1. Files don’t save! Saving starts and never finishes and can’t be cancelled

   The saving process starts as soon as I ask for it, but then it never finishes.
   This issue is happening since I download the latest version (29.7.1)

   The problem is not even letting me to close the program in the computer because "Illustrator is currently saving the document and will close it once the save process is complete" signal is appearing so I need to finish the task from the task administrator in the computer

2. Acrobat layers duplicate excessively in AI file’s compatible PDF

   Illustrator 2025 (29.8.2)

   When “Save in Background” is enabled, the Acrobat layers in the compatible PDF within AI files duplicate according to the number of artboards. For example, when there are 10 artboards and 2 layers, there should be 2 Acrobat layers, but instead 20 layers are generated.

   The issue mentioned in this thread has been fixed in Illustrator v30.1 and v29.8.4

3. Thumbnails glitching when saved

   Randomly, when files and thumbnails are saved out of Illustrator, the resulting thumbnails are glitched in a variety of ways. This glitch is present in the preview in the Finder window, but upon opening the file again, the glitch is not present. This is not from appearances or overprint being applied to artwork elements, as we are familiar with the issues those settings present in a print production environment, and this is a separate issue.

   • Running on a MacBook Pro, 2021, running Sequoia 15.0.
   • Using Illustrator 30.0.
   • The issue occurs when Illustrator saves a file or thumbnail, randomly, without any indicators that it's going to happen.
   • The preview of the file and the thumbnails of the file should match exactly how the file appears in Illustrator, but the saved -preview and thumbnails appear glitched in some way.

   A) In the orange file example, the file is saved exactly as shown in screenshot A1. The thumbnail and preview of the file were saved with elements duplicated and scaled differently from the actual file and how the actual file appears when reopened—screenshot A2 and A3. I do not have the original file with the issue to attach.

   B) In the Super Collagen file, the file was saved exactly as shown in screenshot B1. The thumbnail and preview of the file were saved with multiple elements missing and without the background elements—screenshot B2.

   C) In the Smooth Current Serum file, the file was saved exactly as shown in screenshot C1. The thumbnail and preview of the file were saved with a previous version of the "SMOOTH" text overlapping the actual text in the artwork. This old version had 3 "O's" in the text, but was DELETED/removed from the file. Yet it saved over top of the corrected version in the thumbnail and preview, even though this "SMOOOTH" text had been deleted PRIOR to saving the file.

   These issues cause huge problems in a production environment when the thumbnails are used for proofing and the software saving out the thumbnails cannot be trusted to accurately represent the artwork. I have screenshots and files for about 15 additional documented instances of this thumbnail/preview glitch occurring.

   Everyone - we want some more information about this issue.

   Is any export (PNG) done from Illustrator for any such (glitched preview) files showing the same thumbnail issue or not?

   Or, is the issue happening only with the thumbnail of the file as seen in the Mac / Win folder preview or while placing into another application?

4. Image Map URL Links Disappear in PDF Export

   Issue occurs in Illustrator 2025 (29.6) and later versions

   Description:
   URL links configured through the Attributes panel’s Image Map feature are not preserved in exported PDFs, despite enabling the “Preserve Hyperlinks” option in PDF export settings.

   Steps to Reproduce:
   1. Create a new document
   2. Create an object (e.g., rectangle, text, etc.)
   3. Select the object and enter a URL in the Attributes panel → Image Map
   4. Create a new layer above the current layer
   5. Export as PDF with “Preserve Hyperlinks” enabled in export settings
   6. Open the exported PDF in Adobe Acrobat

   Expected Result:
   URL links should be clickable and functional in the exported PDF.

   Actual Result:
   URL links are missing/non-functional in the exported PDF.

   Root Cause:
   This bug occurs specifically when there is an additional layer positioned above the layer containing the object with the image map URL. Objects on layers without overlying layers export hyperlinks correctly.
   The issue occurs even when “Create Acrobat Layers” is unchecked.

   Workaround:
   Merge all layers into one before exporting to PDF.

