1. Aligning to a certain object

   The Align tools in all Adobe programs is a wonderful feature. However, in Illustrator when you Align objects it changes the position of ALL of them. In other programs, it tends to be the last object you select takes the dominant position - aligning all others to it. In Illustrator it doesn't seem to matter the order you select, it just aligns it to the nearest center point (thus moving ALL the objects). The Lock feature doesn't help as you cannot select a locked object to align with/to.

   You can align to an object you choose to be the key one.. Click the object you want to use as a key the second time and Ai will use a bolder edge to highlight it.

2. Default overprint black text is missing in AI 2020 v24.2.3.

   Several generations earlier this feature was the default. Although type is filled black by default, it is NOW not set to overprint. I have to select all the black type and manually open Attributes panel and select "overprint fill." This is counterproductive.

3. The same tool as Moho's magnet tool

   Has anyone tried Moho by Smithmicro? Pretty fast vector animation tool. It has a drawing adjustment tool called Magnet. Here's how it's described in the manual: "The Magnet tool is similar to the Transform Points tool - it is used to move points around. However, instead of moving the selected points, it moves points based on the strength of the magnet. When you click with this tool, the region of strength is displayed. Any points within this region will move with your mouse, but the points closer to the center of the mouse click will move the most. (The radius of the magnet’s strength region can be adjusted in the tool options area.)"

   It is so needed. It's similar to Cinema 4D's brush tool.

   Not only is it super quickly to adjust the tools brush size by click dragging with alt pressed, but you can also restrict it to only selected points. It is by far the best vector tool I have used. I'm now exporting my artwork from illustrator to moho just so I can use this tool. Else it takes hours in illustrator selecting and moving each individual anchor point! (which by the way is super annoying as your point selection code has a tendency to not be sensitive enough or far too sensitive.)

4. Dragging from Bridge to Illustrator

   Change the standard file-placement behaviour from Bridge to Illustrator so that it places the contents of the AI file (rather than a PDF or a PNG).

   Say you've got a local library of picture elements, and you're browsing it in Bridge; you need to bring those elements into a currently open AI file. What do you do?

   The obvious thing is to use Bridge like a library navigator, and simply drag the ai file into your composition. However, you can't;What actually happens is you get a PNG file; if you shift-drag you get a PDF file; both are useless.

   And if you go online, some smart person will tell you to use symbols libraries, which isn't a huge help.

   It would be even better if you could view it directly in the library panel in Illustrator. That would mean syncing your local library directory (and CC files) with CC Libraries.

5. Make guides to be like in InDesign

   Certain features of the guides are very disturbing. The fact that the guides are movable in the counter intuitive directions (horizontal guides can also be moved sidewise and vice versa) create situations when "objects" are being moved out of the canvas, which prevents curtain actions. Basically, the fact that guides behave like objects is a problem. Guides always get mistakenly grouped with objects, which leads to deleting objects when attempting to delete guides. Guides are being copied with objects when objects are chosen in hide guides mode - bad news. The feature of being able to align guides with objects is great but it's not worth the rest of the head ache.

6. Add ability to rebind artboard names to their numbers

   In my work I add and delete artboards during work.
   When artboard is created, it's given a name, corresponding it's number.
   When custom artboard is deleted, numbers of next artboards are shifted (it's OK), but names stay the same.

   So when job is done, I can have something like this:
   1. Artboard 6
   2. Artboard 8
   3. Artboard 9
   4. Artboard 10
   5. Artboard 12
   and so forth

   Since the last number is almost as noticeable as first one, it's hard to pick up correct ones for export.
   I have a script written to fix this, which renames artboards to correspond their numbers, but it causes problem:
   When these artboards are exported, they automatically get their number at the end of file names, like this:
   [filename]-23.tif
   But if a script renames them, AI starts thinking about them as custom names, and files looks like this:
   [filename]-Artboard 22.tif

   And since I have other batch routines to work with specific filenames, I could have used a command that rebinds names to numbers without messing up export filename.

7. Easy setting of layer's opacity and 'Target Selected'

   Some users still find confusing setting opacity to whole layer.
   When they change opacity value in Transparency palette with no art selected, it does nothing or (if 'New Art has Basic Appearance' is unticked in Appearance palette options) applied to new objects.

   The way transparency is set for a layer in AI is not that obvious, compared to Photoshop's way, and require from user knowledge of working with appearance.

   I propose this:
   1. Make a shortcut for 'Target Current Layer' command, which is not anywhere now (or even 'Target Selected', which will target current layer, if nothing is selected)
   2. Add 'Target Layer' button to Transparency palette, when nothing is selected, in the empty area, where selected artwork thumb is usually displayed

   These will give users ability to quickly target layer and set it's opacity, both mouse and keyboard oriented.

8. Easier way to set color for Drop Shadows, Inner/Outer Glow, etc.

   Right now when you need to change Drop Shadow's color, you have to click effect in Appearance palette, then click color and only then choose color.

