Modal panels for Free Transform tool, Dimension tool, Smooth, and Recolor pseudo-panel get hidden under other floating panels
Free Transform Tool and Dimension Tool have several modes presented in small floating modal panels and appear only when the tool is picked.
However, their z-order makes them hide under other floating panels, making it hard to find these pseudo-panels if a user choose to have real panels floating in the spot.
It’s easy to locate them by hitting Tab, since they doesn’t get hidden like actual panels and toolbars, but you have to know the trick.
I think their order should be above and not below.

Illustrator window moves behind all other windows when you reposition the frame
When selecting a window in Illustrator it immediately falls to the background as I move it around. VERY obnoxious.. this is also happening in Photoshop.
Mac Studio, 64gb, Ventura 13.2.1, latest version of AI and PSD.

Scale Strokes & Effects checkmark in Transform panel is disabled when nothing is selected
Illustrator has many ways to reach certain values, options and functions: through menus, panels, preferences, etc. Accessibility options are fine most of the times, and we are all used to this approach (sometimes it becomes ridiculous, like with many ways to access Transform).
But there are some toggles which are hard to control.
'Scale Strokes and Effects' can be accessed in Preferences (as a global option), in the Scale dialog (as a local option), and in Transform panel (as some kind of contextual option)...No. I lied, but in a way I once was fooled by Ai. These are the…

Tool buttons appear as copies in other toolbars
Ai display a copy of the currently selected tool in each custom tool panel a user have. This is distracting, eats up space, and serves no practical purposes.
Yes, I kind of understand the logic behind this... 'what if a user does not have the currently picked tool in any panel now displayed? how can they know what tool is no active?' — but why EVERY panel? Choose one. Or let the user to choose one.
You are allowing to create toolboxes with no fill/selector stroke, without Draw modes even (Normal/Behind/Inside) — something a user can’t get anywhere else if…

Font Height Options Tab order is broken
In Character panel, when you choose an option to display Font Height Options, hitting Tab to focus works wrong.
Click Font Family field to focus it and press Tab to focus the next one, Font Style. It works fine, nut the next press moves the focus to the Font Size field, skipping Font Height Reference field!
So it means we can’t access this field at all using a keyboard.11 votes -
Artboard tooltip cannot be dismissed
When I double click on an Artboard to open its properties, I receive a blue tooltip "Shift-click to select multiple artboards. Alternatively, Shift-drag to draw a marquee...". However, I am unable to dismiss this tooltip because the Artboard Options dialog is open, and that is at the highest z-index, and I cannot interact with any other interface unless I dismiss this dialog.

Holding Shift (or Ctrl) to move RGB sliders together in Color panel doesn’t work when color is white
A Help article on Color panel states we can hold Shift (also works for Ctrl, although unspecified there) to move color channels’ sliders 'in tandem', together, — http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/default-keyboard-shortcuts.html#keys_for_the_color_panel
This indeed works, in both RGB and CMYK modes (not in HSB, since its values won’t benefit from it).
However, if all three RGB sliders are at 255/100% (white), this mode doesn’t work — please see the GIF attached.
It probably makes sense for CMYK, where it’s not clear if 0-0-0-0 should become something like 24-24-24-24, but it totally makes sense for RGB, where we expect to get a gray color.
Thanks…

Transparency panel shows 0% for the mixed opacity values
When having a selection of art with mixed opacity values, Transparency panel should display blank, as Illustrator does for color values or stroke weights, but instead it lies they all have 0%.
Take a look at the GIF attached.

MacOS Big Sur rendering bug.
Hi!
I am an apple developer and I installed Big Sur beta (now on version 3) for work. I run into a problem with Illustrator that other people are not seeing. If I open one file everything is OK. When opening two or more files, I get a really nasty visual problem, with Illustror only. See file attached. Is anybody else having this problem, is there a way to fix it? I reinstalled Illustrator and it keeps happening.10 votesThis issue is resolved in Big Sur (macOS 11) public release

Scale Tool dialog shows random values when real-time drawings is enabled
To recreate is problem: First enable Real-time drawing. Then draw a box. With the Scale Tool window open, uniform scale the box 400%. Duplicate that box by holding down OPTION key while click and dragging the box. Click on the second box and open the Scale Tool window: when I do this I no longer see 400% in the scale percentage, instead I find completely random numbers and sometimes it selects non-uniform. This gets annoying after a while.

