1. Larger preview images in .ai files

   When an .ai file is saved, an image of all the active artboards is saved in the file. The OS (Mac or PC) uses this to provide a PREVIEW of the contents of the .ai file.

   (a) This preview is terribly small, and displays as a small thumbnail instead of a useful image of the file contents. It appears to be a tiny bitmap, but it's so small it doesn't do much good at revealing what's in the file.

   (b) The preview also displays everything visible on the pasteboard, including graphics that is not on any artboard. Since the preview image is a fixed size (tiny bitmap?) This often results in the contents of the active artboard being so small that it's barely recognizable.

   Please allow us to specify (like InDesign) the size of the preview. Better yet, build an SVG for previewing JUST the active artboard at the time the file is saved.

   It is very important for users to be able to preview the content of an .ai file before loading AI itself and actually opening the file. The preview exposed to the OS should be large and (optionally) contain just the last active artboard.

2. Regression: Illustrator CC saves each instance of symbol in .ai file separately

   How to reproduce this problem in Illustrator СС:

   1. Create clean AI file with A4 page.

   2. Place any pixel image (with size ~10 mb) embedded to this page. Save file, it will have size about ~10 mb)

   3. Make this image as symbol and remove object from page.

   4. Place symbol to page one time.

   5. Save file. File size will be, eg, ~10 mb.

   6. Now place same symbol to page more 4 times, total will be 5 images on page.

   7. Save file and check size - it will be increased to ~50 mb.

   As result, you will have ai file, containing only 5 copies of one image, with ~50 mb size instead of ~10 mb!

   Same steps on Illustrator CS6 works well - file size will not be increased at 5x times. So seems there is regression.

   How to reproduce this problem in Illustrator СС:

   1. Create clean AI file with A4 page.

   2. Place any pixel image (with size ~10 mb) embedded to this page. Save file, it will have size about ~10 mb)

3. Group all Gen ai features into one menu

   With the advent of more and more Gen AI features I highly wish that there is a dedicated Gen AI menu item in the object menu where all those features can be found.
   And this can and should be redundant as the Pattern fill can be with the Pattern Command (and others where they are already) but they should also be found in this new Gen AI Menu to have everything AI related in one place. No guessing just a single place to look for these features and there will be more obviously.

4. Save the .ai file and only after finishing the .pdf

   As done in CC 2019, I can save the .ai and only after finish it I can save a .pdf
   Now with AI 24.2.2 I save the .ai and immediatly the .pdf but the .ai file is not saved. So the .ai and .pdf are not the same. This can cause a lot of problem becasue is I start work to AI file I'm not in last version and if I start on .pdf in low resolution I lose some elements, and reduce the quality to raster.
   Please, do as CC 2019 that Illustrator block user before .pdf save.
   I hope I have been of help and that my request will be taken care of.

5. Add dividers/separators to custom tools panel (or enable stacking/docking them vertically)

   It would be nice to be able to visually separate tool groups in custom toolbars since there is no way to stack them vertically. Think "groups" in Microsoft Office apps' "ribbon". We can currently only...

   A) Mash all of our tools into one toolbar, with no means of visual organization apart from the order in which they appear (I don't count stacking the tools as "visual organization", since I cannot see them).

   B) Snap multiple toolbars together, but not while docked to edge of UI. They will not be movable together like this, and other UI elements can overlap them. Far from ideal.

   C) Dock the toolbars together horizontally. This is a massively inefficient use of screen space.

   P.S.: This is more of a peeve than anything, why do toolbars occupy all vertical space even when there are no tools there? We're going back to smaller screens now, with touch interfaces, so being able to utilize screen real estate is crucial.

   Actually, someone submitted a request for this already titled "Unable to Resize Tool Panels (verticle axis)". It started to receive votes and the mods (groan) closed it since it was worded sort of like a bug report, and mistaken for one. Sorry, but this is why you don't outsource your online presence to non-native-English-speakers. It makes you a punchline.:

6. Ai File icon turned upside down

   Hi. I have updated the ai to version cc 2018 and all the icons of my files in ai format turned upside down. It makes me feel annoyed even it does not hinder me from opening and working on the files. May i know how this can be fixed?

7. Non-uniform scale tool by angle

   Using available AI tools I have to twist and dance to perform non-uniform scale by angle.

   Right now I have to do this:
   1. Rotate path to make in straight oriented (it's not an default ellipse, it's manually traced path)
   2. Reset bounding box
   3. Rotate path backwards
   4. Turn on bounding box (I work with it turned off)
   5. Scale using bounding box at angle

   If I use Scale tool instead, and set point to a center,
   AI will scale path uniformly ONLY.
   What a stupidity is this? I even remember custom plugin tool that allowed desired action, but it doesn't work for a long time.

