  1. Display Active Modifier-Key Command on Screen when holding Control, Shift, or Alt

When holding down any combination of Ctrl, Shift, or Alt, Illustrator should display on-screen text indicating which command is being invoked.

Moving or duplicating artboards requires the artboard toolbar to be selected, and then Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys to be held at once in order to drag a duplicate artboard parallel to the original. A simple on-screen text saying "Drag artboard, Drag parallel, Drag with Contents" or similar would help users intuitively understand which hot‑key action is being triggered, especially when working with multiple modifier keys where memorization can be challenging.

This can be used not just for artboard commands, but all…

  2. Have a panel that shows info and keyboard modifiers for the current tool

All Adobe applications are quite complex beasts, and what all the tools do and particularly what holding different modifiers or keys do can be quite arcane.

I imagine a panel you can have open on the side, and it will show information and the modifier options for the currently active tool.

For instance for the Star tool, it can say what Shift, Option and Command keys do, and that you can press Arrow Up and Arrow Down to increase the number of points as you drag.

Pro users can keep the panel closed, but it can really help new users…

  3. Add menu items and tools to custom panels

I find I frequently got to Menu/Object/Path/Offset Path or Menu/Object/Path/Outline Stroke along with Envelope distort and Expand.

It would be great to have these functions available as Clickable Tools that I could add to a Toolbar.

  4. Remove F1 key as help key

I use the F-keys frequently for Actions. However, F1 is defaulted to launching Illustrator's help screen and I'm regularly hitting the key by mistake. Could we please have a different way to launch the help screen and free up the F1 key for other, customisable, uses?

Thank you Ryan for your help.
Here is the way to customise the keys – please thank Ryan if you found it useful.

“You can go to edit/keyboard shortcuts, then choose menu commands. Find help, and clear the F1 key from it or pick it as another one. Save it as your own custom keyboard preset and you’re good to go.”

  5. Allow third-party developers to add dividers and custom sorting into Effect menus

Third-party developers can add custom items in menus.
Some create their own sub-menus, some add them in-between native commands... there are several practices they use and when they all get used together it feels somewhat chaotic.

But it feels like this is because plugin devs can’t fully control the commands in menus. It turns out, they can’t control the order and sorting, add dividers in Effects (but seemingly can in every other menu)...

Effect menu is the most weird menu in Ai, it looks different from others. Maybe that’s why?

There is an existing UV post about it:

  6. The same tool as Moho's magnet tool

Has anyone tried Moho by Smithmicro? Pretty fast vector animation tool. It has a drawing adjustment tool called Magnet. Here's how it's described in the manual: "The Magnet tool is similar to the Transform Points tool - it is used to move points around. However, instead of moving the selected points, it moves points based on the strength of the magnet. When you click with this tool, the region of strength is displayed. Any points within this region will move with your mouse, but the points closer to the center of the mouse click will move the most. (The…

  7. Ability to change starting point for closed path

Currently the only option is to cut and the path or redraw the path completely if the starting anchor is in the wrong place. For straight edges, such as a square or even a rectangle it's easy to work around, but when it's a curved edge it is difficult to replicate the same curve with the cut method. Could easily add this feature to stoke effect so that the starting point can be adjusted with a click on the anchor. Or have left and right arrows to move it to a different starting anchor (although that wouldn't work on…

  8. Text moves when adjusting an applied Text Effect...

When you apply Arc (or any other text effect) to text, then adjust the percentage of Arc, the text moves up. You have to reposition the text to where it was... Inconvenient when you're trying to warp the text around an existing object. Would be ideal if the text would stay in place when the effect is adjusted.

  9. Transform Shortcuts / Enter the transform panel with a keyboard shortcut

I want to be able to transform an object using the keyboard.

For example, in Sketch, I can manipulate an object by holding the command key (optionally with a 10x Shift-key modifier) and using the arrow keys to increase or decrease the height or width of an object. This tends to be easier than using the mouse or the Transform panel when making quick modifications. (Also, less painful for arthritic users!)

    Please consider it.

  10. Allow to Move All objects and adjust their Spacing from both ends in Objects on Path

Objects on Path construct has several on-canvas widgets, allowing us to quickly eyeball some parameters interactively.

One of these is the starting position of the array along the path.
If the length of the array is shorter then the path, we can grab the rhombus marker and move all the objects together along, keeping the gaps.

Another one is Space widget, which is located above the construct.
We can grab and make all the gaps shorter or longer at once.

For some reason both treat the array as directional.

We need an ability to be able to move the array…

  12. Highlight an anchor point used as a key object

Keying an anchor point is a lesser known option for aligning and distributing.

Clicking an object in a selection to key it is a thing that can be learnt by a chance (that is how I learned it myself), but using the latest selected point as a key is not a behaviour that is easily noticed.

The change of the mode is marked only via the small icon in the corner of Align panel, and nothing else on the artboard tells about it — compare this to the fat edge a key object uses.

Can you try to make a…

  13. Allow adjustments to the path curves of a Freeform gradient line, please.

Please allow adjustments to the path curves of a Freeform gradient line, like handles.

Right now all that is allowed, is to add more points along the path, and the ability to move those points around, and the path/curves move automatically based up the shape of the object.

Please add selection point handles, so we can edit and adjust the curves of the line.

  14. Shortcut button for stroke width.

Why has there never been a shortcut for stroke width? For illustrators, this is a command done so often, that's it's a bit of a burden not having this as an option.

And I mean for strokes that are selected, after being drawn out already, not for the brush itself.

  15. Don't stop duplicating when ALT is released! Make modifier keys stick after dragging starts as they do in Photoshop

When using Select and Direct Selection Tools, you can duplicate elements by holding ALT-key down.

But if you release the ALT-key before you release the Mouse Button, the duplicating ceases . This differs from how most of the other applications behaves. For example in Photoshop, duplicating continues even if you release the ALT before you release mouse button.

How this works in Illustrator leads often to situations where you think you have duplicated something, but you actually just moved it. And often I edit the element I thought I duplicated, and loose lot of work as it wasn't actually duplicated…

  16. Keep color values when applying freeform gradients

When applying a freeform gradient, Illustrator picks up colors from everywhere around the selected artwork, also the selected object itself. It would be extremely helpful if it could reliably keep the exact color values the object has, so you don't need to adjust it.

  17. Allow to see and edit colors in a selection, just like with Selection Colors in Figma

Figma displays a full list of colors used in a selected art in its right sidebar: https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042553434-View-and-adjust-colors-in-a-mixed-selection
It allows quickly evaluate the selection, edit colors right there, even swap — without the need of using bulky Recolor. Illustrator can't offer the same quick tool, neither in Color panel nor with the Properties.
Please make this possible in Ai, and make it better.

  18. Allow to set key object inside compound path

When you isolate a group, you can set any part of selection inside this group as key object just by clicking it with Selection tool. This is great — I can align objects inside a group, yay.

But why I can't do the same inside of an isolated compound path?
Why can't I align parts of my compound path using another part of same path as a key object, as I can do inside groups?
    Please, fix this.

    See attached animation.
I try to align squares to the left side of the square hole (I made a guide to show…

  19. Gradient Tool Needs Custom Angle Increment Option

There should be an option to define the angle increment that you want Shift to lock to when creating or modifying a gradient. Such as 15 degree increments (0º, 15º, 30º...). Come on Adobe!

  20. Our own custom new document templates

It would be great if we could have our own folder in which to store our customized NEW DOCUMENT TEMPLATES and have it in the row where RECENT, SAVED, MOBILE, WEB, PRINT... are stored.

There is also an error when saving a template in the templates folder:
