Rotation Handle Tolerance overrides scale and selection functionality while using Wacom.
Hiya. I have an issue with the Selection tool and the rotation handle functionality overriding both scale and shift+selection of other objects while using a Wacom.
Essentially, the rotation functionality tolerance seems to be 2-3 times higher than when using a mouse, which means that I have to zoom in far in order to either scale or select a nearby object.
This behaviour has been in every version of Illustrator since the original Illustrator CC - which behaved flawlessly.
I've also had it occur on 2 different computers with 2 different Wacom devices (Intuous 5 and Cintiq 13HD) and multiple versions of the Mac operating system (Yosemite through to Sierra).
You can see a video of the behaviour attached below.
- Version of Illustrator: CC2018 (but same occurs in 2017, 2015, 2014)
- Steps taken: Using the selection tool I attempt to shift+select a nearby object or scale the selected object.
- Expected Result: Shift-selecting the nearby object or scaling the selected object.
- Actual Result: The current object goes into rotate mode.
Thanks!
Chris
I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 23.0.6 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

Ditto to Anonymous’ remarks! I’ve tried repeatedly to echo this issue. Regarding the replaced settings on new release - HUGE ANNOYANCE. I have setup duplicate settings, shortcut files to re-setup upon installing new releases.

It's not fixed, I repeat It's not fixed or it's not resolved. Try this yourself and you'll see the issue immediately @Ashutosh Chaturvedi!!!!
I don't know what passes as Adobe's "bug fix completed" criteria, but one thing I'm frustrated with your CC product is your slow response in general and user un-friendliness around your product. Can I also mention this also: Please stop deleting my custom settings and change shortcut keys every time you release new major updates? It's such a pain. -

I am having this problem since the last update with just my regular mouse. I keep rotating an object even though I'm trying to scale or round the edges of a shape. Doesn't seem to happen all the time though, but when it does I need to zoom in really far or switch to the direct selection tool instead of the regular selection tool.

Once again, I echo others here and I continue my ongoing complaint re this ignored issue and completely agree with Mat, developers need to consult with and build from actual AI users experience. If the product reduces productivity and there is no one listening, acknowledging or addressing an issue, what is a subscription based service about other than collecting fees?

It seems this thread is being ignored now... How to get their attention in some other way? I agree, it's debilitating, demoralizing and profoundly unfair to paying users who expect updates to improve, not degrade their software.

This feels like one of the most debilitating issues in Illustrator right now. Considering the most fundamental action in Illustrator involves transforming a vector path, having to zoom in at 150% EVERY time just to make sure you are correctly rotating or scaling said path is not only accumulatively time consuming but incredibly demoralising. More-so, that it is something that never needed to be fixed in the first place. Does Adobe ever use actual 'professional' designers to test these new features before rolling out? (btw i have just updated to latest version 23.0.2)

Not fixed. Still having this problem here in Illustrator 23.0.1.

Update: what's new - illustrator asks for permission to control computer.
So maybe this is the hint. -

Like admin says - they fix it a little bit.
HOW TO:
1. Cleaning Wacom / adobe like in faq- doesn't work.
2. Clean install (Mojave) and latest Wacom driver 6.3.3-24 works. It's not completely fixed.
Works better - now you can resize obcjets, but tolerance and precision is still better on touchpad. So, in my opinion it's better but not fixed.

Dear Srishti,
Can someone please acknowledge whether or not Adobe is actively working on a fix for this bug and that the prior closure of the issue by Ashutosh Chaturvedi is open again. Would you please update this thread that the issue still persists.
Sincerely,
Tom -

I agree with all of the user comments that this issue persists and is frustrating beyond belief. however it is not unique to wacom users I have a surface book pro with the latest AI version and it does the same thing on my surface using the surface pen.

I had attempted to revive this thread by creating a new post in another support channel as suggested by Ashutosh Chaturvedi, who marked this issue completed in Oct 2018. I received an email this morning suggesting I look back at this originating thread. So, I return here. There are a number other users here echoing the bug and the fact that it is not yet fixed even in the most recent Illustrator update. What must be done to reopen this issue and to receive an acknowledgement of its existence from Adobe?