   Having a layer above the layer with hyperlinks now works as expected in Beta 30.0.0.114

5. Compatibility Issue in Illustrator v30.2 - PostScript Error <a1a1>

   Critical Update: This issue is not limited to specific files. Every single file saved or exported from version 30.2 encounters the same <a1a1> error, even when the document contains only a simple primitive shape (e.g., a single rectangle). This indicates a systemic failure in the PostScript generation engine of the v30.2 build on my system.

   Description
   Since updating to Adobe Illustrator v30.2, I have encountered a critical compatibility issue. Even when saving files for lower versions (Legacy formats), recipients are unable to open them. The files trigger a specific PostScript error regardless of how simple the vector data is. This issue does not occur in version 30.0, suggesting a bug introduced in the v30.2 update.

   Error Message
   Error: "The illustration cannot be opened. The illustration contains an illegal operand."

   Operator: <a1a1>

   Steps Taken (Troubleshooting attempted):
   To resolve this, I have tried the following methods, but none of them worked in v30.2:

   Saving as Legacy AI: Saved as CC Legacy and CS6 versions with "Create PDF Compatible File" unchecked.

   Exporting as EPS: Saved in various EPS versions (including Illustrator 10 EPS).

   Code Cleaning via SVG: Saved the file as SVG and re-imported it to save as AI again.

   Fresh Document: Created a completely new document and copied/pasted only the vector paths.

   Flattening: Expanded all appearances, outlined all fonts, and simplified paths to ensure only basic vectors remained.

   Current Status
   The issue persists only when the file is saved using v30.2.

   Rolling back to v30.0 resolves the issue completely. Files saved in v30.0 can be opened by others without any errors.

   Critical Update: This issue is not limited to specific files.    再現手順
   1.800ppiのモノクロ2開帳の画像をドキュメントに原寸で配置する。
   2.ファイル→コピーを保存を実行、PDF形式を選択し次のダイアログでプリセット「PDF/X-4:2008（日本）」を選択して保存する。
   3.PDFを開いて配置した画像を調べると300ppiにダウンサンプルされている。

   期待する結果
   800ppiのままダウンサンプルされずに保存される。

   実際の結果
   配置したビットマップ画像は300ppiにダウンサンプルされる。

   このプリセットでは実行解像度が1800ppiを超えた際に1200ppiにダウンサンプルされるように設定されている。配置状態で800ppiの画像はダウンサンプルの条件に当てはまらない為ダウンサンプルされてはいけない。
   また、300ppiという数値はモノクロビットマップ画像を取り扱うには致命的に低い解像度と言える。

   回避方法
   ビルトインのPDF/X-4プリセットは利用せず、同等のプリセットを自身で作成して利用する。その他、プリプレス関連メーカーが配布するPDF/X-4プリセットを利用しても良い。

   The preset is set to downsample to 1200ppi when the resolution exceeds 1800ppi. Images with a resolution of 800ppi in the placed state should not be downsampled because they do not meet the conditions for downsampling.
   In addition, 300ppi is a fatally low resolution for handling monochrome bitmap images.

   Workaround
   Do not use the built-in PDF/X-4 preset, but create an equivalent preset yourself. You can also use PDF/X-4 presets distributed by prepress-related manufacturers.

8. aiファイルをInDesignに配置した際に画像が透明になる

   Illustrator 30.2.1で保存したaiファイルをInDesign2026に配置すると、ai内にリンクされた画像ファイルが透明になります。30.1に戻したところ、直りました。
   ただし、30.1でも、InDesign2026配置時に、ai内にリンクされた画像ファイルの位置がずれることがあります。こちらは毎回ではありません。ずれる場合の法則は分かりませんが、モノクロ2階調画像のずれる率が高いようです。

9. Illustrator 29.8.2 saved .ai-file containing outdated pdf-version

   We have a user that several times has encountered a serious bug with saving documents. Currently on version 29.8.2 (the latest available for us in the CC desktop app as of today). Windows 11.

   Attached is an AI file showing the bug. Try opening it in e.g. Photoshop and Illustrator. You get very different versions.

   It is a "PDF compatible file" saved from Illustrator, so it contains a PDF version for other apps to use, but this embedded PDF version shows an older version of the illustrator file (so opening it in Illustrator looks fine, but when using it in e.g. InDesign, you get an old version)!

   Steps (as far as I can gather):

   1. An Illustrator file has been opened in Illustrator 29.8.2.
   2. The illustrator file has been saved (File > Save) - likely a couple of times - then closed.

   Result: AI file with outdated version in the embedded PDF. All other apps show the wrong version.

   To fix it, all we have to do is re-save the file, and then it works. So it's not consistent, and hard to reproduce.

   At least during this last occurence, the user was working from home via VPN, so the network connection was a bit slower than usual if that matters. The Illustrator preferences for saving should be the default settings (attached screenshot). I believe the setting for "slow networks" does so that Illustrator saves the file locally before transferring it, so network speed shouldn't affect the result?

   Since it has happened at least a few times, we now have to manually check every time we save a file if it is actually properly saved (by checking it in InDesign/FrameMaker/etc. to verify the latest changes are included). Not good.

10. "Open" window loads blank and duplicates

    Operating System:

    When I try to open files using File > Open… or the shortcut Cmd + O, the “Open” dialog window does not appear immediately. Sometimes it takes several seconds, and other times it takes minutes before it shows up.

    Because of the delay, if I press Cmd+O again or click File > Open repeatedly, Illustrator eventually opens multiple overlapping blank windows. These windows appear with a dark/empty content area and no file information loaded.
    They also become unresponsive for a while.

    1. Open Adobe Illustrator 30.0.
    2. Go to File > Open…, or press Cmd + O.

    The team has identified an issue for a small subset of users who are on the Windows operating system and also have their network traffic routed through a proxy.

    A temporary solution to this issue is the following:

    1. Open up PowerShell
    2. Copy and paste the following commands:

    cd "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2026"$env:WEBVIEW2_ADDITIONAL_BROWSER_ARGUMENTS = "--use-system-proxy-resolver"& '.\Illustrator.exe'

11. PDF export without color conversion converts RGB images to CMYK

    This is a bug that occurs in Illustrator 2025 (29.2.1) and later.

    When an RGB image is placed as a linked file in a CMYK document, it gets converted to CMYK upon PDF export, even if "No Color Conversion" is selected. In Illustrator 2025 (29.2.0) and earlier, the image remained in RGB.

    This bug affects only PNG and JPG files. Other formats, such as PSD, remain in RGB.

    Steps to Reproduce

    1. Create a new CMYK document.
    2. Place an RGB image (PNG or JPG) as a linked file (do not embed).
    3. Export the document as a PDF with "No Color Conversion" selected.

    How to Verify That RGB Images Are Converted to CMYK in PDF

    1. Open the exported PDF in Acrobat.
    2. Go to Print Production > Output Preview.
    3. Set Preview to "Object Inspector."
    4. Click on an image in the PDF.
    5. The object information will be displayed, showing the actual color mode.

    You will see that the RGB image has been converted to CMYK, even though it should have remained in RGB.

    Issues

    Users who lack in-depth knowledge of color profiles rely on workflows where RGB images in PDFs are properly converted to CMYK at the output stage. However, with this bug, RGB images are automatically converted to CMYK during PDF export, meaning that any inappropriate color profile settings at the time of linking will carry over, making quality control at the output stage impossible.

    Additionally, this issue affects not only exported PDFs but also the embedded compatibility PDFs in AI files. When an AI file is placed as a linked document in InDesign, InDesign reads only the compatibility PDF, making it impossible to verify whether the AI file contains linked RGB images.

    Expected Behavior

    When exporting a PDF with "No Color Conversion" selected, linked RGB images should remain in RGB.

    このバグが発生するのは、PNGおよびJPG形式の画像のみであり、PSDなど他の形式の画像はRGBのままとなります。

    再現手順

    1. CMYKの新規ドキュメントを作成
    2. RGB画像（PNGまたはJPG）をリンク配置（埋め込まない）
    3. カラー変換なしでPDFに書き出す

    RGB画像がPDF内でCMYKに変換されていることの確認手順

    1. PDFをAcrobatで開く
    2. 印刷工程 > 出力プレビュー を開く
    3. プレビュー を「オブジェクトインスペクター」に設定
    4. PDF内の画像をクリック
    5. クリックした箇所のオブジェクト情報が表示される

    この情報にカラーモードが表示され、RGBのまま書き出したはずの画像がCMYKになっていることが確認できます。

    問題点

    カラープロファイルの知識が不足しているユーザーは適切なCMYK変換ができないため、PDF内のRGB画像を出力側で適切にCMYKへ変換するフローが存在します。しかし、このバグによりPDF書き出し時にCMYKに変換されると、リンク配置時の不適切なカラープロファイル選択がそのまま反映されてしまい、出力側での品質管理が困難になります。

    また、この問題は書き出したPDFだけでなく、aiファイルの互換PDFにも影響を及ぼします。IllustratorのaiファイルをInDesignドキュメントにリンク配置する場合、InDesignは互換PDFを読み込むため、aiファイル内にRGB画像がリンク配置されているかどうかをInDesign上で確認することができなくなります。

    期待する結果

    PDF書き出し時に「カラー変換なし」を選択した場合、リンク配置されたRGB画像はRGBのまま維持されるべきです。

12. "Could not complete Package" after Tahoe upgrade

    After upgrading to macOS Tahoe 26.0, Illustrator (latest version) is unable to Package a file that has links located on a network drive.

13. Cannot Save as New File in v30

    Using the latest version of Adobe Illustrator (2026 version?)

    Trying to "save as new" but the save window does not load completely and then button shapes inside disappear and remains in this state. The only thing you can do is close the box.

    The team has identified an issue for a small subset of users who are on the Windows operating system and also have their network traffic routed through a proxy.

    A temporary solution to this issue is the following:

    1. Open up PowerShell
    2. Copy and paste the following commands:

    cd "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2026"$env:WEBVIEW2_ADDITIONAL_BROWSER_ARGUMENTS = "--use-system-proxy-resolver"& '.\Illustrator.exe'

14. Saving in older illustrator format scales 10 times down

    When saving a file in an older illustrator format, now the file appears 10 times smaller. As a signmaker working with sign software that doesn't accept newer ai or eps files this is VERY MUCH unwanted. I can scale it back to 100% in my sign making software but only manual. Not by alttering the comma in the scaling. This isn't accuracy I often need. Please undo this downscaling. Me, and a lot of colleagues, work for decades this way.

    Seit dem Update von Adobe Illustrator auf Version 30.2.1 tritt ein Problem im Umgang mit platzierten Verknüpfungen auf, das zuvor nicht vorhanden war.

    Beschreibung des Problems:

    Wenn in einer Illustrator-Datei ein Bild platziert und als Verknüpfung (nicht eingebettet) eingefügt wird und diese Illustrator-Datei anschließend wiederum in eine zweite Illustrator-Datei platziert oder eingebettet wird, erscheint das verknüpfte Bild aus der ersten Datei in der zweiten Datei nicht mehr.

    Das Bildfeld bleibt leer, obwohl die Verknüpfung korrekt vorhanden ist.

    Erwartetes Verhalten (wie in früheren Versionen):
    In vorherigen Illustrator-Versionen wurden verknüpfte Bilder innerhalb einer platzierten .ai-Datei korrekt angezeigt, auch wenn diese Datei in einer weiteren Illustrator-Datei verwendet wurde.

    Aktuelles Verhalten:
    Verknüpfte Bilder aus der ursprünglichen Datei werden in der zweiten Datei nicht dargestellt.

    Workaround:
    Aktuell funktioniert die Darstellung nur, wenn alle Bilder in der ersten Illustrator-Datei vollständig eingebettet werden. Dies ist jedoch workflow-technisch problematisch, da Verknüpfungen bewusst zur Dateigrößen- und Assetverwaltung genutzt werden.