   But when you have a LOT of shadows — you are screwed (because Drop Shadows can't use global swatches: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-bugs/suggestions/34789156-drop-shadow-can-t-use-global-color-swatches).

   You have to click EACH shadow and change it.
   Not effective.

   Why not to make shadow's color appear in Appearance the same way as fill does?

   It will also allow to change color of multiple shadows for one object at once (yeah, I have to layer shadows, because AI doesn't allow to tweak shadow distribution, neither with profiles, as PS does, not with numbers).

   To distinguish fill from color you can draw it inside circle, for example, and not square, or change position, or something else.

   Right now when you need to change Drop Shadow's color, you have to click effect in Appearance palette, then click color and only then choose color.

9. Match display sizes across CC apps already. Please.

   1. Open AI
   2. Create new A4 document
   3. Display @ 100%
   4. Open ID
   5. Create new A4 document
   6. Display @ 100%
   7. View AI and ID windows side by side
   8. Compare sizes.

   FFS! Please make apps sync real 100% size rendering of documents already. It‘s fundamental for graphic professionals to be able to view documents in real size. Why is this still not fixed.

   100% is 100% irrespective of display resolution. Come on, it‘s 2017. Nobody is working on 72 dpi anymore. We all have 5K retina displays.

   Please try to keep up, Adobe.

   Ai now displays A4 as a proper 210×297mm (if Display Print Size at 100% Zoom option is set in Preferences) — you can check it with a ruler next to a screen.

   This messes up 100% for Web-based documents, unfortunately, and this is yet have to be resolved.

   InDesign, however, displays it a bit smaller… (this should be asked from InDesign developers).
   Photoshop does it almost perfect when you choose View > Actual Size.

10. Blend tool with Freeform Gradients does not working properly

    Blend tool not working with shapes that contain gradients. (preview box is greyed out as well)
    It won't work from the start with shapes that already contain gradients and only produces black shapes and an error message when the color is applied after making the blend.

12. Combine color and stroke in one palette

    Older versions of ai had color and stroke in one palette... since in almost 100% of the cases when you draw an object you will need to modify both. This could be be an option under both current palettes.

13. Sort menus alphabetically when Cmd+Opt+Shift / Ctrl+Alt+Shift, like in InDesign

    Illustrator has a lot of things put in menus.
    The sorting order in some (like View or Object) can be unobvious for new users (and surely some older ones as well).

    InDesign allows to sort menus temporarily by holding Cmd+Opt+Shift / Ctrl+Alt+Shift while clicking one — make Ai do the same!

    An interesting thing is — helpx.adobe.com does not know about it at all. Another sacred technique :/ Terry White figured it out somewhere, but where did he get it from? ...accidentally?

14. Can't select and edit two effects from two separate fills in single appearance

    I can't select two effects, applied to different fills in one appearance — AI restricts to select both of them. Therefore, if I have same effect applied to all of my object's fills, I have to edit EACH of them one by one, instead of just Ctrl+click all of them and edit at once.
    It means that if I want to change Drop shadow's parameters, scattered across different appearances, no graphic style won't help me. And I already mentioned in separate enquiry that Drop shadow and other color-based effects ignore global swatches.
    This is nuts. I waste so much time.

    I was looking to contact Adobe team, i am an artist and calligrapher and graphic designer for more than 30 years.

    I have ideas to improve the tools in Adobe Illustrator or to create an independent application to write arabic calligraphy to make a wonderfull peices of art using arabic calligraphic letters.

    Also i have a library for more than 100 vector of this type of art which done by Adobe Illustrator, i held an exhibition in Amman-Jordan.

    I hope to show this art (calligraphics) through Adobe, this type of art collabroation of hand drawn and brushes in Adobe Illustrator.

    I hope we can show up this art through the city of creativity (Adobe).

16. How come the measure tool does not snap to points?

    Without snapping, measuring between points is not very accurate.
    It would be nice to be able to measure actual lengths of curves or sections of paths. It would make it easier to create diagrams with dimensions.

    Starting v29.6, the measure tool snaps to other objects thereby giving you the ability to measure different dimensions quickly and accurately. Please upgrade your application to the latest build and let us know what do you think.

17. Curvature tool continuation tolerance

    I work quite zoomed in, and when drawing close to an existing path with the curvature tool, it often picks up the end of the existing path and continues drawing from it. I'd love to be able to select the tolerance for this behaviour, so I can be more precise.

    Currently I have to draw my intended path somewhere else, and move it to its intended location, or switch to the pen tool, which it more accurate.

18. Custom background color for tool windows

    Currently working with dual monitors, one monitor has most of my tool windows.
    If I am using one window of tools most of the time, it would be nice to set the base color to orange so I can spot it easier. Or even group windows that are similar to say green, and rarely used windows would remain grey.

20. Extend path tool

    I make carpets, and I alway need min. 10 cm extra design for fitting or if the carpet shrinkts in production. For Illustrator artwork, I need to extend all paths, smoothly or naturally outside the border of the design, without changing the existing design.