8. Make Pen and Scissors tools prioritize editing to a selected path

   Am I missing something? can the pen and scissors tool prioritize editing to the selected path? If I'm editing a path behind another path it is often a complete guessing game when I'm trying to edit a selected path if it is anywhere near the top path.
   I just don't understand why anybody would find it useful that a selected path would be ignored for another overlapping path when using the pen or scissors tools

9. Remove restrictions to useable keyboard shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl + Key for non-tools)

   It would be great if the restrictions put in place for keyboard shortcuts regarding non-tools could be changed to include single key shortcuts (like tools). There is no valid reason that any of the File/ Edit/ Object/ Type/ Select/ Effect/ View/ Window shortcuts require using the Ctrl key. Indesign does this already just like many non-Adobe programs. It's time to change this.

10. Separating Swatches/Color for Objects and Tools?

    Insanely enough that Illustrator still not able to distinct in betweet color swatches for selected objects/paths and swatches for tools (Brushes, Live Paint, Paint Bucket, etc.) are you nuts guys?

11. Pencil and Brush Tools 'Pulled String' Smoothing / Stabilization

    I've been using Illustrator for a long time now and one of the things that have bugged me over the years is the fact that there's no brush stroke stabilization like the Pulled String Mode in Photoshop or the Rope Brush in Affinity Designer. Ai has evolved so much over the years and it's been used to create freehand vector art since day one, so I cannot understand why this function hasn't been developed yet as of 2024.

    Path Smooth or Fidelity are definitely two options to smooth out lines, but that's done once the path has been created. Stabilization, on the contrary, can give you very smooth lines while you're drawing them and with live feedback. I understand there's a plugin out there called DynamicSketch, but I would like to have this feature integrated directly into Illustrator instead of having to look for it elsewhere.

    I must say that I'm beyond impressed at how fluid and accurate the Rope Brush in Affinity Designer is, but unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about Photoshop's Pulled String Mode. Will we see this feature in Ai soon? I hope so.

12. Import AI smart objects as vectors

    If you have a smart object that is a vector (say an .ai file) for use in Photoshop, if you later export the PSD file back to AI, all the smart objects get rasterized including vector smart objects. It would be better if they are converted back to vector (except maybe in situations where they have effects or masks).

13. Treat all objects as filled for selection tools (like in Corel Draw)

    Corel Draw has an option, 'Treat all objects as filled', which allows select objects with no fills with just a click inside. While it’s 'not the Ai way' — this can be useful in some cases.
    Just make sure it works properly in the Outline view( that is does not get applied at all).

14. I would like to see the output of the subject created by the generated AI with each part layered by part.

    I would like the subject created by the generated AI to be output with parts divided into layers by part (right eye) (left eye) (outline) (eyebrows), etc.
    This is because I want the puppet to move immediately in Adobe Character Animatror.

15. Allow to filter files in Recent menu/section to include only AI documents and exclude chosen formats like PDF, JPEG, TIFF, Save a Copy, etc.

    RECENT FILES SHOULD IDEALLY BE ONLY AI DOCUMENTS.

    If I have exported say 10 jpgs in my previous session, on start-up my RECENT FILES is over-run with those JPG file names. They all have the same thumbnail too. That's outrageous!

16. Save to older version of EPS or AI

    CS6 does not appear to allow the user to save to older versions of EPS or AI. Many vendors and designers are still using older versions, and the inability to save to older versions is creating a lot of problems.

    It should be possible to do so through File > Save As… then select the Format as .ai or .eps, then click Save. In the next dialog select the desired version from CC to Ai3.

17. Gen AI Assisted Live Trace

    So far, Gen AI in illustrator is just a fresh coat of paint on live trace, a raster query and then just live trace.

    Where it would help immensely, is if you could direct AI to clean up live trace results.

    My use case is I'm doing a lofi photo trace, of a contrasted, shaded image, white over red. By default, the edges of the white area are noisy and Illustrator adds several shades for this area. What I'd like to be able to do is prompt AI to "simplify white edges" or "trace behind white areas", to enhance the quality of the live trace.

    The work around, is that I have to take my source image, create a mask of the white area and expand the shaded fill white area. From here I have to do 3 separate live traces to obtain appropriate results.

    So far, Gen AI in illustrator is just a fresh coat of paint on live trace, a raster query and then just live trace.

18. Cmd + H should hide Illustrator on Mac

    Yes, CMD-H should be standardized across all of your programs. And kindly take Freehand out of its vault, study its pen/curve tool(s), and make Illustrator's pen tool work as well as Freehand's did.

19. Let the Recolor / Generative Recolor work in the Swatches Palette

    Please let those tools works on Groups of Swatches too.
    This comes in handy to make sets of colours with e.g. the same Hue, but a different Saturation.

20. Allow strokes in brush and pencil tools to be shown in real time while drawing

    When you draw lines with freehand tools (pencil/brush), the stroke doesn't show up until after you finish it and release. It just shows as a thin blue line. It doesn't account for thickness so I end up having to redo lines because I can't see what they look line until I finish drawing each line.

    The latest Beta build 28.7.0.17 now offers live preview for paths drawn with Pencil tool. Please install or update to this version, try it yourself, and share your feedback.

    You can always disable this behavior by toggling Live Feedback option in the Pencil Tool Options dialog.

    The team aims to offer a similar feature for Brush tool, if this one works properly.
