next to New Adobe Products
Illustrator feels old. I find myself trying to do more and more vector work in XD or Photoshop simply because Ai feels like something from the 90s. There is very little consistency in how things work in Ai versus the other adobe apps. Swatches from CC are endlessly frustrating. Too many tools appear to do the same thing slightly differently. The app seems to assume everything will eventually be printed.
I know this is very general, but perhaps a new vector creation tool is needed in the lineup. I've tried Draw and Sketch on the iPad but they also feel…2 votes -

similar to compare PDF's in acrobat - the ability to compare differences between ai documents. this is useful sometime if comparing artworks pre press or outlined versions compared to live type.

Search for tools by name when editing the toolbar
When editing the tools that are in the toolbar we are confronted with a big panel full of tools. The recent update that categorizes them and allows for a grid view is very helpful. However, I still find myself scrolling down and up trying to find the particular tool I would like to add to the toolbar because it's so easy to miss it. An option to disable "Save as PDF compatible" as default when saving .ai files
I do a lot of large signage projects with a lot of imported large PSD files. For years I have pulled my hair out waiting for these files to save, even though the images were linked and not embedded. I finally discovered that if I turn off save as PDF compatible when I save the AI file, it saves a lot quicker! Please turn off the save as PDF compatible default when saving. Make an option to show points' handles when part of the path is transformed live
I often modify part of the path or single point with basic tools. For examples, it's quite convenient to select one point and rotate it, if I want to change the angle of it's handles, or scale it, if I want both rotate and scale. Unfortunately, AI hides handles when I drag my selection with a chosen tool. It makes sense in general, but I would like to have an option not to hide it, so I could see where my handles are all the time of transformation.

Save as multiple files in AI format
Only me who wants to save multiple files, in AI-format, from one document full of many pages? As it is today one can only check "Use pages" and choose page numbers if format EPS, PDF and SVG is picked. I find AI better to import into After Effects than EPS. That's why I want to save multiple files in AI format. Haven't tried SVG though... does SVG work in After Effects?

Option to have AI prompt me instead of me promptng AI
A feature set we need is for Adobe to allow natural language descriptions for automating process steps and allow AI to suggest alternative methods or workflow where possible and allow training-on-the-fly for how-to steps based upon stylistic and other choices I make when prompted with options by AI iteratively.
This would bring the power of AI to a “train me, don’t show me” type of assistance where AI suggests steps, tools, and options that I might use to create the effects or results I am envisioning. One great beauty in this is that I am…1 vote -
Learn to link / place .ai files saved without PDF compatibility (PGF only)
I know, why would you. A PDF-layer is basically a composite flattened layer Ai writes into an .ai document, and just reads it when the file is placed: in Photoshop, in InDesign. Handy, yeah?
Not really. Saving a document without the compatibility is so much faster. The non-compatible files are so much lighter (especially with heavy raster links used within). OK, Ps and InD can’t read PGF (Progressive Graphics Format, the one that’s native for Ai)... but Ai can.
Why not reading linked .ai docs as they are and THEN keep it’s PDF representation within the destination…

Keyboard shortcut to hide/show selected layer / object
Option to assign a keyboard shortcut for hide/show selected layer / object. Currently you have to click on the eye icon, which is pretty cumbersome. (for eg Photoshop has this feature, I think).
(I'm on a project where you need to trace this huge sketch with ready made elements and so toggle layer visibility is a fast way to see how things are aligning.) Cheers!

Please give us better Transparency tool like in CorelDraw and Affinity Designer
I'm fighting between working in Affinity Designer and Illustrator, AD has much better drawing tools, it's faster than Ai, but I love the familiarity of Ai. If you can give us better Gradient and Transparency tools like in AD that would be amazing! It would help speed up the coloring process when making more realistic artwork. See Screen shot from AD.