The keyboard stops to work
The keyboard stops to work with no reason apparent. I have to restart the app to fix it (for a while).

Illustrator splash stays always on top
This really goes for any Adobe program but the programs always pop to the top of all of my windows which drives me crazy. I hate when I'm trying to multi-task only to have the Progress window pop up in the middle of my view. Or worse when the program Window itself jumps to the front. I use this software in a professional setting so I'm always working on something else when my files are loading. Please stop forcing the program and progress bars to the front of all open windows.

Zoom - Scroll Wheel
In Illustrator CC the program seems hardwired to not listen to the tablet settings about scroll wheel zoom or even touch pad zoom. There are lots of people online complaining about this and trying to find work arounds.
I suggest just creating a hard wired button like photoshop did to fix this issue.
This wasn't an issue with Illustrator CS4, so I'm not sure what changed.10 votesPlease accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience. [Illustrator 2025, 29.0][Win11 Pro 23H2] No Recent Local Files in the Welcome Screen
Recent local files and their previews are completely gone from the welcome screen in Illustrator 2025, 29.0.
Changing the number of visible recent files, restarting the computer, disabling/enabling GPU acceleration and even doing a clean install of Illustrator didn't help.
9 votesAs stated in an update at forums, there is a solution.
A backend fix has been applied. Please restart Illustrator to see if the issue is resolved.
If it persists, follow these steps:
1. Close all Adobe apps, including the Creative Cloud desktop app.
2. Navigate to the following folder location:
Mac: ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/CCX Welcome folder
Windows: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CCX Welcome\
3. Locate the folder named CCX Welcome and rename it to CCX Welcome.old.
4. Relaunch the Creative Cloud desktop app, then reopen Illustrator.
Leave a comment if this resolves the issue or not.

Context Task Bar flickers when panning with a scroll, using mouse or touchpad
CTB hides itself when we pan.
It looks more or less tolerable when we hold Spacebar to pan, or hold a mouse wheel ('why should someone has access to the panel while scrolling'), but it looks HORRIBLE when scrolling with a wheel or using a touchpad. The panel flickers each tick, making it painful to look at.
Some say it happens for them only with Show Grid enabled, but for me it just happens all the time. Either way, CTB should be smart enough to skip the state update for this type of panning.

Illustrator does not omit spaces in values in inputs, unlike in InDesign
Just like it is demonstrated in this post: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnv5bcuIOrt/
Unlike in InDesign, where we can accidentally make this:
'21 |mm' → '21 0|mm' and get '210 mm' as a result, in Illustrator it goes liek this instead:
'21 |mm' → '21 0|mm' → '21 mm'
It just doesn’t understand what an aiming mistake is. Makes little sense, since it can’t be anything but that, so no punishment, please.9 votes -
When a plugin is removed, the toolbar which had its tool gets completely empty
If for some reason I get a plugin removed form the Plugins folder, Ai wipes the entire tool panel which had the tool associated with the removed plugin.
Even worse — when a plugin is returned back to the folder, Ai won’t restore the panel! It stays completely broken and empty. Each next launch Ai seemingly restores it, but the next launch it’s empty again. Resaving the panel does not help.
So you have to rely on backups — manual backups, because, again, Ai fails at properly backing up these automatically.

Preferences dialog window opens small, tiny, shrunk, and I can't access any settings
Problem with Preference panel in Illustrator since the last update of the app.
A person from Adobe helped me yesterday by removing all the caches and preferences from illustrator, it worked right after but today it's happening again.9 votes
