1. Calligraphic brush adds small circles (blobbing) at the end of drawn lines

2. White-to-black gradients in opacity masks don’t go fully transparent

   For opacity masks, 100% White should represent a 100% absence of masking and 100% Black should represent 100% masking (like in Photoshop).

   The current system in Illustrator seems very unintuitive and flawed – a basic white to black gradient does not even totally obscure an image/object at one end of the gradient.

   It shouldn't be the case that you then have further reduce the opacity of the gradient colours to achieve a standard gradient effect.

   Make sure you use RGB black instead of Grayscale black in your gradients when making opacity mask in a RGB-based document to avoid shallow blacks and not fading to a complete zero.

   More on that in the comments.

   If you happen to have the same problem, please still add a vote to the request, to track statistics.

3. Live shapes loose their controls in Transform panel once they become a part of a compound shape

   If I have a Rectangle shape and then subtract it from another path with Alt held (to make a live compound shape), I loose ability to change the width and height and rotation of this rectangle.
   That is if I select it with the Direct/Group Selection tool — Transform panel does not show Rectangle Properties section, and Properties panel does not show anything from Transform at all — it has a no selection set of buttons.

   This is crucial because the rectangle I subtract is rotated, and simply editing width and height distorts it.
   Isolation mode does not help.

   A workaround is to release the compound shape each time I need to edit width and height and build it again.
   Another way is to use Dynamic Shapes plugin from AstuteGraphics, which remembers the live state of the path even as a part of a compound shape.

4. Coordinates label rendering problem in Overprint Preview mode

   1. Open the file and make sure Overprint Preview mode is on (thus GPU is off)
   2. Pick Direct Selection tool, grab the point and move it The gray label with current coordinates get smeared, like the GIF shows.

5. Drag and drop to place file sometimes embeds instead of linking

   When I drag and drop a JPG/PNG/PDF/AI file from Finder into an Illustrator document, it normally drops in as a link. However, sometimes it unexpectedly embeds the artwork instead of linking it. If I try again repeatedly, it continues to embed, so to fix it I have to go to File > Place and ensure that "Link" is selected (which it already is). After that, if I drag-and-drop from Finder again, it links the artwork as expected.

   This issue is seemingly random and I can't figure out exactly how to reproduce it. I always link files (not embed them) when I place them via File > Place or via drag-and-drop, so I don't know why it sometimes decides to embed.

6. Select all in an isolated group selects and allows to move locked and hidden objects

   Imagine a group. Let's isolate it and hide one object, lock another, and leave the third one as it is. Ctrl+A to select all and then move the selection. Illustrator then moves all the objects, despite it does not behave like this on canvas.

   If you check layers, you’ll see that Illustrator targets all children (double circle markers) but not a parent (the recent fix), and selects all objects including the parent (big square markers).

   If you try to move the selection, all objects get moved.

   This is not what happens if we try to select objects on canvas, locked and hidden objects are ignored. Polls about expectations with further private questionings I made tell that some users are aware of it, and they are mostly power users that discovered it long ago, but most users expect locked/hide objects to stay in place — approximately 2 to 1.

   There is another case that has a similar behaviour — artboards you can move and have objects on them moved as well, despite them being locked or hidden, and there is an option to toggle that — 'Move Locked and Hidden Artwork with Artboard' in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display. We can target/select the isolated group and get a proper selection, but Ctrl+A still select everything, like the attached images shows.

   Treat groups as a box: we open it (= isolate) and want to deal with things with it. Yep, we can move the opened box, but this is not the reason we open it, right?

   Imagine a group. Let's isolate it and hide one object, lock another, and leave the third one as it is. Ctrl+A to select all and then move the selection. Illustrator then moves all the objects, despite it does not behave like this on canvas.

7. Bug: MacOS window dots are not showing up in the upper left corner

   The red, yellow, green window dots are not showing up in the upper left hand corner of the homescreen and are instead stuck between learn and files on the left hand nav.

8. Issue rendering some gradients

   If you change the the extension to .pdf, the gradient is no longer rendered. Rendering the .ai in other pdf interpreters also do not render the gradient.

9. Export for Screens: ImageType PNG - is not recorded as an action

   When i export for screens and select png as export type with a fixed width of 5906 px in my case, then this action is simply not recorded.
   Other image types are recorded (like jpg or svg).

10. Colour Variation when using "Darken" transparency

    Why am I getting a colour variation on screen when using the "Darken" mode in the transparency field.
    See attached illustrator Pdf.
    The "Substrate" spot colour has the "Darken" applied which is layered on top of the colour wedges.
    Should the colours of the wedges not display the same irrespective of whether "Overprint Preview" is on or off?

11. The name "Black" is automatically blocked when creating global swatches

    If you create a new global color swatch, regardless of the breakdown, the name "Black" is automatically blocked. The name "White" is not.

