  1. Align text vertically

    Allow text to be vertically centered in text box.

    In InDesign, there is an option in the text frame properties, "Vertical Justification", with a "Center" option.

    Or, the "baseline shift" option could be split into either specifying a number, as it is now, or specifying "center in text box".

    Automatically align to artboard if only 1 object is selected.

    Please upvote these existing requests:

    1. Align to artboard when only when item/group of items is selected — already completed. If you have problems with this sometimes not working, please upvote this bug repot.
    2. Align objects according to order of selection (first / last)
    3. Keyboard shortcuts for Align/Distribute commands and 'Align to' modes — partially completed

  4. Prevent "Align paragraph" from moving the text from its position

    It's by far the thing that annoys me the most about Illustrator;
    when you have your point text already positioned you need it to be aligned to a side and when you press the "align" button in the paragraph options the text moves and aligns to its previous center.
    It's a complete time-waster!

  6. Full Alignment Center Option (both horizontally and vertically)

    Instead of having two tools (Horizontal and Vertical Align Center), can we get a tool that does both in one called something like Fully Align Center. I've included an image of what the tool might look like.

  7. Align multiple icons to the center of multiple artboards

    I want to align multiple icons to the center of pre-existing artboards. I don't want to have to hand select each icon and align horizontally and vertically to every single artboard.

  8. The "Align" tool doesn't align

    So the align tools is organized like this:

    Align Objects:
    Vertical alignment tools Horizontal alignment tools

    Distribute Objects:
    Horizontal distrib. tools Vertical distrib. tools

    It confuses me each time. Why aren't the vertical tools both on the left, and both the horizontal tools on the right? Each time I use it I have to stop for a second and think about it before jumping horizontally to the tool I actually want. Please put the vertical alignment and distribution tools on the left, and the horizontal alignment and distribution tools on the right!

  9. Live align

    1. With this live align feature, you could have two objects maintain their alignment properties even if you change one of the objects. For example, if you have a rectangle and text inside it. You should be able to align the text to the rectangle. Later, when you change the text or change the rectangle, it should keep the alignment settings persistent. So, if you made the rectangle longer, the text would remain centered on the longer rectangle.

  10. Keyboard shortcuts for Align/Distribute commands and 'Align to' modes

    I miss having keyboard shortcuts for align/distribute from my CorelDraw days. I'm a pro designer in a fast turnaround environment, and keyboard shortcuts are essential to my workflow.

    As far as I know, the numeric keypad isn't being used in Illustrator. My proposal is: Pressing 0 toggles between absolute to the artboard or relative to last item selected. Pressing 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 will perform the align .2 = bottom, 4 = left, 5 = centre, 6 = right, 8 = top. Additionally 7 = distribute horizontal, 9 = distribute vertical.

    Also, please copy the CorelDraw keyboard shortcut…

    The most recent version finally has the Object > Distribute menu added.

    Now both Align and Distribute commands can be accessed via menu and have assigned keyboards shortcuts to them.


    The order of the commands though seemingly matches the one the panel has: horizontal first for Align and vertical first for Distribute.     Also, Align To and Distribute Spacing commands are still missing in top menus, so please keep voting here to make them added too.

  11. Align to x-height / Cap height, align to effects' bounds

    Hey! Illustrator rocks!! I am a professionnal user and I have to tell you that the software is really awesome!!!
    As a graphic designer (specialized in UI) I have to align stuff all the time:
    1- I would like to to be able to align the text to x-height inside a box rapidly. ( for instance the words inside a button )
    2-It would be nice to be able to align the stuff that has been duplicated with the Transformation... tool
    For now in both case I would have to decompose a duplicate of the transformed shape and manage to…

    Have an align to bleed option, anything going to print generally has a 3mm bleed and it would be handy to bet things to align to this instead of the edge of the artboard.

  15. Used to be able to resize text back to 100% in a group after stretching it horizontally or vertically.

    After stretching a group horizontally or vertically, you used to be able to resize the text back to 100% (aka, revert the weird text stretching while keeping all the objects grouped together). This option seems to be missing after the Ai update! Please give it back!

  16. Align/distribute to angle

    It would be so cool if you could align/distribute objects on an angle. Say for example I want to align objects to a 45 degree angle, instead of aligning to the highest/lowest point, or to the left or right.

    What about an "Align tool", click and hold an align-button to lock it in. Then click an object to select i. The object will align to the next object you click, and both object align to the next object you click, and so on...

  18. I'd like to see the transform values of text be accurate to the text rather than the text box

    I'd like to see the transform values of text be accurate to the text rather than the text box. Also so that when I am center aligning text horizontally it will align the actual text and not the text box.

    Latest versions of Illustrator have an exact solution for that.

    Open Align panel, and enable Align to Glyph Bounds option in the panel’s menu, for point or area text or both.

    The bounding box will remain the same, but the text will now align to and by its actual bounds, just like you want.

    Please comment back if it works for you.

  19. Align Stroke to one side of open path

    The feature which allows you to align stroke to inside or outside of a path for closed shapes is fantastic and gives a great deal of dynamic help. Currently, the only way to align a stroked path and another shape is inaccurately with only visual cues or expand the stroked path and lose editability.

    I don't know if it has been suggested but a feature which allowed you to preserve a non destructive workflow and interact with shapes more easily is very much within reach. Simply create an equivalent for the align stroke to inside or outside of path for…

    The team has encountered several issues with this feature. It requires them to change the basic algorithms and it is going to take them more time than anticipated.

    While it still works in Beta 28.8.0.7, the next Beta build will have Inside/Outside aligned strokes for open paths disabled. The Beta is scheduled to be live on 7th of August.

    Once this is ready to be enabled back, the team will update the status.

  20. Sync the order of Align and Distribute menu commands

    Hey, we now have Object > Distribute commands! No more actions wraps to bind these to hotkeys!

    However, why is the order is swapped? Align menu has Horizontal commands first, but Distribute has them at the bottom, under Vertical.

    One can object it’s just like the Align panel has them, and this is not the legacy behaviour you better keep, really. Please sync these.
