Please remove the "The document [name] is currently getting saved. It will be closed after the save is complete." dialog
Or at least make that optional. It's a common practice to Command-S, Command-W, and now it's an extra step to hit "ok". If you don't click okay (or press enter), it just hangs there, not doing anything until you get rid of the dialog.
Either make the dialog optional, or handle it like InDesign, where the dialog disappears when the file is saved and then the window closes.
SO annoying with 2020 AI
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the feedback. Want to give an update that we have removed the dialog, and the new experience is available in our latest release build – 24.1.1 for Win and 24.1 for Mac which is available worldwide now, in case you want to give it a try. Now, there will be no blocking message, we will show a “soft message” which will auto-dismiss .
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

This is still not working correctly in 24.3
The 'soft' message appears, but where it says the document "will close once the save process is complete", it doesn't. -

HI THIS HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. IT NEEDS TO BE DISABLED FOR BOTH "SAVE" AND "SAVE AS" FUNCTIONS.

I can confirm this is not fixed on the last build. When I'm working I'm using the action script to save. I was working like that with years and now I have a problem with Illustrator 2020. The script which I'm using is opening Save as dialog, then I save to .ai and the script is opening again save as dialog to save as .PDF. But now it's not working because that message "The document [name] is currently getting saved. It will be closed after the save is complete." So, please fix it.

This bug has not been fixed.
There is also a problem with saving. It saves but asked to save again when you want to close the document. See link below for a screen recording.

Why was this removed on a Close but not on a Save As?

We just updated to 24.1.1 to remove this dialog and it is still there. Is it a preference now or?

I do not currently have the issues mentioned below. I can see the message pop up with a low opacity box and the document closes properly, however I'm seeing a box that's been plaguing the program for some time now that pops up when I open documents by double clicking my illustrator files outside of illustrator. The box is a ghost of the New Document window. It closes when I click the X but is a small nuisance.\
John: I'm running 10.15.3 on Mac and have Illustrator 24.1 and the save message box has been resolved. Are you seeing what I attached?

Yeah – just realized that the one I just posted is yet another lame dialog – not the original "close" one this thread was all about, sorry.
This one is the "save" one -- it does just the same – locks Illustrator down indefinitely until you click it.

have you updated to 24.1.1 or 24.1 for Mac?

Guys --- it's NOT fixed in the new version??!?
It still locks everything down.

See GFS_Ron's comment below. You can uncheck the "Save in Background" setting in Preferences > File Handling and Clipboard which will fix the issue.

+1 For this.
Because the dialogue box actually causes the command to fail - it DOESN'T close it once the save process is complete. It closes it once I close the dialogue box AND the save process is complete.I GET IT for a massive illustration, but if I've just made a flipping barcode label, hit Command S and then Command W I get this brain dead dialogue pop up which kills my process.
PLEASE remove it. Or give us the option to.

+1 in the annoying column. It's like a testy Illustrator gnome telling me, "You can WAIT 1/3 second while I save. THEN you can close the document." My annoyed addition of Command/Shift+Tab+Enter then Command+Tab is sadly already a reflex. grr.

Could use 'Don't show again'

I'm always annoyed with this prompt. Would be great to have an option to disable this prompt or at least that it would automatically go away once the document has finished saving.
Just saw it's a dublicate of issue with title: "Background save dialog prevents closing of document"

Same here. All I want, when I see that dialog box, is to see it burns. FRUSTRATING AF.

Please, please remove this irritating feature - it's slowing down my workflow, which requires saving and closing 100s of files in sequence.

Before Illustrator would quit when using the shortcut for closing a file. Now the it quits when clicking "okay" button in the "The document (whatever) is currently getting saved. etc. etc." window. Please, please fix this constantly quitting issue. Most inconvenient on busy work days.