    It seems silly to call this issue out, but I've prepared logo libraries for eight and a half years now, and this has been an ongoing consideration. When I create a black swatch, there is always an extra step. Sometimes I intentionally misspell the name to create the swatch, or I create a non-global swatch with the correct name, but in both scenarios I have to adjust the swatch AFTER it is created to produce a black global swatch with the name "Black." The same extra step is not required for a white global swatch with the name "White."

    A comparison of my workflow below—

    Black Global Swatch:
    1. Remove all swatches from the file
    2. In the Color palette, click the 'Black' color shortcut
    3. In the Swatches palette, either click the 'New Swatch' shortcut at the bottom or select "New Swatch..." from the menu
    4. In the New Swatch dialog box, change the default name (depending on color mode, either "R=0 G=0 B=0" or "C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100") to "Black"
    5. Check the 'Global' checkbox
    6. Select "OK"
    7. No swatch appears in the Swatches palette

    White Global Swatch:
    1. Remove all swatches from the file
    2. In the Color palette, click the 'White' color shortcut
    3. In the Swatches palette, either click the 'New Swatch' shortcut at the bottom or select "New Swatch..." from the menu
    4. In the New Swatch dialog box, change the default name (depending on color mode, either "R=255 G=255 B=255" or "C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=0") to "White"
    5. Check the 'Global' checkbox
    6. Select "OK"
    7. A "White" global swatch appears in the Swatches palette

    ワークスペースが消えた。
    ウィンドウ＞ワークスペース＞初期設定やリセットしても何も開かない

    一応
    ウィンドウ＞
    で必要なパネルにチェックを入れると開くが
    ひとつづつチェックを入れて手動でで並べないといけないので
    不便です

14. Rotate polygon with 3 sides (triangle)

    (A) If I create a polygon with only 3 sides (triangle), then it has a centre that corresponds to a circle around the triangle.
    (B) If I rotate the triangle by 90° with the Rotate tool, the centre of the circumcircle is used. That is correct.

    (C) If I rotate the same triangle by 90° with the menu command "Object > Transform > Rotate", then suddenly the centre of the bounding box is used as the centre of rotation. This is wrong in my eyes. Also, this new centre point remains.

15. Playing Save for Web operation from action produces different result than a direct operation

    1. Rename the .txt file to .aia
    2. Load this file as a set into Actions panel
    3. Open the .ai document (make sure that linked .tif file is loaded)
    4. Export the file using Save For Web command. Set size to 200% and save the result as 1.jpg
    5. Run the 'Test' action form the loaded set. Save the image as 2.jpg

    Compare both files. 2.jpg is looking more red than 1.jpg
    No profiles attached to JPGs.

    1. Run the action again
    2. While the S4W dialog is open, go to Optimize menu (hamburger button in top right corner) and disable 'Convert to sRGB' option

    The generated result gets less red (toggle it back and forth to see the difference).

    1. Cancel the dialog and run S4W command directly again
    2. Toggle the same option again

    No difference happen with the red tint, the image stays the same.

    It feels like some double conversion happens.
    Yes, S4W is legacy, but this is how you called it. It is widely used still. This needs to be fixed.

16. Round Corners prevent a narrow bar from transforming

    Please open the file attached.
    Make sure that you have Bounding Box on, and Scale Corners off.

    1. Select any one of the green bars.
    2. Try to make it shorter or longer, using bounding box (that is grab the center marker on the a short side) — works fine.
    3. Select the dark red long bar.
    4. Try to transform in the same manner — and fail. The bar gets only longer, and can't be made shorter (or shorter back).
    5. Make the red bar slightly wider or select the orange bar, it is a wider copy of the red one.
    6. Try to make it shorter. You succeed at first.. But then it bumps into something and refuse to become any shorter.
    7. Make it as short as possible, release the mouse and try to make it shorter again — and get the same behavior as in step 6!

    Now enable scale corners and try to shorten bars again — now it works fine
    (but corners get smaller, which is not what is wanted in the first place).

17. Path effects applied to a compound shape result a doubled stroke on expansion

    1. Draw two overlapping shapes
    2. Remove fill and stroke for both of them
    3. Hold Alt and press Unite shape mode button in Pathfinder to create a live compound shape
    4. Apply Offset Path effect (or any other path deforming effect, like Roughen or ZigZag)
    5. Expand appearance of the object Result: two copies of the same stroked object Expected: one copy of the stroke object

18. Export for Screens not updating Artboard titles

    I've been copy/pasting my artboards and renaming them to save time.

    I've noticed though that Export for Screens doesn't always update the artboard name, despite the artboard name being changed.

    I've seen this bug a few times now.

19. Data merge doesnt allow data field names that start with a number

    Variables panel > Data merge doesnt allow data field names that start with a number and the help site doesnt say this is an issue.

    Please update the website to explain data field names can't start with a number.

    Illustrator est moins stable que la version précédente alors que des bugs sont censés être corrigés !
    Et le "conseil" pour éviter le plantage est complétement inadapté puisque nous n'utilisons pas le logiciel cité.