    Zusammenfassung:
    Seit Version 30.2.1 scheint die Weitergabe bzw. Auflösung von Bildverknüpfungen innerhalb platzierter Illustrator-Dateien nicht mehr korrekt zu funktionieren.

    Ich bitte um Prüfung, ob es sich hierbei um einen bekannten Bug handelt. Systeminformationen: Der Fehler tritt auf einem iMac Pro (3,2 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon W, 32 GB RAM) unter macOS 15.7.4 (24G57) auf.

17. Phantom objects in Finder Preview and when imported into Photoshop

    I'm on MacOS. When previewing an .ai file in Finder, there will often times be phantom objects visible in Finder Preview. These objects are always duplicates of whatever is actually visible on the artboard-- usually it's a phantom object in the position the object was in the last time I saved the file. When I open the .ai file in Illustrator, those objects do not exist. The objects are not hidden; they are not on some other layer. This is particularly problematic because those phantom objects are still there if I open the .ai file in Photoshop. If I add the .ai file as a Smart Object layer in my Photoshop file, the phantom objects are there. If I attempt to edit that Smart Object, Illustrator opens up and shows the phantom objects are not there. Saving and closing DOES NOT FIX IT. Sometimes toggling the visibility of the Illustrator layer the objects are on and then saving fixes it. Sometimes toggling to outline mode fixes it. Sometimes moving the .ai from one folder to another, brings the phantom objects back. Why is this happening? How do I make it stop?

18. Illustrator v30.0 thinks file isn't saved, right after saving it

    On some (but not all) files, Illustrator v30.0 will immediately add an asterisk to the name of the file in the tab, even though I have not made any changes to the file. If I save the file and then try to close the file, I am prompted to save the file again, despite having just saved it.

    I just tested the exact same file in v30.0, v29.8.2 and v28.7.2, using MacOS 15.5 on a Studio M2 Max:

    -I am saving the file to the desktop
    -I have all settings related to "save in background" under "File Handling" turned OFF

    In v30.0 and 29.8.2 the asterisk appears immediately after saving the file. I don't even need to touch the keyboard or mouse.
    In v28.7.2 it does not, and works normally.

    Any thoughts?

19. Asset export does not include appearance outside bounding box area of text objects (preview bounds are ignored)

    In Illustrator 2025 (using version 29.3.1), when exporting assets, appearance elements outside the bounding box area are cut off.
    In 2024 (28.7.5) and 2023 (27.9.6), all elements are exported without cutting.

    Reproduction Procedure
    1. create a text object
    2. add a bold stroke color to the text
    3. add as an asset export item
    4. export the asset

    Expected result
    Designs with stroke color should be exported as in previous versions without problems.

    Appendix.
    If a fill is added instead of a line and “path offset” is applied instead, this problem can be avoided because the bounding box is extended.

20. DXF export produces silently incorrect geometry for fabrication workflows

    I initially submitted this as a feature request.
    After further discussion and testing, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is better classified as a bug: the export completes successfully, but silently produces geometrically incorrect data for precision workflows.

    Illustrator offers DXF export as a supported output format. However, when exporting geometry that is visually exact (e.g. circles, constant-radius constructions, rounded slots), the resulting DXF contains only Bézier-approximated splines or segmented polylines, without warning.

    This results in silent degradation of geometric accuracy:
    • Visually exact geometry in Illustrator
    • Numerically incorrect geometry in DXF
    • Errors only become apparent downstream during CNC fabrication
    From a user perspective, this means the DXF export cannot be relied upon for manufacturing, despite being offered as an export option.

    This creates a fundamental problem:
    • Either DXF export should preserve exact geometry where it exists (LINE / ARC / CIRCLE),
    • Or the export should clearly warn that geometry is being approximated and is not manufacturing-safe.

    At the moment, neither happens. The export succeeds, but produces data that is unsuitable for precision workflows without the user being aware of it.

    This is not a request to turn Illustrator into a CAD application, but a request for correctness, transparency, or removal of an export option that currently implies reliability it does not deliver.

    I initially submitted this as a feature request.
