  1. Is there an option to set single keys and function keys as hotkeys?

Is there an option to set single keys and function keys as hotkeys?

I'm used to another vector drawing program in conjunction with Illustrator and that program has some very easy to use hotkeys that are essential for shape alignments, like C for horizontal centering, E for vertical centering, B for bottom of a shape and T for top, etc. On Illustrator I can't set a single keyboard key as a hotkey for the alignment functions without the use of Ctrl or Shift before the key. That's just a no go for me.

    And since I use…

  2. Brushes: anomalous effects

    Illustrator 2018 22.0.1

Steps taken: Applying a pattern brush to a stroke, and adding an extra stroke around that in the appearance panel.

Expected result: The stroke should only apply to the visible outline of the brush (see image), and no weird visual anomalies.

Actual result: The stroke applies to both the brush as expected, but also to the original path (which should be invisible). There are also some anomalous gaps between the component parts of the brush, which should not be there.

Furthermore, if you expand the brush you get a group containing the brush sub-paths (totally fine),…

  3. stroke eye dropper dedicated tool with a simple (shift-alt) brush tool modifier.

In Illustrator when i am working with my drawing tablet , tracing an image, i wanted to quickly change the color of the brush stroke with an eye dropper to click on a background tracing image, then have the tool elegantly switch back to the brush with out having to click on the "tool menu" or the "swatch swapping foreground back ground" button. i became frustrated that this process felt clunky and un-intuitive in the current implementation.

  4. Editable path smoothing for pencil and brush paths

I'm proposing smoothing that may be applied or removed after a path has been created with the pencil or brush tool by the user. When a path is being created, the program would capture necessary coordinate information and the path would be represented on screen as drawn, or with a certain amount of smoothing (set prior to drawing in tool panel). If the user wanted more or less smoothing applied after creating the path, the amount could be adjusted by selecting the path and changing the amount applied. If the path would no longer need adjusting, it could…

  5. Make raster brushes in Ai work as brushes in Photoshop and Affinity Designer do

I think you should change the brush type and make it as same as the Photoshop, as the brush of Photoshop is much convinient.
Like we can use a soft brush or we can lower the opacity of the brush easily and same with the eraser tool.
Now, Photoshop is raster based software whereas Illustrator is a vector based which is the positive point a for Illustrator.
File made in Illustrator is much more useful and file made in Photoshop is much more on the attractive side.
So we need Illustrator to be easy and convenient to use.
    Or else…

  6. Assign shortcuts to custom scripts and allow actions to run custom scripts

    Hello!

It would be great to be able to assign a keyboard shortcut to a custom script. We use custom scripts in AI for a large variety of tasks at my job and we currently have to use a third party program on Mac (Quicksilver) in order to "assign" a shortcut to run them. This causes the scripts to run a bit slower and requires more development and support.

Additionally, it would be helpful to run custom scripts as a step within an action. This is currently possible to setup, but the action will "forget" the script the next time…

  8. Allow multiple elements in a scatter / pattern brushes

For example, you could make a brush that draws a random letter or number every pass, instead of being locked to a single element

  9. Rotate with arrow keys. Hold R to turn nudge in to rotate.

I love being able to nudge the selected object with the arrow keys, I want a modifyer key that allows rotation in the same way. example: R key + arrow key rotates. Left and right arrows might be one degree increments. Up/ down could be 15 degree - which quickly gets people to the super common angles 30, 45, 60

  10. More vector brushes

Have more brushes! (like a tapered brush), allow to add, export, and make custom brushes.
Easily delete overlapping lines like in CSP.
Include patterns like half tones for comics we can drag and drop inside shapes.
Allow gradients and patterns to be applied to the stroke.
We can choose which part of the stroke to change the width instead of all of it.
Have an option to do an even width change or freehand.
Be able to fill color within the visible strokes/lines instead of shapes.

  11. Remove extra boxes get generated when a scatter brush is expanded

When I outlined the stroke of a scatter brush it adds a box around the shape, not useful at all. Should be the way it was before, now I have to delete all the little boxes to change the colour

  12. Use arrow keys to kern letterforms

I would like to use arrow keys to visually kern letterforms, instead of having to enter numerical values = what you can do now only if you outline type. Thanks, Barry

  13. Could the Width Tool scale Pattern Brush tiles proportionately instead of squeezing them down distortingly?

    Greetings!

I'm not sure, if this feature is already there (would be grateful for a response if it already is!). I googled, didn't find anything. It's also too many keywords...

So. The width tool can varyingly alter the width of a stroke to which a pattern brush is applied to. What I have been struggling with, is that, the width tool only squeezes the pattern tiles perpendicular to the spine of the stroke, and thus distorting the proportions and original composition of the pattern tile itself.

Is there a way to perhaps, distort the tiles in a manner that they…

  14. Guided tracing brush (Snap to trace), similar to Photoshop’s Content aware image trace

The automatic full image tracing in illustrator often does not create useful results. The set of lines is too busy or doesn't line up with where a human would consider the edges to be.

As an alternative, a brush tool tool that snaps the lines to the underlying image layers would be more helpful. Human input shows the general location of a line, and illustrator can then snap the line to the nearest set of pixels that appears to be an edge, helping make smooth an accurate traces without excess lines.

While it would be a slower process, the creative…

Beta 30.0.0.21 introduces Font Libraries ('collections'). These are synced with your CC Libraries, but you can create these directly from the font browser. Share, rename, filter and customize these to better access your fonts, local or added ones.

Please try it and share you impressions — this means a lot for the team and will help to guide the development further.

  16. Art brushes different weight value

    Well, this is complex one.

As you know, a lot of people live in metric world.
It means they use 'cm-mm' instead of 'inches-points'.
I, for example, have all three major units set to millimeters — general, stroke and type.

But each time I apply brush to anything, it gets weight '0,353 mm'.
Yes, it is 1 point. And every time I need to scale my brush twice as normal, I have to type in '*2' in the end of 'Weight' field instead of just typing 2.

Worse, when I don't remember what weight it has now, but need to…

  17. Create folders for brushes

Can we get the ability to create folders for brushes?

I would like to be able to group my brushes by length, width, style, color, etc. As it is now, I have to wait for the tooltip to show up before I know whether my brush is a medium, short, long stroke...

  20. Please allow us to assign F# keys to Tools

I can assign the Function Keys to Panels, but not Tools in Illustrator, but I can in InDesign. I'm tired of accidentally typing a "v" when I want the Selection Tool in Illustrator. With InDesign, I've assigned the F1 key to the Selection Tool to avoid this, but I can't in Illustrator...why? Please allow!
