Allow to select several gradient sliders
Sometimes I need to move several sliders in gradients at once.
I have to select them one by one and move each at distance I need.
I'd like to select several sliders and move them simultaneously.
Of course, they should be very clearly marked as selected, or this would confuse, if you forget to unselect them and then try to edit color for one.25 votes -
Create a ISE file system for Gradient management (ASE for AI only)
create the possibility to export gradients as lib !
I understand why ASE does not work with gradients (while it could be the case if ASE would accept more than one value per swatch but whatever..)
I'd be nice to create ISE fileformat for example (ASE for AI only) to be able to have an actual gradient lib file.
bluegradients.ISE
Redgradients.ISE
EtcThe state of gradient management feels very much not polished from the adobe side of things, so please, work on that ...
and have a look at Astute gradient forge

Allow adjustments to the path curves of a Freeform gradient line, please.
Please allow adjustments to the path curves of a Freeform gradient line, like handles.
Right now all that is allowed, is to add more points along the path, and the ability to move those points around, and the path/curves move automatically based up the shape of the object.
Please add selection point handles, so we can edit and adjust the curves of the line.

Gradient across open stroke should 'run around' round caps
I think the gradient across a stroke with a round cap should "run around" the cap at the end of the open stroke (see a screenshot).

On the free form gradient tool can you allow each circle to be smaller for more detailed illustrations?
This free form gradient tool is my favorite update of all time. But I'd like to be able to have more detail and control. The circles are too big to allow for this and it really limits the tool.

Gradients don't snap to grid or to Smart Guides
I can't believe I haven't posted it, but the search says so.
Since CS4, I guess, when the cool and fancy gradient annotator showed up, the Gradient tool had lost it's ability to snap to grid. WHY? Do you think nobody needs to snap gradients? I need, at least.
It should also snap to Smart guides!Everything must snap to grid, when Snap to grid is enabled.
37 votesBeta Build 29.6.142 now partially supports Gradient Tool snapping with Smart Guides enabled, but for the starting point only at the moment. Snapping to grid is not supported as well, and gradient stops won’t snap at all. There is no dedicated option for the tool to control the behavior as well.
If you noticing anything else while testing this (please do!) — kindly make a comment.

Make 3D material texture scale apply consistently across an entire group/compound path (replicating gradient behavior)
There is currently no way to have a design consisting of multiple disconnected shapes that "share" one single material texture scale in the 3D feature. The scale of the texture is determined by the size of each shape; small shapes have small, squished textures and large shapes have large, stretched textures. I understand that each shape is determining what size is "100%" scale, but the behavior should be like it is elsewhere in Illustrator. When you apply a gradient to multiple shapes, each shape has the entire gradient because each shape's dimensions determine what the 100% scale is. However, if…

Freeform gradient points copying with Alt+drag
Ai does not apply the Alt+drag paradigm to color stops of freeform gradients. No duplication happens!
We can workaround this, clicking the stop first, and then clicking in a free spot... But this is not OK, because this approach is not used anywhere else in Ai.
You can have it kept, but add Alt+drag to copy stops.12 votes -
Automatically make gradients by just selecting two or more colors
Create a default gradient of two or more colors just by selecting them on the artwork or on the swatches panel without having to copy and paste the color codes separately.
157 votesHello all,
This functionality is now available in all the public builds starting V29.0.
To use this functionality, simply select colors from your swatches panel and click on 'create gradient' in the swatch panel options.
Please try out this feature and let us know what you think!

Allow to set a color for a gradient stop using Color Picker
Picking colors or changing colors in Illustrator has always been a pain compared to Photoshop and I'm not sure why. When I want to choose a color for a gradient or in the color panel in general, why can I not open the color picker and move the slider around on the big square to actively change colors and see the colors change in real time? This frustration often makes me want to switch from using Adobe products.

Gradient Mesh Tool should have the ability to add a circular mesh within a circle.
Gradient Mesh tool should have the ability to add circular mesh lines within a circle. Currently if you have a circle, a new mesh line will only span from one edge of the circumference to another however it would be good to add a concentric circle in the circular mesh

Allow transitions between freeform gradients control points to be linear

16 bit mode for Illustrator
When creating Illustrations with gradients, we can only use 8bits. When imported in Photoshop or After Effects 16bits projects, the gradients stick to this poor 8bits - resulting in banding.
Especially when working on normal/displacement maps for 3d materials, 8bits is not enough.
How great would it be if Illustrator had a possibility to switch to 16 or 32 bit mode!

Freeform gradient live update option
While live update is a nice thing to have (we still wait until you make all draggable art live updated), it's still not very fast.
Please make an option to turn off live update for freeform gradients, so a fill would update only when you release fill points.3 votes -
Make a way to call the Color Picker dialog for change color of a gradient stop
The gradient tool is not very intuitive, and the color selection interface has a limited range, making it difficult to accurately pick the desired colors. Usually, I can only use color codes to specify them. I think there is a lot of room for improvements.

Allow to set opacity values separately from color values in gradients, like in Photoshop
Would be nice if the Gradient Tool would function more like the one in photoshop.
Mainly the ability to set different opacity values separately from the colour values. Not once I found myself changing my gradient shades in order to get the required transparency effect.
In addition, it would be nice to have the variant gradient selection photoshop offers, such as Radial, Reflective, and Diamond.

Can we have nicer gradient when we use spot color to gradient?
Look like the tone was mixed with desaturated tone at the middle part when we use pantone / spot colour we created.
When we output to print, the desaturated tone is still visible.
Attached the screenshot for your reference. Thank you!4 votes -
Revisit the interactions of gradients, brushes, and patterns.
You can't make pattern swatches with gradients in them. This limitation probably made a lot of sense back in 1996 when gradients were new and complicated. Does it still make sense in 2024, with thirty years of CPU manufacturers fighting to keep Moore's Law valid?
You can't apply a gradient stroke to an art/pattern/scatter brush. Again, this limitation probably made sense back in 2012 when gradient strokes were added to Illustrator. Does it still make sense in 2024?
I'm pretty tired of working around both of these limitations.

Clean gradient distribution between spot and CMYK colors
Allow clean gradients between spot and CMYK colours. For the moment, it looks greyish between the 2 selected colours.
